dspender Posted August 18, 2003 Posted August 18, 2003 I want to build a Cozy MKIV. Does anyone have any experience in getting the fuselage with wing roots (11 feet wide I understand) out of a garage with 9 foot wide, 8 foot tall doors? The hypotenuese of this door is 12 feet (9 squared plus 8 squared equals 145 and the square root of that is 12) and so I believe the fuselage without wings should fit through the opening. Do you agree? Dennis Quote
Rui Posted August 18, 2003 Posted August 18, 2003 I don't have experience with it, but you have to remember that the main spar is a box shape which will have to be accounted for. I forget the dimensions, but it seems to me that 12' will be awfully close. Maybe try making up a dummy spar of the same dimensions out of scrap wood and then try it out. But then remember that it will be 600-700 lbs that you will be moving.... Quote Rui Lopes Cozy MkIV S/N: 1121
Dave Clifford Posted August 18, 2003 Posted August 18, 2003 Yes it will fit through with some wiggling. Its been done before. Quote Dave Clifford "The Metal Man" Musketeer Vise grip hands and Micrometer eyes!! Cozy MKIV Plans #656
John Slade Posted August 18, 2003 Posted August 18, 2003 Yes, I think it'll fit ok. The spar / strake is about 12 inches thick at the ends. By the time you're done you'll probably be quite good it getting it in and out. You'll be flipping the bird at least once to work on the underside.
