  1. Have you joined this group?  https://dragonflylist.groups.io/

I'm sure there are other builders/flyers in AZ.

I think there will be a project relocating to AZ soon.

Regarding the Mk1 or Mk2 question, are there sockets in the bottom surface of the wing?  Does the wing have the standard amount of anhedral?

Answering these should answer Mk1 vs. Mk2, but you can make it anything you want. Hoop gear is also an option.

  2. Very nice work!

Tell me about the need for two "helicopter skids".  Especially if you create a rotisserie through the main spine.

Seems to me that one strong back or, "heli skid" could come directly down from the bottom of the formers which would allow for more/easier planking.

One of the most effective ways to maintain parallelism between formers would be equal length "sticks" (20mm x 20mm x ? pine) screwed between formers near the outer edges.

  3. Nice work!

    What program are you using?

What tool/feature are you using to assure that the planks come from flat stock with 3/8-1/2" thickness?

After examining a set of factory shells, it seems like the majority of each shell (4 shells total) was made from a single continuous sheet of foam which has many relief cuts to allow for wrapping, warping, and bending as it was pushed down into the female mold. Not sure if this strategy would be easier that what you have planned, but from the CAD and printing templates perspective, they both seem nearly equal.

  4. Hello Gary,

There has to be 5 threads on this question, this year alone.

Be patient and Jon will get the download link to you.

I thought there was supposed to be a download button on the webpage when your payment was confirmed or in the confirmation email. Go back and look thoroughly at those. Otherwise send Jon a message and he will get a link to you.

  5. All of this info and more, including the people who post it and understand it are here:

I think I remember that it's between 15# and 20# on the tailwheel, loaded for flight, with the fuselage level.

Very purposefully, this number will change very little with high or low fuel and passenger or no passenger.

The well documented engine mounts for the various engines take care of the different engine's Cs-of-G. I've seen/heard of Jabirus needing 12" longer cowls because the engine had to get pushed soo far forward. Makes for a very different looking machine in my opinion.

  6. These starters are currently (and have been for a while) used heavily in the automotive restoration (upgrade) and racing community.  I'm guessing there are several companies making the same models/configurations.

Just need to confirm pinion specs and rotation direction.

You and James Bond can share starters if need be.  😁

Given the above, I think you did the right thing.

Next time you find something you like, take an expert along. It will be worth it in the short and long run.

  8. Logic based around words/phrases such as, "rare and expensive", "don't believe", and "lower", seems problematic.  (would not pass a design review at my engineering company)

Don't "assume" for aviation or explosives.

However, tens of thousands of trouble free flight hour from engine configuration X should be a strong argument.
