So, why is there such a disparity between fp cruise and cs cruise. Sounds like my choices are cheap cruise at about 190-200 kts(cs) or 210-220(fp) -Guy

Ok guys, I love you all, really, in a very Christian sort of way, not a funny way. And I'm sure I would be assisting in all of your builds if you all lived on my block. Alas this is not the case. So, back to the topic. What I have learned so far. 1. Bagging is totally un-necessary. It might save 10-30 lbs but is not worth the cost. I've already lost 12lbs off my fat ass-more to go-much cheaper to boot. (already taken to heart-any one wanna cut my feet off now? 6'-1" to 5'-9" better fit) Lets move on to fuel tanks, am I maxxed out at 54 gallons or is there a way to build in more capacity? How about those observation windows- lower cabin to floor, you know like on a Jet Ranger. And before any one be-rates me to say how stupid I am- I just think it would be cool to see down/ with out seeing strakes. The Village Idiot/Nube- Guy

Maybe the obverse should be the case, and if you can't find the information you're looking for in archives, web searches, books or old threads here, then you can ask a question while pointing to the information that hasn't answered your question. Feel free to put me on your "ignore" list - I'm rapidly starting to not give a crap regarding helping people not to do stupid things. I truly am beginning (after 12 years) to have an understanding for why some EXTREMELY knowledgable folks just keep their mouths shut, rather than sharing their knowledge, to all of our detriments. I give up. Unfortunatley, actually fortunatley I don't spend that kind of time on the web that is why I started this thread- to get a comprehensive list of mods. It was never my intent to irritate. TMANN, Good point, I have already taken a couple of welding courses, I may even take some Aero eng. classes at the local U, since this has always been a passion. As far as bagging is concerned, my experience comes from modeling, and, my pops A&P work, both areas have been quite rewarding, and informative. This is where my enthusiasm for the vac comes from. If their are'nt enough benefits realized from bagging I"ll just build per early 80's technology. -Guy

So, Marc, I'm guessing you work or have worked for Scaled? So here are my quandries at this point. 1. I am comfortable with the bag, and will accept the expense of it for a reduction in sanding, even though I am quite adept at it. Comments on my rational please. 2. I fully expect to do some hand lay-ups, but, in your experience have you actually had two of the same part built and tested utilizing both methods? what are the differences/advantages/disadvantages? Most people think in terms of weight, but I'm more concerned with issues surrounding long term resistance to delam and minmizing surface irregularities, (reduction in trapped air, a plus) 3. How am I to determine the use of carbon in by build, both as a weight reducer/strengthener? (how much and where?) -Guy

Food for thought. Exactly what I had hoped for. You guy's have to remember that while I have read extensively, I have not been a memeber of the build/flying community, consequently I'm trying to learn as much as possible. That lack of assosiation has left me without access to other debates on the topic so if this thread seems repetative, by all means please add links to those other mods and debates. Now that is what I'm talking about. I have a great appreciation for what was started by Burt, but my view is it was just that-- a start. Burt has moved on with his carreer and I admire him for that. But I believe many have moved beyond a healthy respect to deafication. I'm hopeing this thread will be able to transcend all sacred cows. I also hope, eventually the community will be able to support mods with engineering. But for now I'm begging all subscribers to this thread- please don't judge, rather offer substance in your arguments for or against any mods, (with out disdain please) that are discussed. Guy

I'm in the prebuild process, and as such, I'm starting this thread to get the most complete list of mods possible. What are mods you builders installing, or planning to install? I'm hopeing to compile all suitable mods before hand, so I can make all necissary notes to my plans/manual. Here is a list to kick off the discussion. 1. landing gear 2. fuze width 3. canopy configurations 4. nose jobs 5. wing span vs canard span 6. fuel tank size 7. reinforcements to fuze floor/in conjunction w/widening 8. vac bagging alternative composites into the spar 9. vac bagging skins 10. observation ports in side to floor transition of fuze. 11. lengthening fuze-long legged folks 12. power I hope you all get the idea, all mods are up for discussion and debate, right now it's all hypothetical. My approach is such that once I start slinging epoxy I'll be locked in and won't be improvising on the fly. As my mod notes will be finalized and organized into the chapters as needed. I hope this thead will get some serious response from those of you already makin stink and dust. Thanx, Guy in Utah
