  1. General question, I would like to build or modify a varieze to operate it as an Italian Ultralight bachground: (In Italy UL basically have very few to no rules at all, MTOW 1000lbs (might be controlled) stall speed of max 35Kts (difficult to controll) you can't fly in controlled airspace and your max altitude is 1000ft, but you can land and start whereever you like, you do not need a radio and even better you can build and fly your UL without anybody wanting to see or check it). Now to my problem: how could I modify a varieze to stall lower (35Kts is not a must up to 45kts could be ok, nowone will check but the difference between 35 and 55 is evident even from the ground) would longer wings/ canard do the trick? or vortilons? consider that I would use anyway a rotax instead of the O-200 (40kg less) any ideas
  2. hello, a quick introduction: I am German live in Italy and wanted to build a canard since years. But since the family does not allow that much time and since I need to fly I bought a flying Long last year (build in 93 with 200h flying time), and I love it. I picked it up near Munic in germany and flew it home to Italy (Pescara, on the height of Rome on the adriatic coast) Ok I needed 2 attemts to land it the first time, but since then following the POH by the letter, landings have been easy (the runways are kind of smaller here in Europe, I managed to stop in 1200ft). Oh and I still can't help intercepting spam cans. Of course not having build myself I couldn't resist the modification urge (remade the panel, installed an EFIS and had the engine overhauled). Last week I did loose a cowling screw (guess who did check carefully enough:irked: ), which damaged the stainless steel leading edge protection and the repair would be close to a new Prop so the new one is on order. wolf.
