Hi Group,
the plans for my IBIS instrument panel have changed, which is why I put my King KLN90B panel mount GPS receiver up for sale.
This is your chance to get a TSO'd GPS receiver at considerably reduced costs, check it out:

Hi Group,
what kind of laminate schedule is used for constructing Eze wheel fairings?
cheers

Hi Group,
this is the Coffee House, right? So I guess I am allowed to squeeze something non-canardian in....
Last weekend I had the pleasure to be safety pilot for one of my brothers. He had purchased an experimental in the UK and his new baby needed to be ferried to The Netherlands...
I published a small write up on this aviation blog page.
Enjoy

Hey Zwack....wheres that sexy broom witch avatar that you used to sport? I was startin' to feel that Euro vibe...
If you can believe it that project sold for only 3500. bucks. What an apparent steal.
from afar, I would say that 'apparent' is the operative here...
Whatever... Yeah, wait for the RETURN OF THE BROOM in a forum near you...

Interesting to note is that the canard wing and retractable wheel mounts apparently are not part of the "structural parts", at least according to the product description......

@ Marc:
what you described is likely exactly what Moving Terrain did to create their new GPS-based backup EFIS:
http://www.moving-terrain.de/lang-en/produkte/module/mt-efis-kuenstlicher-horizont.html
Their statement that this device is not suitable for helicopters confirms that they need forward velocity to compute the derived values.
@ EmTeOh:
You're right about even DGPS signals having quite a bit of jitter in the signal, but modern adaptive digital filtering techniques can remove most if not almost all of that. I've done development work in exactly this area: removing noise from time series signals.
cheers

ah, thank you for pointing this out Marc.
I've seen other devices that rely on GPS data to be able to somehow derive a horizon-like device at all, now I understand why this is the case.
Thanks again!

There's that Silicon Valley company with a fruit in its name.... One of their latest offering obviously lets you run software that you can take with you in the blue wide yonder, check it out....

Obviously just a backup instrument, but still, I like the idea....

I hope to see one on your Ibis someday!..
Now that would be something !

H.
Havent gone to your website but I am just wondering why your avator is a witch on her broom flying around in her corset and knickers? Are guys with Ibis' into this kind of thing?...Or is there a pusher prop And a foldable canard on that broom we can't see?
Hi Edge,
no, IBIS flyers aren't into this sort of thing. If I remember correctly, this 'habit' was developed by pilots flying WWII bombers that originated west of the Atlantic Ocean...
If this is to your taste, you can find the complete picture I took some years back on: http://ibis.experimentals.de/aviationpicturegalleries/b53681498480cf36071.jpg The kinky lady was depicted on the rudder of a French registered Mignet HM-293 Flying Flea that was built by a fellow Dutchman.
I appreciate the artwork - so I use it here and there, and your questions prove it works...!

Hi Group,
on July 18, 2008, another IBIS made its maiden flight. This time it was Michel Dupuy (based in Tarbes, where the TBM-700 turboprops are produced) who took F-PXPY through its paces.
On the first three days Michel flew F-PXPY for almost three hours. Since then flying & testing proceeded swiftly, so that by now the initial restrictions should have been flown off.
cheers,

Hi Gang,
just a short notice that I have some progress to report about my IBIS main gear construction.
Check out: http://ibis.experimentals.de/progress/landinggear/landinggear.html
It's good to be back in the workshop!
cheers

yes, 6-th order Chebyshev filters are nice...
Input impedance is 50 Ohms, on both outputs the impedance is slightly higher (only 10% - caused by having to stick to standard value components), which causes only a minimal mismatch.
One more note: this diplexer is for two receivers only, DON'T think about putting a transmitter on one end.... Today I'm going to put a rev. 1.1 on my site with warnings to that extent.

Hi Group,
for my IBIS project I purchased a KN53 VOR/LOC/GS receiver. I didn't fancy installing two antennae (VOR/GS), so I need a device called a "diplexer".
I didn't like the idea of $helling out some $100+ for a diplexer either, as this would be as expensive as an antenna would have been.
That's why I rolled my own VOR/GS diplexer design. You can download the documentation on http://ibis.experimentals.de Just go to the download section and from there select 'documents' from the submenu. Scroll down the table of downloads and you'll find there.
Enjoy!

Hi Group,
if you call an Airpath C-2400 compass - or similar device - your own, you might be interested in printing out your own compass deviation cards.
I prepared a document to do just that, which can be downloaded from http://ibis.experimentals.de
Go to the download section, it's the bottom download under 'documents'.
Enjoy

Oh, what the heck, an image can't hurt, can it?

Hi Group,
Jean Claude Junqua informed me that Kranj/Slovenia based Janez Pintar made the first flight with his IBIS (registered as S5-MMA) last February.
After some initial re-rigging of one of his vertical stabilisers, Janez now has an IBIS that flies flawlessly.
Congratulations Janez!
take care, fly safe...

Hi Group,
today I've put a used Bendix/KING KLN90 GPS receiver up for sale on eBay. Please check out:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170201787396
FYI: I originally purchased this unit from the US, so it is equipped with the America's database.

Hi Group,
as of last week I was able to upgrade the KLN90 unit for a KLN90-B unit. As to my question about installation manuals: these can be downloaded from the following address:
http://www.mikeg.net/hobbies/aviation/avionics/default.htm
I dropped the KMA24 audio panel, as the only reason to want to have it was the integrated marker beacon receiver. Since panel space in my IBIS is at a premium, I decided that I'm going to install a small dedicated marker beacon receiver instead.
take care, fly safe

Hi Group,
the title says it all, just check out my write-up on:
Double electronic ignition for my IBIS

They might have one that will get you out to 2"... but my guess is that it'll make a better boat anchor than a canopy hinge.
D
Hi D,
that's what I was afraid of.... Nice hinges, though...

I'm considering these for my Long-EZ to replace those blasted piano hinges that stick out into the breeze:
http://www.soss.com/product/art/medium.asp
These blind hinges are available in stainless steel which is great. They also "lift" as they open (the hinge line moves up and out) which should eliminate the binding that occurs between the canopy edge and the longeron when using piano hinges that are tucked in too tight.
Perhaps they're a good fit for your IBIS?
D
Hi 'D',
a bit late, my answer, I'm sorry about that. Your proposal looks rather interesting. Would these hinges also allow for a pivot point that should be some 2 inches outside the fuselage line?
bye

Jon,
this is a topic I discussed extensively with JC during my visiting him in July.
Ever since his initial decision to cease distribution to the USA, he has been in contact with other European designers who ceased distribution of plans to the USA as well, most notable of them being Michel Colomban of CriCri fame.
All of these other designers decided to stop selling plans to the USA because the US judicial system exposes them to too much liability. This only reaffirmed JC in his decision. It is my understanding that JC's decision is now irrevocable - not just because of a single builder who modified one part of his plane (and since then reverted back to a per plans configuration), his current motivation is much more about not exposing his company and himself to any unneccesary liabilitiy risk.
