  1. Chris, you are absolutly right. I had a young friend who would never wear her seat belt, said it wrinkled her clothes. She managed a photolab and since the rest of the crew were all minors she had to print all the PD crime and accident scene photos. One day she had to do pics of four kids in a freeway accident and none of them were wearing their seat belts, cured her in a heartbeat. Its all fun till reality sets in.

  2. I don't want to hijack Chris's very valid thread Edge, -but- these $500 units are average red plastic cooler with white lid, you'll see them for sale in the buildings at Osh, fan housing on top, extension cord to plug into 12v, outlet flange for 3-4" dryer ducting. If you did a labrynth of aluminum plates with an airgap between for the airflow and packed ice above and below you would get frostbite. :D

...sorry Chris, it's all Edge's fault

  3. See there you go, the FAA does have a sense of humor whereas the PD does not; get anywhere near a vehicle with a beer in your hand and they are sure you intend to operate it... isn't that right Chris? :D

Hey Chris, when are we gonna see you on "Cops" we frequently see Harris County DPS on there ...Randi never misses it :ROTFLMAO:

There's no way I'd have had the canard on there by itself. I do have to ask, was this preceeded by a "Hey guys, watch this!" or "somebody hold my beer" ?

  4. Yah, we did a road trip and picked up all of our foam in one go. If you have a long wheelbase minivan and take all the seats out you can squeek it in, I think I had some in the front seat with me too....best time to accidentally drive off a bridge:ROTFLMAO:

...h'airbags? we don't need not steenking h'airbags, we have flotation too!

  5. TV sounds like a great idea so I can listen to F1 cars and MotoGP bikes scream around while I hack foam.

Oh nooooo... Between Randi and Jerry's wife Debbie... they are both F1 nuts, I mean its not just the drivers, they love the cars.

I guess you could always taxi test without your canard and wings attached if you want a thrill? OK, fess up, who has done this already??? :envy:

  6. The high dollar ones make the "cooler full of ice with fans" units they sell for $500 seem a lot more reasonable though with all of the experince one has by the time they finish their canard aircraft I dare anyone to buy one instead of cobble it up themselves :D shame on you!

I only know anything about a/c systems due to studying holding plate systems in yachts and workboats, you have to design a system made out of parts that will take a eutectic plate down to -40F so that you can have ice cold beer and spare ice for umbrella drinks in the Sea of Cortez in August with only one hour of run time per 24 hrs.... the necessities of life you know? Anyhow it helps if the key components of such systems are made from parts available in junkyards and auto supply stores for when they break..everything on a boat breaks.... hmmm, sounds like an aeroplane?

The unfortunate part of designing an A/C system for a plane is that it has its highest load when it is going to have its worst heat transfer on the condenser..while nearly static on the ground. So you are carrying around extra condenser area plus a fan? You might think about installing 2 AN-4 nutplates either side of that intake scoop for the condenser, then mold a fan housing with a gasket and an 8" industrial muffin fan used for equipment cooling. You're going to warm up that rotary anyway so turn on the A/C and Ground Power Fan. Probably be better if it clipped on so it would break away and go through your IVO prop when you forget to disconnect it?

  7. As long as it can sense when you are in need of power (climb) or coolant temps are high or trending upwards, it should cut out automatically rather than contribute to the system stress. Its a twofold negative in that it takes horsepower to run the compressor and the condenser wants to live in -front- of the radiator, both minuses but the condenser bothers me the most as you cannot "turn it off" like you can the compressor.

Not saying it cannot be done, not saying do not do it, just needs some smart control and a smarter controller when the smart switch fails to do its job.

I've heard that like in Southern Florida on a hot humid summer day you could pass out taxiing on the tarmac in a closed plane without A/C. I remember gardening in my yard in Houston during the summer, insane.

  8. Wayne, thanks, thats close enough to Hobby Airport. We'll probably stay with friends in Missouri City if it can be arranged(ironic, we live in a state of missouri) which is 20-30 min west of Hobby.

If Randi cannot go (take care of Kitty etc) I'll be taking a guy who is into airplanes and stuff, either way a visit would be uber cool. We will only have a day available and probably a lot of visiting to do... (except my sister, I'm sure she will be busy pulling the skins off of dalmation puppies or something)

"Johnson" Space center.. is that some sort of phallic joke?

    ...Chrissi

  9. Well, if you do get into any trouble, we should be able to take care of you. Between Chris and my brother, we've got the PD pretty well covered.

    B

Oh crumbs, they'll be gunning for us for sure!

    Brett, who is your brother?

How come I find all this out -after- the six months I spent down there taking care of my mother? (4 yrs ago)

Heck, they closed Gilley's, and my friend Scotty died, so how much trouble can I get into?

  10. No idea on schedule, depends on something else working out as well as weather, timing, accomodations etc etc.

Chris, please check with other builders in the area and maybe when we get closer to setting a schedule we can simonize our watches and all get together. Check around about mounts =)

I think with Velocities included down at NASA there were something like six canard builder/flyers at one time, several in one subdivision and two on one block, maybe a record concentration of canardians.

It will be a quickie, one day there max.

    ...Chrissi & Randi

  11. There is the possibility of needing to make a road trip down to Houston sometime in the future, any Canard builders down there want to get together?

Anybody down there need an engine mount and want to save at least $100 crating and shipping?

    Regards, Chrissi & Randi

  12. I went into the kitchen and measured the counter height, used that and its worked well for us. For some reason 42" wide worked out well for width, 48" is too wide in shop plus difficult to reach, less than 42 limited ability to do more than one thing on bech at the same time.

12 ft long becomes important with wing, spar and canard building after that not a big deal.

  13. Well the real contentious issue here was it was "proven" (on another list)beyond any question that there is no way a 12v pump could move the water necessary to cool a 200 hp engine, EVEN THOUGH most of the aftermarket hot rod accessory companies offer such a product for hotrods and roadsters, apparently they do not drive their cars or use pixie dust and prayers to prevent overheating and never ever could imagine a street rod being stuck in stop and go traffic with a typically small hot rod radiator right? But then what do they know, or Toyota for that matter?

My own objection to the electric waterpump would be to ask which is most likely to fail, a belt (breakage, derail or slipping) or electrical system failure preventing the pump from working?

    ...Chrissi

    PS..

  14. (For non-rotary list members this is an inside joke)

Any of you guys that have been around for a few years with the Rotary groups, I'm thinking of one in particular, this will have you laughing you butt off... Toyota is going to be using electric water pumps!

  :ROTFLMAO: :ROTFLMAO: :ROTFLMAO: The forum software would not let me use 100 dancing bananas
