TMann
New thread for this: Was there a new canard kit offering? If so, what was it? The single place canard design was created by Jeff Kerlo in 1995. A four place version was developed from that design (Orion) as well as a six place version (Phoenix.) The single place was never produced until now. Jeff teamed up with Russ Emanis who presents the Vacuum Infusion demonstration annually at AirVenture.Russ worked on the F-22 Raptor project at McDonnell Douglas and was instrumental in developing the Vacuum Infusion techniques used for the construction of that aircraft. Currently Jeff is working on the Raptor Aircraft project on a full time basis. The single place canard is being produced during Jeff & Russ' spare time with a completed airframe scheduled for Sun n'Fun 2017 and the flying version at AirVenture 2017. We built the fuselage shell during AirVenture 2016 resulting in a structure weighing in at roughly 25 lbs.Since then, bulkheads have been added as well as foam cores for the wings for the prototype. Kit wings will be constructed of carbon fiber ribs and skins. When the kits are available, the estimated completion time of the airframe (for a diligent builder) is estimated to take 6 weeks. It's too early to quote dollar figures at this point but from conversations I've had with both Jeff and Russ, it's sounding very reasonable. Not sure about the gross weight but (as I recall) the empty weight is roughly in the 360-400 lb range. More information can be found by searching for Russ Emanis on Facebook.
