Jon Matcho
While visiting my sister in Florida this past week I snuck away for a couple hours to visit Jerry Schneider's Cozy Mark IV project. Jerry was nice enough to allow me to steal precious time from his building to answer questions and give me a good shot of motivation. One area where Jerry is doing some interesting things is with his rudders: Using carbon fiber hinges from www.carbinge.com Will see NO screws from the outside Internal rudder bellhorns Curved shape of bottom-back edge of rudder Jerry estimates that the screw-less outside will save 1/100th of a knot in speed, but more importantly looks great! See attached pictures for his work in progress. I'll definitely be checking in with Jerry's Web site as I proceed with my own project. Somewhere along the way 6 hours had passed and Jerry was kind enough to drop me back off at my sister's place (just 6 miles away)! Once there, we sucked more time out of him, this time convincing him AND his wife to join us for dinner. After all, this was MY mini-vacation, and this trip was all about ME. Having seen both Jerry's and Wayne Hicks' projects this year, I really don't know who to put my money on for being first in the air. Best wishes to you both, and thank you Jerry for taking time out of your schedule.
