Long EZ Cost

I have been tasked to appraise a Long EZ. Can anyone give me an estimate of the total cost (plans to C of A or Registration), of construction of this aircraft.

Here's a stab at breaking down factors for costs:

  • Materials (foam, fiberglass, metal parts)
  • Tools, Labor & Disposables (labor, shop heating, epoxy, paint)
  • Engine (typically Lycoming 235 or maybe 320)
  • Interior (basic or 'upgraded')
  • Avionics
  • Year built
The contact Wayne provided has been appraising Long-EZs for years. You could get an approximation of what a Long-EZ would cost to build today by taking a look at the material costs for a Cozy Mark IV at Aircraft Spruce or Wicks.

If I were buying, and had the $, I'd guess that $30,000 is low and $50,000 is high. If I were selling, I'd feel that $75,000 would be fair for a freshly built Long-EZ. These are just my loose opinions, based on anecdotal memories of Long-EZs for sale on the 'net.
