SteveR
I'm hoping to buy a long EZ in the spring, preferably O-320 powered. My primary concern is getting a safe plane. What do I need to look for when I am inspecting them? I'm an engineer, but as a non-builder, I realize I don't know enough to completely inspect the thing myself. Regardless of what I find, I would like to have a couple of experienced builders/owners look over the plane with me. Any tips or input would be appreciated! Do most owners still have the plans with their plane? Would it be a bad idea to consider buying a plane that doesn't come with plans? Wayne Hicks
I'd recommend you do at least three things right off the bat. First, go to this link and thoroughly read the "Resource Guide for Non-Builder Owners of Canard Composite Aircraft," written by Terry Yake. (http://www.ez.org/nonownerguide.htm) Second, I'd get myself lined up with an experienced canard builder/flyer in your area. This can be done by joining the various canard groups and simply asking for a list of names. You'll get plenty of suggestions. Contact Terry Schubert of Central States Association (http://canard.com/~csa/). He keeps a listing of canard ownners from all over the country. He may be able to put you in touch with someone local. Ken Miller (http://www.long-ez.com/) is someone you can contact directly. If you can make the Rough River Fly-in this weekend, you'll get the fastest jump-start possible as it is the most popular canard fly-in there is. (http://roughriver.org/) I know it's short turnaround, but go there if possible. Good luck in your search! Happy hunting. ================================ Wayne Hicks Cozy IV Plans #678 http://www.maddyhome.com/canardpages/pages/waynehicks/index.html Quote Wayne Hicks Cozy IV Plans #678 http://www.ez.org/pages/waynehicks
Wayne Hicks
Steve: Another person to contact is David Orr, known to us as Beagle. You can find him at canardfinder@worldnet.att.net His email name "canard finder" just about says it all. He's established a great reputation of matching buyers and sellers. ....Wayne Hicks Quote Wayne Hicks Cozy IV Plans #678 http://www.ez.org/pages/waynehicks
