  3. FOD 2024:

Hopefully this will reach both lists. Q & DF.

As mentioned earlier, the FOD will be 5,6,7,8 Sept. at KDEH.

Rooms have been negotiated by Sanjay at the Borders in Waukon, IA. phone number is 563-568-2220.

Room rate 99+tx/ night. Ask for the "Quickie FOD airplane gathering” rate.

Cancelation policy is 24 hours before checkin time. Sanjay will attempt to get
this changed if he can, in a couple of weeks, when the Manager gets back from vacation.

Sanjay told them 5-10 rooms would be needed. They were ok with that.

So get your reservations made. Choose someone to bunk with.
Tune up your engines. Make sure parts don’t fall off. Dave, Roddy?
Be there or you WILL be talked about.
Get your plane out of hawk, Alan?
Fly in, in the farthest deviation from plans. Jon?

Ok, enough said. See ya there.

  4. Group all others interested,
You are cordially invited to the 2024 FOD. 5,6,7,8 Sept. at KDEH!

I’ve lost track, but I think it will be FOD 35. Honey Lamb will have to correct me
if that assumption is not correct.
The motel is in Waukon at the Borders.
Sanjay will talk to the manager about room rates, as the manager had offered
a lower than normal rate last year when he was checking out. TBD
Anyway mark you calendars to be there.
If you’er not there you know damned well we will talk about ya.
Defend your honor and show up.

OSD please forward this to the DF list

  5. Hi, I also broke my tail spring. This is not an easy repair but I modified mine to be replaceable and spread the stresses over a greater part of the spring. I just made a photo album overview of the process. This came in handy because during the recovery of my Dragonfly after my forced landing the spring was broken again. I was able to remove the broken spring and make a replacement with minimal effort.

  6.  Did you ever take the trip to Oahu? 97 miles of "automatic ruff" as my WW2 pilot friend told me once. He learned to fly on Oahu. I told him I imagine the mind would play tricks on a pilot..look down when over open water and see things that will eat you! I never flew when I was there in a light aircraft. Too much time fixing up the condo. Anyway..it was a good memory and I don't regret it at all. I hope your Dragonfly is purchased by a person that realizes all the value it has.

Please keep us informed who that might be so we can offer a hands up on any needs.

My wife and I went to OnoChar burgers and it was great to see they still are in business. Domi who is the lead performer in Kalamaku on the Plantation was one of the first people that I was taken in as Ohana. His brother-in-law owns OnoChar.  Domi told me once he likes Germans because we fixed a lot of things and then left. I said that is true! I understand and agree. I learned Omar his pig was killed by a pit bull which was sad because Omar was as gentle as could be.

     Smiles.. Aloha is good

  7. Thank you for those kind words Vern. I flew from Lihue to Hanalei Bay many times flying off my hours. It quickly became apparent that even at a reduced power setting I had to do S turns all the way up the coast so I could put more than a few tenths on the HOBBS. One of my favorite memories was the three sunset ride at Hanalei Bay. Watch the first one at 3500, climb to 6500, watch the second, and then to 9500 for the third. Then nose down back to LIH before it got pitch black and you lost the horizon.

    Great memories.

  8.  I lived in Kauai County for a while also Tom. Not far from
Coconut Marketplace.  We went back about a year ago
and I was really disappointed in the traffic and what the
State did at the beaches North side.

I watched your videos of your flights. I have zero doubt the aircraft is
all you say it is and more. A very nice example of the design I might say!

I might suggest you also post this notice on Canard Forum. There are
many composite savvy there and I have done some "stirring" of interest in
the Tandem Wing with my project. In fact..not long ago was a question
about anyone in Southern California being proficient in Dragonfly.

I pointed them to Charlie Johnson simply because I did not know you
    were in So Cal.

Anyway..might consider posting it there..and hopefully keep your Evil Bay
commission for your next Island Life!

I hate being house building poor.. I'd be handing over the cash and
backing up the truck to load her up in a heartbeat.

  9. Greetings fellow Dragonfly Owners/Builders/Flyers ...

It is with mixed emotions that I have listed N39XD for sale on Ebay. I have not flown her in a few years and have a new project. (42' Catamaran in the Bahamas and Caribbean).

I wanted to post on the list before anyone sees it on Ebay and wonders what's up.

    Here is the listing ...

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/186298809233?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=MOeMbPwLRuS&sssrc=2524149&ssuid=MOeMbPwLRuS&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

It would be many years before I could get her down there so need to find her a new home.

Thanks for 20 plus years of support and friendship.

    Tom
