A little help..I tried searching but nothing popped up
i seem to recall years ago reading about why not to use a roncz canard on a varieze
i recently bought a varieze and it came with a roncz instead of the GU
anyone flying one on their varieze ..if so your thoughts
or on the opposite side of the coin..why would it be an issue
thanks team

Kent,
Probably a silly question on my part but here it goes
what or why do you use/need a dehydrator for at the hangar?
-
is this still a book that can be purchased? if so or not anyone have a copy that they would want to part with

Mobicoop
I would love to see pictures and get details of your project

Marc,
I really appreciate this...I sent the photos

I need someone that has built a varieze that would be willing to chat with me on the phone and take a look at some pictures of my wing attach plates...the portion that is attached to the spar
I would like to understand how these are joined together and discuss a few things that I am seeing on mine
''I also have some play left and right as well as up and down at the nose gear bushing...looking for a resolution to this while I am working on some fiberglass repairs under the nose
thanks
James

He sent some pictures ..looks like a full blown long Ez to me...not sure where the vari came into it
Previously flying...but no data plate, no logs, been stripped ..paint as well as the gauges etc...very long time since the o-200 has ran or it has flown...looks like a major project..an in person look would for sure be a better evaluation since pictures are never a good view..but at least a start

I was chatting with a guy and he tells me he has a vari long ez...basically a varieze stretched a little with long ez strakes
I did a Google search and didn't see anything pop up like that
have any of you heard or seen anything like that?...I have not seen the airplane but when I am in his neck of the woods you better believe I am going to go see

That English wheel looks awesome
Much more substantial than the one I saw at harbor freight yesterday
You gotta love craigslist....great find, I can't wait to see the amazing things you create with it

A buddy of mine called me today and asked me about when I lived in Concord NC did I ever hear of a guy named Kent Ashton, that built his own long ez....I told him, in fact I do know Kent and that he is a great guy and about the flight he took me on and the amazing projects in his basement workshop...followed up by a why???
he then tells me our friend Kent is in the Popular Mechanics that he just received...I need to run out and buy a copy....
on top of being a very talented builder, an overall great guy and friend to other builders he is now world famous :-)
I just wanted to say congratulations to Kent and look forward to reading the article

hey guys this one that Kent shared earlier...I looked at and must say...very very rough and will more than likely never fly. I feel really bad for the lady, her husband has passed away from an accident non airplane related..but other than perhaps salvaging parts from it and the plans...
Also this one

-
Kent,
I am so glad that you posted this...what timing
I am going to start the repair on the scrapped up nose on the varieze I bought where the previous owner forgot to lower the landing gear...
my question is how hard was it to identify each layer/layup as you sanded the area down ? any tips or tricks you would recommend
thank you sir
James

Kent,
I am amazed at the ones the guys are asking 2 to 2 1/2 times the amount of what we see showing sold on sites like barnstormers or even the ones that show up on ebay repeatedly because the real buyers are not willing to pay the asking price or the bid up price by folks that had no intention of buying in the first place......or in the case of the long Ez with main retracts that recently sold and I see the new owner/buyer is now trying to sell it after flying it home .....always a head scratcher for sure

Major difference between the old hardware look and the cleaned up hardware...did he paint it with something after bead blasting
-
Kent..I am the very one...I live in Murfreesboro now just south of Nashville...how are you ...I still remember the ride you took me on in the cozy.
I had sold the project I had when I lived there...I fly a tomahawk now and bought a varieze a couple months ago that needs the nose touched up..the previous owner forgot to lower the gear on the second attempt at landing and skinned it up a little
How is that Bede coming along and do you still have the project in your basement
-
Yep..typo...should have been way cool
Looks like it was a factory new package,..what a find
-
Why cool Jon,
I can't wait to see your build progress and when you get to your first actual in the pattern flight 🙂

Roncz canard question
in VariEze
Posted
Thank you Kent..it’s been awhile since I moved away from North Carolina and last saw you..hopefully the thing with the Concord airport is in your review mirror, and I really appreciate the time you gave me in discussions about canards and of course the flight you took me on
i think I will build a as designed canard for it..
