  1. I was just gifted a Q-200. I'll be picking it up soon. I won't have any problem keeping the shop and garage warm, so I should be able to work through my winters here in N. Utah. I'm hoping for a three year build. It was an abandoned project before the ls-1 foil and other mods that made it a better plane. It isn't the Mark 4 I wanted to build but as they say....the price was right. And it's still fast.

  2. In either case it is still the beautifull workmanship we tune in for. Keep it up at this rate you should be in the air buy sept 08. Max addition over golf tubes cant be more than 5 or 6 oz.

  3. It's funny, I just got the go ahead to pick up my first home built, a Q200,

so naturally I'm trying to figure out how to go about it. I'm 37 and I havn't logged any hours scince I was 22 I think, and still have not soloed. So I'm thinkin', just what's gonna get me building time the fastest? A subaru, a mazda, a corvair, nope, probably gonna be an o-235. For the Q200, I really like the corvair but there just is not enough of a track record for me to fiddle dic around with it. I want to fly my own plane before I'm 40. I figure I'll go mod happy on my M-IV after I have a flying airplane to build time in. I'm choosing the 0-235 because I need it, I live over a mile high and my stip is almost a mile high. You think I ought to plan on a c/s to go with that?

  4. Tony,

I think that there actually all building. I personally have just procured a vintage design, a Q200 as it turns out I would be building too if I didn't have to schedual a trip to Cal to pick it up. You are not a nut job, well not totally.

I mean outside of building an airplane in your garage. I have done a bunch of fixet stuff, and there ain't no way in hell I would fly that thing with what you've shown us. So, KUDOS for not taking any short cuts. I would have done the same thing, Especially if I intended to put a 540 on it.

  5. At one time, when, it seemed that Mark was picking on me, I thought of him as Darth Zeitlin. Now after spewing forth rivers of protien water (loose weight you must) I think of him more as Yoda. Emmmmm lycoming you must, build - not type you must emmmm.

Funny thing is, after reading for hours on end KISS seems to be the only way to get in the air. I wish that there were a cheap plug and fly alternative, but it seems like if you really want to consistantly fly from coast to coast their just are not many* other viable power plants.

To those of you who continue to develop, I salute you. Use the force you must mmmmmmmmmmmm.

  6. So guys, what are the details on the fuel pods under the strakes, and also what's with sump's in the rear seat area. whats the total extra gallon wise on those mods? To date what is the most Lyc hp safely hung on the back of the

Cozy. On the extra fuel storage, is it more trouble than it's worth, you know in terms of pumps etc? What is the upper design limit on streight line cruise speed for a plans built airframe w/a big or pumped Lyc?

  7. Thanx for the invite, I'll swing up asap, time allowing. I'll be sure to call first

Oddly enough BASE is the only thing I'm aware of the Mrs.'s will not approve of, and to be honest I'm just to chicken for that anyway.

  8. "rsrguy....Oh yeaaa, rsr..that must be a Porsche thing you're pedaling."

I wish! Only the Japanese car collectors can afford those, me I just

found a cheap 72 model and have been spending the last 7 years working it over. Just painted it last year, me, in my garage. Lots of fun- my sweet, benevolent wife wrote that check, didn't even bat an eye. If this doesn't seem like a big deal, keep in mind I have 5 kids, all were living at home at the time. So now I need a Cozy IV to visit the grand kids and inlaws. Needless to say she likes the rational- it's a lot easier to say, "lets get a plane" than lets pick up a little two seat car.

  9. Touche' . My humble apologies Steve. I'm now to the point in my life where I hate unfinished prodjects, plus I don't sleep to good so I don't see completion as being of any concern. At this point I'm working at building my shop and will probably not start in earnest for at least a year. Although I will be buying plans soon. To clarify I was born into the aviation lifestyle and in no way see flying as a risky proposition. 90k seems like a fair value to me. As far as used or abandoned prodjects go I'm somewhat leery of others work if it's not documented, but with that said it seems like a great way to go cost wise as I want to fly-although I love building. My initial question was in terms of thinking of the future, with or with out me. I promise I will do better at enduring the ribbing, it's the  that throw me off. Sorry to all.

  10. Ya gotta love theory. Is there a smaller derated turbo prop that burns less? Not that I'd have the$$$$ to buy or use one? You know scince were theorizing. I just came back from looking at a friends LE and I'm stoked, again. He only needs to do the final fill and prime and then paint. He has an 0340 and says he can get a 2000 mi range.

That sounds a bit on the high side. Is it?

    -Guy

  11. So, whats the take on the aircooled 3.0 911 motor? I remember that they built stc power plants in the late 70's/early 80's. I'm a 911 owner, and in my

research I know it's possible to build a n.a. 3.0+ motor over 200 hp- this is without stressing the motor. 250,000 + miles on steet 911 is now, common place. Now factor in dohc, forged crank, and last but not least, it's air cooled-no h20. Cost if you build 8k. Don't know if it needs a reduction set up though.

Whats the opinion on this one?

    -Guy

  12. Ok, since we're talking cost here. I usually hang on to, and use the stuff I build so, resale is not my game. I do need to know what a cherry cozy 4 w/ o-360, cs prop, glass pannel, and applicable radio's will sell for? This info is for my sweetheart- as she would be the seller in the event of any fatal bad luck on my part-(other activities, skiing, hanggliding, sports car racing, etc, etc.).-Guy
