  1. Any idea when the new canard plans will be on the board for downloading ?? I'll be finished with the wiring harness for my Sub by the end of the week and need to get the next project lined up...I'm picking up my bare fuse on the first week of Oct. Wicks glassing practice kit already on the way with some vacuum bagging stuff I want to try. Can anyone tell me what the distance from the firewall to propellor flange is .... so I can get my engine mount started as well..

  2. Hard to believe the inside of the engine looks next to new with 82,000 miles on it. I could not believe how good it looked. As sood as I get the timing belt and idlers changed I'm going to do a leak-down and see what happens. I went to a flyin at Louise Texas today and checked out a Glasstar with a NSI 2.5....gives me encouragment. The owner advised I may want to check out Maxwell about a redrive. I'll tackle going throught the factory wire harness tommorrow hopefully..

  3. Purchased a 2001 EJ25 out of a Subaru Outback LTD. with 4WD and auto trans. today. Not sure if the ECU is the one people are using but a little reasearch should fix that. Real World Solutions has a plug and play that would be a quick solution along with a plug and play engine info system at a good price.....BUT....the stock subaru computer has some redundant features not on the RWS system.....choices..choices..choices...

  4. If you haven't done any composite layups, I would highly recommend ordering the practice kit from AS&S or Wicks. That will let you skip Chapter 3 and get busy into Chapter 4 (after you order).

    Will do today

With the Long-EZ changing some materials along the way, you have to be careful whether to actually trust Wicks to have updated their Chapter kits to reflect any material changes called out for in the Canard Pusher newsletters. I would hold off ordering anything until I received the Long-EZ plans from TERF, printed them out, AND THEN went through all the CP newsletters to apply changes to the plans to make current. After that, you'll have a better idea on what to order.

Have open ez plans printed as well as long nose cad drawings. Kinkos is going to make a manual for me from the Terf CD for $18 so I don't have to carry a laptop around or sit in front of the computer.

MGS has the least odor, good qualities, has a pretty blue-green color, but is somewhat expensive. Other epoxy systems work well too, and there's no problem changing along the way.

Sounds like a plan to me

Don't worry about it right now -- it's just a bulkhead.

Good to know..I will stop fretting over it then

Will go shopping for birch today and price rental storage.

  5. Instead of posting everywhere I decided to get my own going in my search for help to build this thing. I have the templates back from kinkos and I'm waiting for my Terf CD to show up....During this waiting I'm thinking I could have something on order and have it coming. So what do I start with for an order ? Wicks looks to have it laid out perfectly by chapter. Look like I'll have to find a fiberglassing system to use as well. Any suggestions? This is my first aircraft project but I'm pretty handy and have plenty model aircraft building experience and good electrical skills as well. Do I need to have my panel lay out configured before glassing it in place ? Tips and suggestions on all topics wanted....

  6. I don't need to burn any doors off and plan to keep it light. I'd like to maybe have fuel injection and electronic ignition.

I'm just throwing it out there for right now to see what others may be using besides the 200,290,320,360 stuff.

  7. I'm still interested in building one. I printed the templates at Kinkos and have measuring discrepancies. The measuring tick marks on the page margins are often not to the scale they claim. A couple of them were 1" off, with others being within 1/8".... But when I put the the drawings together, everything fits just fine.

I have exactly the same problem..to me it looks like the plans are just fine and I'm going to get on with using the plans as they are..

I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THANKS TO THOSE WHO MADE THE OPEN-EZ PROJECT COME TO LIFE...YOUR TIME GIVEN IS BEING PUT TO GOOD USE.

  8. I'm here is Houston trying to collect all my info to get this project going. I lost countless bids on ebay trying to get long-ez plans and this place was a true gift when I found it. My templates are at Kinkos and my terf CD is on the way. I just sent a check off to Rutan for rudder and canard plans but from what I have read here I will be getting nothing but my check back. Anyone want to sell or share some ? Anyone hear of some alternative engines for this thing....I'm thinking maybe subaru or raven redrive 1300. Anyone around the Houston area should shoot me an e-mail...we can mix ideas.
