  1. Any thoughts on these composite construction techniques for the cozy being suitable for building Darrieus turbine blades, of course with some kind of metal inner spar for attachment points.
  2. I've got lot's of vacuum pumps from the lab I work in, I was thinking about using that technique. I've asked the guy at AS to take a few days and see if he can put an entire kit together for me. I was thinking my pickup and a large uhaul trailer but that's gonna run me 800 bucks from Boston, I don't know if it's worth it.
  3. Do you remember if the shipping was really high for those bulky shipments, I was considering going down do GA and picking up most of the order
  4. I forgot this is for all canards..... An AS Cozy MK IV
  5. Anyone have any thoughts on what parts of the kit to buy for a start, actually I just want to buy it all in 2 purchases, so if you had to buy around half of the kit to start, what would one buy? Also, I have a very large space to build in, so I can make multiple setups and builds of components and leave them lying around to cure.
  6. I guess there is no cozy for FSX out there, I saw something that had to do with the guy who flew around the world twice in his, or maybe it was a long, I don't know if that will give you a working plane you can practice touch and go's etc. with though. I've got a nice 3 monitor setup with a yoke and pedals but I've only tried FSX so far, looks like everyone likes Xplane better. I bought it, I just haven't bothered to learn how to use it since I'm a long time Flight sim'er. any opinions?
  7. Thanks for the info, the cozy is the only plane for me, long range, fast, comfortable, but the guys I fly with are all anti experimental, and they've been giving me the business about my plan to build a cozy. They told me I wouldn't be able to do anything with it. I say let them plod along in their Cessnas and Cherokees.
  8. Yes, that's the kicker, because, that goes for ANY airplane, not just an experimental! There's a big writup on the EAA site debating that point, I was just wondering what actually happens in practice, if ATC ever refused an EA in a populated area etc. Thanks for the responses.
  9. Thanks for the reply..... One more question, a cozy is beyond what a "sport pilot" is allowed to fly isn't it, I think the airspeed and weight capacity disqualifies it for such pilots.
  10. Does anyone know what the actual flying restrictions are for an EA over populated areas. I know that they can be certified for night flight and IFR etc, but it's unclear as to what the deal is with flying over populated areas. The EAA defends itself by saying that according to FAR, you can't even really fly any plane over populated areas for lack of place to emergency land without causing harm, or something along those lines. If you build yourself a nice cozy, are you going to be stuck flying it out in the country?
  11. Does anyone know what the minimum door width is that one needs when considering a place to build a cozy markIV? Also, I wonder what the effect is on the resin when building in the winter, how important is it that the temperature be kept warm? After things set for a few days can the temp be allowed to go to ambient? Building in an outside garage with a portable heat source would create such a scenario... Hmmmmmm
  12. Thanks for the response and the pics, I saw that someone loaded one onto a car carrier too. Fixtures to hold the wings look very important but may be difficult to construct in a hurry, like when you drive somewhere to pick up a plane. Mabye I can fly one back home, but may wind up getting one that's not airworthy. Anyone have tips on what to look for on a used ez? I've read about the corrosion issues at the wing root joints, on the rutan website, I've also read about looking for delaminations, exposure to excessive heat.....
  13. I'm in the market for a used long ez and wanted to know what it was like to take the wings off to trailer it, if it's at all possible? any help would be appreciated.
