  1. When I was hugging it, it cleaned most of the dust off.
  2. I was stuck in Tucson over the 4th I went and toured the Pima Air museum. Lots of great military aircraft. AMARC, the long term storage yard for military aircraft is next door. To my surprise there was a Beech starship sitting among the warbirds. Even just sitting in the dirt covered in dust the Beech starship in a fantastic looking aircraft. I thought everyone would enjoy some pictures of the greatest canard aircraft ever made. Matt
  3. Started out with all intentions of building a Cozy. Decided on building a Long EZ.
  4. Interesting write up in the #44 on the Cozy flying without them. So removal of the lower winglets: Drops lift by letting the high pressure under the wing spill out. I can see how if you lose lift because of the loss of winglets you would have to move the CG limits slightly forward. Also raises stall speed and effects the behavior of the aircraft in near stall conditions. Plus it keeps you from scraping a wing. Thanks to Wayne, Richard and Drew for taking me to school. I'll keep the winglets. Matt
  5. What are the advantages of the lower winglets like on the Cozy and the LEZ? Berkut and Eracer do not have them. I remember a web site I looked at a few years ago where a Long EZ flyer cut his off, if I remember it correctly he did not find any difference. It seems like I could save some construction time by building the lower winglets like the E-racer. Opinions? Matt
  6. I think I will look at this finished but "empty" Long EZ and see what I am up against. Thanks for the advice. Matt
  7. Hi Matt, We are still honoring '05 prices. Regards, Larry LE_price_list_8_1_05.doc
  8. Oh wise builders/flyers of canard aircraft. Looking at buying a non flying Long EZ. Engine, avionics, controls have all been removed. Good work but an empty shell. I would love to rebuild it myself. It has previously been registered. There is no way to get a repairman certificate out of it no matter how much work I do...correct? Is it legal for me to work on it and then have an A&P check the work? Would an A&P sign off another guys work? Does it all have to be done by a certified mech? Good advice from an experienced guy was that most A&Ps are not familiar with Long EZs and beware or any work they do on anything other then the engine. The other option I have is to pay to have the work done at a shop that specializes in composite work put it back in flying condition and pick up a flying aircraft. But it will cost a lot more and I will not gain any experience. Any opinions/advice would be greatly appreciated. Matt
  9. I think Rick should finish it. I have been looking at his web page for for some time. Tried to send Rick and email but it came back. Will give it another try. Will look you up when I get to Norfolk. Would like to go and see some aircraft up close. Matt
  10. Looking for a Long EZ project or Cozy 4 project to jump start my building. I have plans for a Long EZ/Cozy mk 4, so a project without plans is not a problem. Getting restationed to the east coast (Norfolk) in the next month. I'm tired of dreaming and want to start building. Matt
  11. I have been looking around the island into shops that carry epoxy for surfboards. Trying to see if they carry or can get one of the approved epoxies for aircraft building. It's a shot in the dark, in about a week I will give up and order it from the states and pay the fee. Matt
  12. So far all I know is the ezpox cannot be shipped to hawaii. Not sure what ORM-D is..I need to do some homework. Tried to order a basic composite learning kit and was going to be charged 75 extra dollars per HAZMAT item. Any idea what type of epoxy can be shipped with no additional HAZMAT fee? Matt Still looking for a builder on Oahu I can learn from.
  13. I purchased a set of E-Racer plans when stationed overseas. Here are my impressions. 1. The canard section was not included and has to be acquired from RAF. 2. The engine installation section is a sideview diagram of where the engine would go. I expected a little more detail. I was under the impression that it was designed around his auto engine conversion and expected details on how to make it happen. 3. The section on the basics of composite construction was a photocopy of a Rutan manual for a glider. Is that legal? 4. I have not seen alot of support online for E-Racer. 5. Unsure of parts support. I have never seen a set of Long ez plans but it would be interesting to compare them side to side. Three moves and a couple of kids later I purchased a set of Cozy plans. They are much better. 1. Lots of online support. 2. Well laid out plans. I put my E-Racer plans side by side with my Cozy plans and there is much more detail in the Cozy plans. 3. Multiple sources for parts. I am looking forward to getting started on my Cozy. [Once I figure out how to get HAZMAT shipped to Hawaii.] I'm sure that some people have built nice E-Racers. In my opinion if you were stuck between the two I would get the Cozy plans. Just my 2 cents. Matt
