Yes, I bought parts from a airplane that crashed - battery on CSS hit pilot on his head & killed him. Batteries, fire bottles, crash axes(!) really need to be mounted down low & well secured.

Think about the KE of a 5 lbs battery at 10 Gs.

I was just idlely scrolling thru this thread and saw the Zerk fitting you installed in the MKNG-6. I wondered how to lube that in service...

Did you just drill thru to the space between the races, tap it? It looks like the NLG is retracted, so you lube it w/ the gear down?

"Resin content is compatible with most epoxy and polyurethane surfacers and topcoats, and reacts with the applied coating to tightly bind filler particles."

You need to prime your part after the wipe on - cure 2 hours - wipe off process - and don't sand thru the primer!

This only fills pinholes - not craters, fabric edges, gelcoat voids, etc. Use this after all contouring, filling, final sanding, etc. is done. Clean, remove all dust, use pinhole filler, prime, sand.

For us non-EI types, Lycoming has an oil seal retainer p/n 641361TM that I reverse engineered before finding it on eBay for $18!

To wit:

Also I love the large, "off-road" sized casters/wheels on the engine hoist. I'm changing my Y-style fwd outriggers on the hoist to U-shaped ones - you can get to loads so much easier.

Hi all:

An idea from motor racing:

We use much thinner exhaust tubing & (usually) in the "amateur" classes, mild steel. Ti and Inconel in the pro series...

The Brits came up with a small gas weld on the INSIDE of the flange to the pipe end, then a large external "collar" of braze fillet from the flange to the pipe - about 1/2" long.

This avoids the tiny HAZ of a TiG weld and supports the pipe-to-flange joint. Note that this is "bronze welding" using SIFBRONZE No 2 or equivalent, not using the US silicon bronze stuff.

In all the crashed tube frame cars I've seen, the tubes have failed, not the (English) brazing. Plus, removal & repair is easy - just heat up the joint until the braze runs, take apart, clean (very well), and rebraze. Since the base metal is never melted, you avoid lots of issues.

I've attached some info about nickel-bronze welding.

+1 on the springs - we used them to hold the collector to the primary pipes.

Great picture!  I have been thinking about making an inspection panel for the lift tab area to allow inspections. No engineering review yet. 

The countersink & rivet holes (w/ too little ED) aren't a great idea. These 2 detail parts seem to me to be the most critical on the Cozy...
