  1. I'm saddened to see the dissention of the free shareware. That information in the free shareware was a deciding factor if I should build an aircraft or not, and the PDF is not detailed enough to build an aircraft. You still need the temples. Ether way, I’m done with Part 1 of me 4 Part plan.

    1) Out of det.

    2) Buy a house.

    3) Buy my wife a new car.

    4) Build a aircraft.

It will be 2 or 3 more years before I will be able to build my plane.

    This is my update:

    1) all most out of det.

    2) about 1 year away from buying a house

    3) Got the wife a new Town & Country (the kids love it)

    4) Still dreaming about building a air craft.

  2. Some of you may remember the problem that my brother and I are having. We both have very wide shoulders. He is 6’1” and 200lbs, and I am 5’10” tipping well over 300lbs. Currently I’m doing Fat Flush so I can take off the weight. I know I’ll have to get down my old High school Football/Wrestling weight of 200-220lbs. But I have about 12 to 18 months before I’ll be able to start the build, and then a few years for the build.

1· Adding 6” to 12” to the width of a Cozy Mark IV.

2· Staggering the front seats of the Cozy Mark IV.

3· Modifying the Cozy Mark IV in to a 3 or 2 place plane.

Dose any one have AutoCAD DWG files. Once I get my plans I’ll need to redraw parts of the plain to fit my needs. :)

  3. The width of the Cozy is 42". If we where to add 18" to make it 60"; dose any one know how that would effect the aircraft? I know it would add weight, but I don't know how much. Alternatively, I could just forget about expanding the width of the Cozy, and just make my brother sit in back. :D

  4. With in the next years or two my brother and I are going to start building a aircraft. I’m 5’10”, and he is 6’1”. The only other problem is that we both have very large shoulders. Dose any know how wide a custom Cozy Mark IV has been made? The other option is to make it a Cozy Mark IV 2+Place, or put in a bench seat. I’m open for suggestions.

  5. The only thing not working for me yet is the magnetic heading (internal magnetometer). I tried calibrating it once and did not succeed - will try again someday. In the meantime I use the GPS heading (most often) or the magnetic compass (seldom).

    Hey PaulL,

The only thing that I could think of is that their may be a magnetic field that is too close to the Dynon. You could use a hand held compass to see where it is coming from, or I’m sure that Radio Shack has some sort a meter that you could use.

  6. I have the Dynon EFIS-D10 now flying for over a year and have no glitches with it. Easy daylight readable, etc. and fly by it exclusively. I do have a standard attitude, altimeter and speed indicator as backup which always agree with the Dynon. The only thing not working for me yet is the magnetic heading (internal magnetometer). I tried calibrating it once and did not succeed - will try again someday. In the meantime I use the GPS heading (most often) or the magnetic compass (seldom).

Thanks for the information on the Dynon... I was wondering how well it faired in the sunlight. That would probably be the biggest deciding factor in using the Dynon or not. If you can’t see it what good is it.

It will be about 3 years before I'll be able to start building my canard. I don't think it is too early to research everything you need. Seeing how avionics are about 1/3 rd of the cost.

  7. Just looking to anyone’s opinion about this "Dynon Avionics", or any other integrated product. The price is right, but I don’t know about the reliability.http://dynonavionics.com/index.html.

  9. it would make all too dang easy to pirate.

It's not like you can go down to your local Office Max, and have the templets printed out. Even if they did it would probaly cost you about the same. If we had access to the DWG file it would make like a lot easer to mod.

*.DWG are the indistory format for CAD file. It will alow any CAD program to read the file(s)

  10. ( the Air Force ) switched from the 4 bladed C-130 props to the six bladed curved props being used on the J models. "The propeller has a swept blade design, which provides rapid take off and climb performance

    -Jonathan

This is true, but the blades where much longer, larger, and engine put out a lot more HP. If I’m not mistaken, the Hell Cat put out about 1600+ HP. I don't know if a 200hp engine will do. I do know that length of the blades will determine the number of blades you can put on a prop with out losing efficiency. Some one with an engineering degree should probably chime in here.

  11. I love it. The only thing I would be worried about is the position of the engines & Wings. It looks like they might be too low. If you look at other amphibian planes, you will see that there is a lot of water spray, and their engines are mounted as high as possible. This is to prevent any water spray to get washed in to the preparers.

If you look at the OA-IOA “CAT” http://www.pbyrescue.com/Aircraft/catalina1.htm you will see that wings, and engines are mounted high on the plane. Good Luck with the build.

  12. So I guess that trick is to have 2 engine that take up the same space, and roughly the same weight. As well as cranking in optiset directions. Wile having enough power that you could take off and land on only one engine.

 Dose any one know how much the recommended engine weighs in at. When it has all assembled?

  13. :) I have emailed Ruben Leon he is the owner of a Cozy that uses two motorcycle engines. I asked him "Have you ever try flying it on only one engine? If so, how dose the plane handle?" his reply was "The airplane holds altitude at 6000' with one engine, half fuel and two on board."

I was thinking that the VW Engine can produce 200+ph, and the weight is not allot. In fact it is light enough that one person can pick the engine off the ground.
