  1. Yes mplafleur..., that's what I was thinking as well. Any idea where to look for a butterfly valve that would fit...? Can't find it with Spruce... Suggestions? Would you place it in the SCAT tube or before that by blocking the inlet itself...? Thanks for your comment, Cozylover Björn:)
  2. Hi John, Yes the OIL cooling seems to work too good actually... With the European summer now, it's fine, but in a couple of months it will run again on the cold side. The scoop was made by the builder (not myself) before the aircraft first flew, so hard to compare Performance with or without. At 8000ft wide open throttle (2800RPM) I get a TAS of 150KTS or 173MPH. At 12000ft wide open throttle (RPM 2680) I get 146KTS or 168MPH. I guess I loose quite a bit of cruise performance with the VG's installed on the GU Canard. I think it's reducing top speed with about 10MPH. But on the other hand it lowers the approach speed by about 10MPH as well. My approach speed (average weight) is 70KTS, to touchdown around 62KTS or so. John, how would you close of the exit of the Oil cooler...? My installing some ALU behind it or so...? Wouldn't it be easier to put kind of a air-blocking valve in the SCAT tube? Just wondering if somebody on this forum has ever done a similar job... All comment more than welcome.... COZYLOVER... Björn:confused:
  3. And a pic from the outside...., BJORN
  4. Sorry guys, Promised pictures were were too large...reduced them and will try to post them here and below... Regards, BJORN
  5. Hi Cozyflyers and builders, I've a COZY with the good old Lycoming O-235-C2A... I seem to have absolutely no problem with OIL TEMPS, in the colder climates my engine in running a bit on the "cold" side, cruising at FL100 (10000ft PA for you US guys..., my Oil temps stabilize around 150 to 155°F. That is with an OAT of about 0°C or 32°F. I would rather see them in the neighbourhood of 170 to 180°F. My Cozy has a NACA Oil cooler scoop installed on the right side which is connected to a 2 1/4 inch SCAT duct. I'm wondering if anybody ever had the same problem and if it would be possible to install kind of a valve in the SCAT duct to reduce the cooling airflow over the Oil cooler. I'm thinking of a valve which maybe can be manually adjusted for cold and hot weather operations... If this is a good solution...., which valve would you use? Looked in the Aircraft Spruce Cat. and couldn't find any... Hope this is clear enough, anyway I include a couple of pictures to make it more clear if needed. Thanks for your usual help, Enjoy the summer flying and/or building.... Cozylover, BJORN
  6. Hi Cozy-flyers and builders, As probably most of you guys as well, I have a bit of water leaking inside, when parked.... Planning to drill a couple of holes to drain the inevitable water, I was asking myself....what kind of drill diameter do you guys suggest? What diameter seems sufficient to drain the water? All other extra info is more than welcome.... Thanks for your usual help, COZYLOVER:confused:
  7. Hi Jake and John, Thanks guys for your reply. Jake..., can you explain me what kind of product "Windex" is? Sorry, live in Europe, there must be a similar product replacing it overhere. Regards and save flying, COZYLOVER-Bjorn
  8. HI Cozyguys, I would like to add an extra COZY LOGO DECAL on the nose of my COZY3. I have the sticker with me, it's an older one that was never used before by the previous owner and builder of the aircraft. Could someone please let me know how to stick these Decals on? Thanks again and best regards, COZYLOVER-Björn:)
  9. Looking for a second hand or new JPI EDM 800 engine monitor? Please mail me with your details and price. Cozylover, flybjorn@emirates.net.ae
  10. Hi builders and Cozy-flyers, I'm planning to install an Engine monitor of JPI, the EDM-800-4c. Have a few questions about this setup: * Has as anybody of you guys done a similar setup, or the EDM-700? * How many wires are going through the firewall? * I have a 4Cyl CHT and single EGT, can I use the same wires? I have no fuel flow now, but will install one with the EDM 800. * Anybody knowing from experience, how long the installation takes? * ON the JPI website, the EDM-800 costs 3600$, SPruce and Pacific avionics sell the units for 3060$. Any other good places to buy? * All other info concerning the above , more than welcome... Safe flying (or building), Regards, Cozylover flybjorn@emirates.net.ae
  11. Hi GregL and the others, As a European COZY owner, I would like to let you know, that Europe has 2 certified companies selling Diesel aircraft engines since more than a year now. 1/ German, Thielert, selling the Centurion 1.7 , JAR certified, FAR certification soon. website: http://www.centurion-engines.com/ 2/ SMA in France selling the 230hp JAR and FAR certified since July02 website: www.smaengines.com/en Unfortunately prices or still high, but the general thought is that they will decrease once production is up to speed. I agree that Deltahawk has had the coming first flight on their website, for far too long and that the company lost a bit of her confidence in the general aviation world...especially here in Europe. Guys, with the AVGAS fuel prices minimum 3 times as much as in the US, the move to Diesels, seems to be more an urgent thing here than in the US. Maybe some will not agree, but aviation is not "only" an American thing! There's no political motive in this post, only a piece of thought... Don't understand me wrong, I might very well order a Deltahawk engine if this is the best deal of the moment. Hope this helps, Happy landings, be it in the US, Europe or the rest of the world... Cozylover flybjorn@emirates.net.ae
  12. Yes S35pilot, I'm wondering as well. Would be nice to have a list of all the Flying COZY owners with their E-mails and aircraft details. If ever you receive something on your private email, please let me know. Best regards, BJORN flybjorn@emirates.net.ae PS: Have a French-registered COZY3, based in Belgium (Europe)
  13. Hi Canardiens, First thanks to all of you replying on my previous post regarding the choice of electronic Ignition. I'm still not quite sure which one to go for, it will be the Rose or the Lightspeed one. Looks like both are pretty equal... Totally beside the subject...my COZY is French registered and next year I would like to change it to the "N" register, since I'm planning to operate it outside Europe. Does anybody of you guys have an idea what the procedure is to do so? Maybe somebody on this forum did the same...? My COZY was initially build in the US (+50%), until the French builder left the US and moved back to France. So it was never really registered there. Also, I understand that the "conditional inspection" need to be done by an A&P or somebody with a repairsman certificate. Once again, I'm NOT the builder, but I'm allowed to do the annual inspection under the French regulations. My question....Can you ever receive an FAA Repairsman certificate without being the builder? I'm an EAA member....may they can do something for me?! Any thoughts? Again too many questions...., Thanks for your usual understanding, Best regards, BJORN flybjorn@emirates.net.ae PS: Included with this is a pic of my little baby...
  14. Hi Canardiens, One of my future update plans for my COZY (3) is changing one of the magnetos (2 Bendix) over to an Electronic Ignition system. I have the LYC O-235 engine installed. Have a few questions for you guys concerning the choice of electronic IGN: * Which type of Elec. IGN should I go for, with the O-235-C2A engine on my COZY ? Believe LASAR is not available for the O-235... * I find Xaviers Lightspeed interesting, is the extra money worth to buy the PLUS version of the PlasmaII ? * Still about the Lightspeed, Which one is preferable, the Direct Crank sensor or the Hall effect module version? * Has anybody of you experience with Autogas and Electronic IGN? Yes I know there is a lot of discussion about Autogas...please keep this for another time. Would Elec IGN be better or worse with Autogas use? * Any real figures on the installation time? Believe the Direct crank system takes more time...correct? * All other info regarding ELectronic IGN systems more than welcome! Save flying to all of you, Thanks, Bjorn MOERMAN flybjorn@emirates.net.ae
  15. Hi Canardiens, Thanks for all your replies. Some pretty good ideas among them. My Cozy is about 3000NM away from the place where we're living...Live and work in Dubai (U.A.E.) and the aircraft is still based in my home country, Belgium, Europe. So, unfortunately I can't just go and check things out. End of April I'm going to fly and work on the Cozy for about 3 weeks. I need to do the annual inspection beginning of May and this might be a good moment to check things out. I'll keep you advised on the progress. Any further hints or tips are still appreciated. CU all soon, BJORN MOERMAN
  16. Hi Canardiens, Have a COZY(3) I recently bought. Really enjoy flying it! The Airspeed indicator seems to be quite optimistic. I crosschecked with GPS Groundspeed on minimum 3 legs and then entered the data in one of the online programs ( http://www.reacomp.com/true_airspeed/index.html ) to convert IAS into TAS. After comparing the IAS converted into TAS (mathematically done, taking into account Temp, density alt...), with the figure I found with the TAS calculator online, it looks like my ASI is optimistic by more than 10kts. Only checked so far for the average cruise speed, not for higher and lower speeds. Also, a while ago I was formation flying with another Canard (Gyroflug SC-01). This guy just had his Altimeter calibrated. Flying at exactly the same altitude, I was reading +200ft on my altimeter than he was on his. I suspect mine over reading the altitude. Bringing the airspeed and the altimeter problems together, I would suspect a "Static pressure" problem, since ASI and altimeter are in error it can hardly be a Pitot problem. The Pitot is in the nose position as per plans as are the static ports. Did anybody of you guys had a similar problem in Cozy or Long-EZ? What should I check first....? Any suggestions.....? All good advice welcome, Regards, Björn MOERMAN flybjorn@emirates.net.ae
  17. Hi Canardiens, I'm in the process of buying a COZY 3, with a O235 engine. Only need to do the inspection of the aircraft and fly it! Can anybody help me with a list of the things to be checked on a "pre-purchase" inspection for the COZY 3? Any specific weak points I should know about? All info is more than welcome, but I'm a bit in a hurry...leaving in 24hrs or so! So, if you guys can help me, please mail: flybjorn@emirates.net.ae Thanks and a Happy 2003 to all of you, COZYLOVER
