Brice used expanding foam from a can (the Home Depot variety) on some parts of the plane. Perhaps that could have been the problem.
His first set of wings had this foam and created enough problems that he scrapped the original wings and built new ones.

What would be the value of these drawings along with the landing brake supplement?
I'm trying to help the widow of a builder who started a LongEZ sell off his stuff.
Anyone interested is invited to make an offer. You can also see other items for sale at www.coolairplane.com

Not sure if these are LongEZ or VariEZ, but they are A-1 thru A-14 sheets.

The plans have been sold. Please check the website for remaining items.

I found some plastic water bottles for 99 cents each to use as resin and hardener dispensing bottles. They are the kind with the a stopper you pull out to drink, and push back in to close, and they hold about a pint.

Long Ez plans, materials for sale in Plano, TX (Dallas).
Pictures and descriptions can be seen here:
Plans are original, and the project was barely started. There are various instruments, hardware, foam, fiberglass, landing gear and miscellaneous items for sale.

Here is a final update on the sale; The project was spoken for within 24 hours of the posting for sale, and it was delivered today to the buyer's address in Savannah, Georgia.
The buyer used www.uship.com to ship the fuselage and 6 boxes from Dallas to Savannah. I hadn't heard of this service before, but it's an interesting concept where you post what you wish to ship on the website, and various drivers bid to ship it for you.
If I had spent as much time building as I did reading messages on the Cozy and Canard lists, I might have finished the Cozy by now, but the exchange of ideas and the wealth of knowledge on these message boards is just too addictive to ignore.
I intend to build a different plane to fulfill a slightly different mission, and it will likely go together faster. Not to worry though, it won't be an RV.
I look forward to seeing all of you at the fly-ins.
Cheers,

Thanks guys, I appreciate the comments!

After not being able to devote time to building for the past five years, I am offering my Cozy Mk IV project for sale.
The buyer would start off in chapter 6 and begin work on the center keel. The asking price is $2500, and I'm in Dallas, TX.
More details about the offer and construction photos can be seen here.
Please feel free to call or e-mail me with questions.
Cheers,

The lower winglets come in contact with the ground in the event of a tip-up, as well as a hairy crosswind landing. Easier to repair the lower winglet than a rudder.
-
where are you located in the Dallas area?
I'm in far north Dallas. Check out the Cozy builders' map.

Regarding the shelf life of resin and hardener, see page 16 of Gary Hunter's Oshkosh presentation
Of course, the whole presentation is recommended reading. Gary is the recognized epoxy guru among canard builders.

Ken Miller posted this on the canard aviators list; I don't think he'll mind my cross-posting here:
Red Alert!
To anyone in the Springfield, Ill area. Richard Hughes' partner had an
in-flight blade failure of his prop on the way to OSH. If you have a loaner
to get them home, call Rich at 631 748 8083.
The engine is a 150 HP, but I have no other info on the bolt size, etc.
Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, same principle, but without the hinge. The cover on Jon's plane is removable.

One more rudder flutter and SWRFI
I met Jon Farr at the Hondo SWRFI on Saturday and looked at his Cozy. There is a patch on the right winglet that wraps around the front of the winglet, approx. mid point to mid point where the upper and lower winglets meet the wing. He told me it was to repair a crack caused by rudder flutter. That flutter also made the right wing move up and down about a foot (my estimate of the distance between his hands as he was telling me about it.)
The fix for flutter was to add a stop and push the rudder outward by about 1/16" at the trailing edge. Jon hasn't had any more problems since the fix. He doesn't subscribe to this list, but is considering writing a report. Nat says Jon hasn't subscribed to the newsletter, so he missed the fluter discussions in the recent months.
Jon has an interesting mechanism for opening the nose compartment - it's a spring loaded cable that actuates a pin which keeps the aft edge down. Pulling on the cable retracts the pin from a bracket at the bottom side of the aft edge of the cover. The forward edge simply has a lip that slides under the edge of the nose compartment. (I should have taken a picture of this...)
There were only a few canards at the "Texas Fly-in" on Saturday. I think there were 4 Longs, 2 Cozies, One Vari Viggen, and a Velocity. The other Cozy was Kevin Funk's.
RVs dominated the field along with a bunch of warbirds. A gyrocopter made a hard landing bending the frame and prompting a response from everyone who had a siren and flashing lights. Apparently the occupants were fine.
I think the weather on Friday kept many folks out, so it was a little disappointing to see the low attendance after driving 6 hours from Dallas. I suppose the southern location of Hondo didn't help bring more visitors either.

You're right Marc, I wasn't thinking. I've edited my offending post and deleted Mike's e-mail.

Try searching the Cozy list archive, it's there.

mil stands for a thousandth of an inch.
mm is the proper symbol for millimeter (aka millimetre).
Why can't we all just get along and live in a metric world...?
