    I can't  .... just yet!

The Plane is down for repairs (just finished fixing the fuel tank).

I'd like to scientifically approach the problem by remeasuring all the numbers first,

    then work from there.

That is now that I know what I didn't know (have a manual for my parts).

I have to get the plane back to the airport so I can start it.

I do like the fact that you used effectively using 2 moped batteries to solve your problem.

    And thanks for the spec.

FYI: I'm also sporting a brand new BC alternator.

    question: isn't the UB12080 (12V 8Ah) not 18Ah?

  3. Hi,

I have a Odessey PC680 I purchased for my Varieze.

Come to find out that it is not being charged by my Electrical system (puts out 13.2V).

I got told by a friend with a cozy (and a Ossey PC680) he had the same problem. In his investigation

he found out was that the Odessey PC680 needed 14.6V  to charge it (don't hit me - what I'm told).

My question is,  what batteries are folks using out their in your Variezes, longeze's, Cozy's.

Really not trying to recreate the wheel.

That fit the bill of reasonably light and can crank. Also charge with 13.4V applied.

    Thanks Dee

  4. Hello Kevin Walsh

I have a slow tank leak that is emerging from the bottom corner where

    the spar and strak meet.

I came across Kevins Walsh fix that he posted in response to S. Cambells

posting of "fuel tank" (topic message# 108414). Unfortunately, I had several questions.

Also, I was looking for some guidance here.

First question, would you (Kevin W.) change or handle the leak any differently from what you did

to fix your plane, Cozy IV (having had a year to further think on it).

Question 2: when you fixed your 10" square hole, could you tell me how you did it.

Did you re-install the foam? how did you glass the inside of the patch to seal it?

Question 3: Is it possible to instead of making a 10" square incision. Just Widen the

gas cap enough that you could stick your hand in the tank to do the repair and be able to see

inside it. Are there bigger fuel caps?

I had a problem on my right tank where when the tank was completely full, in a climb, it would wick from the strake to fuselage seam at the top, through the foam to a 1/8" diameter channel that I had put through to run the coax for my fuel level sensor, then into the rear cockpit as a drip-drip-drip.

I would suggest that there is no magical cure here.  You need to find the leak and properly patch it with EZ87 or whatever epoxy you used for your tanks.  In my case I ended up cutting a ~10" square hole in the strake top to access the corner, which had been insufficiently smeared with wet flox when originally.  I sanded down that intersection and put a nice EZ87 and flox fillet in there, and it has been perfect since then.

  8. Hi guys,

Presently my oil temp is climbing to 200 degrees. Do I need

a oil cooler for my 135Hp Franklin engine.

You guys with O-235 engines, do you need oil coolers.

How about you folks using O-320

  9. I have a Bob Holgate propeller for my variEz. Does anyone else have a Holgate propeller

or know how to contact him. I'm trying to verify that he made propellers for experimentals.

I googled him online and came up with display prop type of stuff.

    Any help would be appreciated.
