  1. Hello everyone,
Spring Fling is almost upon us.
The wx forecast changes from day to day it seems.  For example we were supposed to have rain starting overnight but ...
it is now expected late in the day today which means more fields will be planted and that's a good thing with the planting season getting later for farmers.

I was in Amish country yesterday getting some seed for a customer and they are only 10% completed.  We're about 50-75% done here in the Terre Haute area.
And the forecast looks topsy turvey and unpredictable throughout the week.

The best to all who plan to attend Spring Fling and hoping the wx gives you a break.
This one promises to be a special one as you will see when you get here ... providing the weather cooperates.
    See ya then, Keith

  2.  Floyd.. do you know where level is determined on the Q ?  Once you get exact level in a dead still enclosed building the process is to drop lines to the floor and mark those locations. Datum first. Datum is the forward surface of the firewall. Make sure your main tires are inflated to the exact same pressure. Verify your scales are accurate.

Do you have a copy of Advisory Circular AC43.13-2B handy? Chapter 10 provides each step to take in exact terms with clear diagrams. No matter what airplane, this is the approved process and it works.

It is possible to extract the AC data on line for free. Use the FAA website in your query for the AC.

I have a dog eared paper copy and a newer one I had to buy because my original was loosing pages. To tell you how important this Circular is, I've had to used it more than once in the factory settings to prove a point about correct processes, most recently in an argument with my Hebrew customers and I was at IAI in Israel at the time!  There is information in this treasure trove of data from the FAA that cannot be found even in Mil Specs. Since what they were arguing with me about IS in an FAA issued document, Israel Aerospace Q.A. had no choice but to accept my argument as true.

  3. Before you start moving things around, measure again your FS’s of the main gear and your tail wheel (while level). They are not the same on all aircraft. You want to be sure you are computing everything for “your airplane”. Then when you are sure of the numbers you can start to move things. You can do this “virtually” in a spreadsheet, to test your plan. This will save a lot of time and headache. Your empty cg should be around 40” or so.

    Cheers,

    Jay

  4.  Maybe a Lindy on the way?? One way to beat the RV crowd is to take ALL the trophies home!

I've never used the paints from this Vendor but the block tools are "top shelf" and TSS is an authorized
dealer for Linear Blocks. 15% off is sales tax and some of the shipping saved.

Even for those not looking to do this work the video is interesting and demonstrates
why these tools work. Honestly a builder could make these tools.  Remember, last month I went to the Yard Store
in Wichita.  As usual I am like a blind dog in a meathouse when surrounded by such items.

They had a LOT of sheet polycarbonate of this thickness. The polycarbonate tubing is one I have not sourced. So I
had in mind to at least present this to the Q list and probably also to Canard Zone since there are those that do this
(Exterior finishes) for themselves. A 36 or 48 inch ridged would be something to have for the wing and canard
final blocking Barry. I bought an entire box at auction of 3M 600, 1000, 2000, and 3000 wet or dry for 20$ and that is
where I expect to use it. Must be 20 packs all new of each. I glue the sheets on with 3M 77 spray contact adhesive.

Exterior finishing a skill like fabric covering or welding, or foam cutting.  Anyone that wants to take the time and effort
can learn, but paint errors are a PIA to correct and really easy to make!

At some point I just get lazy and buy what is already made, and this was one such item. It becomes a balance of time vs money and what amount of time to dedicate to which projects.

So..for me its time to get back to work on my cottage and then move on to more work on the Hangar so Frankenbird won't be forlorn for all time. The Capella is also wanting attention so I'll be working two at a time.
