  1. Nope. Sorry. Can't talk radio. It's not canard. OT.

There is a way to speak freely and at the same time, go out of your way to keep from stepping on any fairy tales being dragged around by the super sensitive crowd: Change the text color to match the background. That way, whoever wants to read what you have to say will only have to highlight the text area in order to see it. Those who can't handle it without flipping out don't have to unless they take the extra step and cross the PC line where they automatically loose the right to go Full-Blown Hillary* (*short version was subjected to sensorship). << Use Neo's Magic Anti Sensitivity Invisible Ink.

  2. . . . This is an airplane forum, and you will offend people with your racism and politics.

    Easily offended are you?

Well, as an American, I make it as point to talk about what I want, when I want, where I want. If that offends you, you might consider taking your blind lips off Obama’s slippery a** and planting them squarely on mine. Practice your Silly-Lib shut-em-up by calling them a racist tact on someone else, it won’t fly with me, I call them as I see them, and since this is an airplane forum as you pointed out, well, you know, you might want to use your key strokes to talk about things that at least have a chance to fly. ;)

Okay, everyone that now feels offended, say "Aye".

    Everyone else,

    say nothing.

  3. I understand #1. But are you sure the wind speed would be sufficient to blow that chain back to the prop?

Once the chain departs the cockpit over the pilot's head, you won't need any "wind speed", the prop will come and get it with the sure certainty of the moron-vote finding the Obama Box in November; It WILL happen. :yikes:

Hey, everyone else seems to be mixing bail-outs and politics these days, might as well go with the flow, the air-flow. :D

  4. Feather Lite shipped me my bow for about $50 +/- FedEX. I actually had to chase the driver around town a little to get it because she missed me at home. The bow was wrapped in cardboard and plastic. It fit in the back seat of my Hyundia.

I still may end up buying directly from FL. I like the concept of New NEW parts.

Martin, if you have time and don't mind, could you break out a tape and measure the gear you received from FL, leg to leg along the outside, and also post a pre-cut/tooling weight? I think that would be helpful info to add as ref' to a DATA base for the Open project. I'll do the same as soon as my previousely owned New gear arrive. Thanks in advance. :D

  5. Greetings Neo,

One thing of which to be aware is that both the main gear and the nose are cut down from what is supplied by Featherlite. Are the ones you bought virgin or cut. If cut are they cut to the dimensions that are appropriate. Why did they go up for sale?

Thanks for the tip. From what I gather, they are unaltered and still retain an original shipping lable. These gear were part of a two-ship buddy-system build circa '95. One made it into the air and is still flying while the other languished and hit the auction block for lack of opportunity to complete.

For shipping they can be wrapped in some sort of protective foam type plastic and wrapped with shipping paper and taped with a shipping label attached. The nose gear can be taped inside of the main gear before wrapping.

This is a rather unwieldy package but it works.

Sounds about right, the seller wanted to go full tilt and build a crate. :envy: After a hardy Woooo Nelly from me, I suggested he just get an old cardboard box and cut it into long strips, then just wrap it like a candycane and TTSOOI(tape the S*%# out of it) Looks like I'll get my gear to my door for less than $300.

Speaking of gear: Does any know what the current source for the nose gear assembly is, nosewheel-fork-swivel?

  6. How do these gear bows typically ship? Anyone? Can UPS or FedEx handle them? Anyone? I’m considering a cross country acquisition if the combination of costs offer a reasonable savings.

Let me update that: Just won a new Long-EZ main and noise gear on eBay for $200. Even if the shipping cost matched the gear cost, ME THINKS ME got a good deal! Maine to L.A., any guess as to the shipping costs?

  7. . . .

it has been suggested that I might install the rudder cable conduit through the side foam. My primary reason for this is to avoid having to drill a hole through the landing gear brackets.

However after discussing this with my brother I am having second thoughts. Mainly what I am about to do is a departure from the plans and it involves a control system, so I am a little shy about it.

    . . .

    Any thoughts or suggestions????

I plan to run my rudder cable conduits as straight, true, inspection-accessible and friction-free as possible. After all, it’s a machine, not a custom house. Are there any flying examples of fuselage-imbedded cable conduits with any significant flying time on the airframe that can be used as a basis for making a mechanical assessment of this cosmedic space-saving mod? Or is it a no-big-deal go-for-it mod?

Side Q: What’s the final word on H45 foam, slurry or no-slurry? Admittedly just a noob, but it seems the Terf/Open-Ez plans and CP’s read all over the place on this issue. Have there been any non-slurried (Pre-CP29 builds) falling apart as a result of non slurry induced delam’s? I’m planning to slurry, but I am slurry-curious, especially near last-call :P .

  8. Looking at my current acs catalog they show that they still sell chapter kits for the Longeze. STeve

    Steve,

    Is that the 2007-2008 Cat?

To get the ball rolling I went to ACS already and picked up: Uni, Bid, Uni-tape, Flox, Micro, Ratio Pump, 5 Gal MGS 285 + hardeners, Bulkhead and seatback foams and a bunch of mixing cups and other misc stuff. Didn’t see the Long-kit in the new cat, got a page number off hand? Ordering the balance of the fuselage foams and longerons tomorrow when their spruce guy is on hand to review what I want.

QUESTION: I plan on mounting an O-360, has anyone used beefed-up (larger and or reinforced) longerons for the larger engines? What’s the current consensus on structure mods re larger engines? Or will the plan spec longeron sizes still get the job done?

    Check out WicksAircraft as well

Thanks for the tip, I'm on it. Looked over your project in my initial browse/flyby, very interesting mods on the tub. I may be bugging you with a lot, apologize in advance for that.

    Thanks Guys

  9. Hi Everyone, Just another New Kid on the Block checking in.

Heard about the Open-EZ project from a friend. Building a Long has been a long time dream/goal of mine as I'm sure it's been for many here. Time to get started.

Question out of the gate before I get to reading out the site: Has anyone put together a cut list for the airframe foam using current sources and part numbers? Is Aircraft Spruce or Wicks still calling the material out as its shown in the plans?

  10. Sounds to me like you hit big!

If you can, consider photograhing everything before you more it. Get the back-story on the project also - Before and after stuff for the record. Look around carefully if you are buying it as a package, get everything that remotely looks connected to your project. Good for you!
