Like to buy a used Varieze but need 600 NM range plus reserve.
Is there a way to either replace the tanks with larger ones (unlikely since they are in the wing/strakes)
How about military style external tanks under the wings?
Or a aux tank in the back seat ?
I am sure it has been done before...

Drew,
thanks for your reply.
What I meant was - what parts, other than the plans, would one have to buy from the IBIS folks? Order them from somewhere else, then ship everything to the US and built it under a modified name.
Do they even offer any prefab things as canopy, landing gear...?
What are they charging for the plans?
Has anybody ever put the 60hp HKS 4-stroke engine in one?
Thanks again.

Hello,
has anybody hung one of those turbines in a Long Eze or Varieze?
http://www.innodyn.com/aviation/innodyn_turbines.html
(nice video link in there for a RV-4 equipped one)
They are pricey ~$28K, but burn JetA or Diesel.
Thanks

Don't be blue! Build an Open EZ!! Buy the TERF CD and download the free templates in the OPEN EZ forum and build a "Long EZ" clone, Call it the TTC (TexasTandemCanard) or something. The French think a little bit too much of the French.
Hi Folks,
my first post since joining this forum.
lagdamper - what would prevent us from ordering those plans form a county other than the US and then ship them over here? I got plenty of international connections.
What are they charging for the plans?
Do we need to buy any parts (canopy) other than the plans to complete the aircraft?
What is the TERF CD?
Thanks
Aux Tanks for a Varieze ?

Marc, thanks for the reply. Even though I am always the optimist - when it comes to aircraft performance I look at things as 'always glass half empty'.
With 25 Gal of total fuel I would guess about 23 max are useable?
Worst case scenario of fuel leaning/low alt/high temp I use 6 Gal/h as fuel burn which would be 3.8h endurance or 3 h with IFR reserve.
The crusing speed of 140 kts sounds good - but at what fuel burn?
Don't need a Varieze to go slow - what is the burn at max. cruise?
If I use 140 kts at 6 Gal/h, range is only 420 NM in still air, well shy of the required 600 NM.
I don't doubt your numbers - just wonder if someone could post realistic
'cruise speed at what fuel burn' numbers?
Thanks
