The Berkut is faster because it's a smaller aircraft with retractable gear with a larger engine. There's no magic.
Was there anything done on the Berkut to give it greater strength to handle the larger weight and thrust of a larger engine? What is to stop one from putting the larger engine on the Cozy? I know there is a group of people that don't like messing with the plans but I am just asking and I don't even have plans yet.

Of course, if turbine exhaust on the prop is a problem, you could always eliminate the prop:
What a better answer! I am a helo mech and use to seeing most turbine shafts coming out of the intake side of an engine connecting to a gear box of some sort. I would think that the issue would be keeping the splines properly lubed with the heat constantly beating at the seals. Someone smarter than me could probably come up with a solution to that but...

guess we shall find out
I hope you do! And I mean it. I like that people are still putting the "experimental" classification to real use! Good luck but just remember that you have to expect to pull it off and scrap the whole plane if/when something happens.

Ask him to scan it and e-mail it to you. He should be willing if it is true. I'd still find someone other than him to verify it though.

I am new here but from what I understand (not a lot yet), the problem with grass landings in a canard aircraft is that the prop will be affected by FOD being kicked by the wheels. In my opinion, it would be better to find another type of aircraft to use on grass strips. Some of the more experienced builders/flyers might be able to give better insight into this issue. Good Luck!

Doesn't sound like nothing to me! It does sound like fun though!
