  1. I've been flying for many years and was diagnosed type 2 diabetic about 5 years ago I think. The FAA isn't too bad about diabetes, once a year, a couple of months before the medical is due I go to my doctor for a HbA1c test and also I have to do a 24 hour urine test and have my eyes examined - these are things a diabetic should have done anyway. I get a report from my doctor (the FAA tells you what he should put on the report) and send that to the FAA and when I go for my medical it all sails through. No big deal. If I remember correctly the first time it took the FAA a few months to approve but after that it's been pretty straightforward.
