  1. Thanks for the guidance. I would love to just buy a flying example, but the fact this aircraft is crafted and less assembled has me nervous about build quality. I keep reading that your average Joe can put a Cozy together in a garage. Interviews with builders tell a different story. Lots of engineering and aerospace type folks. We’ll see how far I get. I’ll give Aircraft Spruce a call. Thanks again.
  2. I really want to start my build this summer. My hopes were to buy the cad, pre-cut foams in an attempt to fly sooner. It seems like there is no way to order and go build. Hunting for original plans, comparing plans to newsletters for critical changes, errors in kit manuals compared to original. It feels daunting. Everything about the Cozy is great, except navigating the process to get started. Any advice?
  3. How exciting! I think I will spend some time searching for a Varieze or Long Eze. I think working an aircraft back into the air might be best for me. Open EZ will be the backup plan. Thank you all.
  4. Very interesting. I missed that one. Thanks for posting.
  5. Ok, I like the capabilities of the Aerocanard. Also, with the option of a few kit parts, the build time could be cut down when money is freed up. Buying a used canard sounds very interesting. It would have to be a solid specimen. I'm sure there are some very experienced members here that would know what to look for. Does anyone know if there is a compounded list of available mods/upgrades/fixes for Long EZs? I guess maybe since its experimental, the sky is the limit? (pun unintended) More importantly would be fixes for safety and efficiency.
  6. I appreciate that, gentlemen. I figured a Varieze would be my most economical option into the world of canards. I like the CozyIV, but the price seems to go up quick with the engine requirements. Aerocanards still need the builder to acquire plans first, correct?
  7. After finally discovering the coolest aircraft to build for cross country adventures, I was discouraged to find out that plans for the Varieze and LE are no longer available. I liked the idea of using an economical 100hp engine without sacrificing speed. Are my only options to upsize “$$$” to the CozyIV (plans and parts available) or search for used aircraft (build quality questionable)? I’m not convinced on the Open Ez. I read a lot concerns about measurements being off or skewed images. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
  8. I just joined like 5 minutes ago. I've been back and forth about the type of aircraft I would like to build. It seems every couple of years my mission changes. I'm about 85% sure I know what I want/need. If I don't make a move now, I worry I'll always be stuck on terra firma gazing skyward. What brought me here... 1. I wanted a four seater (2 with bags, sometimes three). 2. Planes I can afford are 50+ years old or need a lot of help. I like the idea of building with hopes of finishing a brand new aircraft. 3. The tool requirements for a composite project seem manageable. I don't have the pleasure of an EAA chapter nearby with a plethora of specialty tools to borrow. I read one Canard Zone thread as a guest and learned more than I had after a week of searching the net. Excited to learn, excited to build, excited to fly! A.B.
