  1. Bunch of aircraft up for auction, including a few canards. https://www.mbauction.com/auctions/9724/landing
  2. VariEze asking 42K sold on Barnstormers. https://www.barnstormers.com/classified-1694333-Varieze.html Didn't even have a spinner on the prop!
  3. Sits in the nose under the cover. Odyssey 925. Size/weight was as required for W&B considerations after adding a starter.
  4. VariEze is one of three airplanes in my hangar, and like the third motorcycle in the garage (got three of those in the hangar too). Kent nailed it on limitations. I don't find it sporty or balanced in control inputs and response, but then I fly a Pitts, Extra, even a Decathlon, plus helicopters. Still fun though, and if you live on a longer runway it may be great for local flights. It is a bit fussier than a Champ or Cub or 150, with more precise control required in takeoff and landing, and the nose wheel retract to remember, and the canopy latching, and the fuel system, and the air brake..... Flying two-up on one with full electrical will be a challenge to the wing-loading, even more accuracy in pitch control and longer runway.
  5. Progress, cross-checked the new T-30 with a TruTach, and it is accurate to 1% throughout the range. Next to finish the wheelpant install, though that won’t change the 2150 static, or the doggy takeoff performance. Preference still to glass the transition to the gearleg, instead of to the top of the pant?
  6. Marc and Kent, thanks. I’m just in the process of mounting wheelpants (fitted, now need to glas the cuff to the leg) picture attached. Don’t know what they are. I’ll get that done before any further cruise tests. I was getting 2350 static with the old tach and thought all was good, then I put a new tach in and it only shows 2150. Need to crosscheck with an external optical tach to see which tach is right. WOT at 2000’ without wheelpants was 150 knots at 2580. Prop on there now is a locally made 63-72.
  7. VariEze O200, I’d like a little better climb and acceleration on takeoff. Before going too far down the rabbit hole, is it as easy as a new prop? I see ballpark static rpm target numbers of 2350. Anything else? Relative merits of an extension (how long?), spinner?
  8. Here’s another pic of them fitting together.
  9. Picked up a pair of wheel pants for my VariEze. Looks like another couple of layers of fibreglass were laid inside the front half to sandwich the capture of the rear. Never seen this done before, is it a Rutan thing?
  10. Existing bumper, maybe you can’t see it in the previous gear down photo. Question is do I mount a second one in front of it on the fibreglass nose.

    Nose bumper

I have a bumper on top of the nose gear spring. Do I need another between the nose gear opening and the nose (only about 5 inches)? CP said “bumper directly under the NG31 bulkhead”, but I don’t know where that is or how to attach a hockey puck. glue? one two or three bolts?
  12. I put a G5 in my other planes, thinking about it for the VEZE. Use it to punch through a cloud deck or driving through one of the scattered clouds in your way - never thought of that as IFR, nobody else around here either. If I did I’d dump the IAS ALT, T&B, and VSI at the same time, and use the -232 output for altitude encoding. Wouldn’t bother with the GMA-11, I don’t care which way it is pointed as long as I have ground track. Bugging all the V speeds on the IAS is real handy too.
