  2. Hi Christiaan, I am building a Cozy MK IV. Drop me a line. DM me. Bill Allen is also very experienced here in the UK with the Cozy MK IV. Br Steve Steve Mew. (LAA membership - Mr Stephen Mew 045381) Cozy MK IV (#1559) 07432 893369 // steve.mew at gmail.com
  3. Hi Jeff, The template I am looking at is the M series 4&5 in the Cozy MK IV Third Edition plans. Rgds s
  4. Materials in Australia Hi All, Got a question regarding CAPSTRIP. Q1. What is it ? What is it for ? Q2. Whats the alternative here in Aus ? Rgds s PS - Saw the discussion on last-a-foam. I am using Divinycell H80 instead. You can get all the foams from Nupol here.
  5. Hi All, Just wondering what your opinions are on the M series templates. I am almost at the end of CH4 and cut the foreward landing gear bulkhead last night.. I used the written dimensions from the templates to draw out the shape with a pen on the foam rather than trace the template. Admittedly this took a lot longer than expected but was concerned about accuracy. It turns out once I was finished and had cut out the shape it was too short horizontally !! This means for sure that I had errored somewhere.I basically used the measurments as noted from the the centre line -> RHS and then duplicated symetrically. So what gives ? Either the template stated dimenstions are wrong or the template lines themselves are wrong. Any thoughts out there ?
  6. Araldite works great. No smell. Wets out very nicely.
  7. Thanks to all who have replied ! The Resin decision has been made. After some discussion with Peter Karanges (SAAA CH 15 President and T.C.) we reckon the best way to go is the Araldite K3600 System. It's tried and tested in Australia on Jabiru Aircraft and will more than likely always be available for the life of the build. Details are as follows: Supplier : CG Composites - in Hendra, Brisbane (Scot Hood) Araldite LC3600 20kgs $310.00 plus GST Hardener 6.7kgs $241.00 plus GST Total: $635 inc GST with delivery. Should be here tomorrow which means I can get back to work on the weekend. Post Cured Properties : Glass transition (oC) TM22 90 DegC Tensile Strengh (N/mm2) TM48 70 % Elongation TM48 3.5 Flexural Strenth (N/mm2) TM46 102 Flexural Modulus (N/mm2) TM46 4800 Does anyone know what TM means ? as in TM22, TM48, TM46 ?
  8. My latest discoveries : ATL Composites - Southport,Gold Coast ------------------------------------- R246 Kinetix 18Kgs $281.90 inc GST H128 Fast Hardener 4.5Kgs $148.63 inc GST CG Composites - Hendra, Brisbane -------------------------------- Ampreg 22 20kgs $433.25 plus GST Hardener Extra Slow 5.6kgs $227.00 plus GST Araldite LC3600 20kgs $310.00 plus GST Hardener 6.7kgs $241.00 plus GST Jabiru use the Araldite LC3600, its the top of the range stuff. Ampreg 22 they uise in Germany for Gliders. Can't find anyone that uses R246 but it looks good on spec. Good Glass transistion, strength and hardness
  9. Resins in Australia Hi All, I have a resin question. I know that this dicussion has been going on for some time and have read all there is on the forum but was wondering if there had been any development of late with alternatives.... I bought the West 105 / 206 system and started the first layup (started building for the first time yesterday) I thought it was an approved resin for the Cozy as it was listed in the beginning of Chapter 3. On going back to the construction notes in the evening I found a footnote stating NOT to use it for laminating. This was abit of a blow as I have just spent about $500AUD for 20 litres with hardenner. Not to worry I can use it later for other things... So the question is this ? What other alternatives are there here in Australia ? 1. MGS locally with in Aus. I know we can get MGS from Ironbark composites but I refuse to pay the monopoly price they are asking and I have heard from various people who have dealt with them that they are not entirely shall we say good to deal with. 2. MGS outside the US. Does anyone know of any pacific rim distributors ? And whats the go with getting a HAZMAT clearance to get it into Australia ? is it cost prohibitive ? 3. Aeropoxy Are there any local suppliers of this stuff ? Has anyone tried it ? Any good ? 4. Araldite ? I heard rumours some are using this 4. Vinyl Esters Was talking with another builder friend who is a very experienced mechanical and aerospace engineer and he suggested Vinyl Ester. They have the same if not better properties over epoxy resin and its a lot cheaper. Has anyone trail blazed here ? (Derakane 311-350 or Vinyl Ester 470-300) Any thoughts greatly appreciated ? 10. Hi All, Just new to the forum and asking the same questions really. Where to get stuff. I posted to another thread and didn't see it pop up so not sure if it went through or not. Lets see if this works this time... Just got my plans this week ! Steve Mew Brisbane Cozy MK IV #1559
  11. Hi All, I just joined the forum and have recieved Cozy Plans #1559 so am raring to go. The question I have is do I just buy all this stuff from Spruce direct or spend the time sourcing this stuff locally. CH3&4 for example : CH3 & 4 BID Fibreglass RA7725 BID Fibreglass RA7715 Urethane Foam L335 MGS Epoxy Resin H335F Hardener Fast H335S Hardener Slow H45 PVC Foam (30mm X 1M X 2M) H100 PVC Foam (30mm X 1M X 2M) Last-a-foam Finnish Birch Cotton Flox Microspheres 2024T3 Sheet 2" X 4" X .2" Machine Screws MS24694-S Where do I get this stuff in QLD or Aus for that matter ? and Is it competative with spruce (after shipping etc..) Any advice greatly appreciated ... Rgds Steve Mew Brisbane Cozy MK IV #1559
