    Baffling

Thank you for all the pictures and emails on baffles. I did complete the project and flying almost everyday. The VE performs well. Climb I will see 404 on one cylinder and in cruise, typical CHTs are around 360. I'd say that's pretty impressive. Cruise is 187 if I really push it, most of the time 2650 rpm at SL will yield a cruise of 170+ mph. Of course, now I'm addicted to speed and would like to figure out how to get more out of my stock VE.

    Baffling

Thank you very much for responding to me. Just wondering if you might know where I can find some of these updates and / or "clam shell" designs? I've got most of the CP newsletters. So far I don't see anything in it. I'm putting in a 4 probe CHT/EGT unit. I know the value of knowing what's going on in each cylinder. Thanks again.
  3. Harmonics don't realy become a real problem until you step out of the RPM ranges that aircraft engines run at. Under 3k rpm it's much easier to manage than say 5k.
  4. So do all the HM-3 joints (elevator and alerons) have to be replaced or just the elevator?
  5. I too am a new owner and hoping to get 170+. What is your weight of the airplane? I've got a dual LSE ignition system that I haven't installed yet. I installed Klauss' LSE on a certified twin (Shhh, don't tell). The improvement was what was published. About 3 percent increase in cruise on 3-4 percent less fuel. Starting is a dream. All the mods you are talking about are limited. You can get a little here and a little there, but at a high cost of money and time. With a healthy o-200 and a decent prop, I would thing 170 would be easy, but I have yet to fly my VE. My empty weight is about 600 lbs.
  6. My VE is 600-610 lbs with a 105hp C-85 stroker. Light on the instrumentation (EFIS,EIS, COMM, Transponder). So, it can be done with a well made VE. Also, with the 0-200, I thought max gross for take off was 1110 lbs?

    Baffling

Here's the run down. Bought Varieze with RW-100 engine Removed engine and installed C-85 Have plans with RW-100 plans So, here's the problem. I only have simple drawings of the baffles, but I'm fairly proficient with 3D modeling and CAD. So I took some known measurements off the engine and scaled them to the drawings. So I've made all the baffles out of posterboard and they seem to look ok, but I was wondering if there was anyone out there that could send me some photos of what their baffles look like before I invest the time and material fabricating them out of metal? Someone told me their were updates to the baffles as well. Are there any updates that would help in the aid of cooling? I also have the Hal Hunt exhaust. If anyone has these, how did these work with your rear baffles? Thank you for your help. I should have the plane ready in about a month, if all works to plan.

    Cowling issue

There's even a RW-100 cowling apparently. I'm having to purchase a new o-200 cowling for the new C-85 I just installed.
  9. I'm a relatively new owner of a VE. I've had it about 3 years and never flown it. It originally had a RW-100 engine in it and I couldn't come up with the courage to fly it. I put in a new C-85 stroker in it last month and finishing up a few things. My question is. Do ALL the heim joints (HM-3) need to be replaced in the plane or just the elevator?
