  1. Does the prop rotate perfectly on it's axis? I'm not an expert but to get a general idea if it's close or not, while the prop is mounted, place an object like a chair with a wooden broom handle on it close to one of the prop tips almost touching. When you rotate the prop the other tip should have the same clearance. BTW Mine leads right too. Aileron trim broke. Always use rudder trim and I loose a few MPH.
  2. Took it out for a spin. Check it out ; )
  3. Yea I was not careful enough when waxing it. Anyway heres some pics
  4. So these are the things I replaced, repaired, or added to the plane since last month. -New Plugs -New Spin on oil filter -Oil Change -New Air filter -New High Temp Silicone baffling -New high temp Carb heat and main air intake hoses -New EGT Probe -New Oil Temp Probe -New Switches for Nav lights, strobes, and radio power -Added 2nd RPM sensor for the digital tach (only read one magnito before) -Glassed in new Vans Atkins fuel sight gauges w/ ball float (my old ones began to leak) Gas smell gave me a headache when I flew before I realized I had a leak -New outside temp gauge -Tinted the canopy -Cleaned gas cap O rings (I wanted to buy new ones but I cant seem to find the right size on spruce.) -Serviced Gascolator -Flushed Brake fuid and master cylenders -Added lighted Digital clock w/ stopwatch -Repaired and re-installed landing gear doors -Repaired kiss type spinner -Repaired cracks and a small hole in cowling -And of course waiting on my new composite prop from Craig Catto Whew. It was a lot of work. I just need to safty wire everything, fillout the logs, and have my A&P check it out. Then for some test flights and off to Catalina island I go. Update, Took her back to the airport and put the wings back on. Gass her up and after some high speed taxis took to the sky. The plane flew nice. Didnt notice any real diffrence with the VGs on the canard. I already lost one. I guess I didnt glue it on good enough. Theres a lot of them on there (50). I will do a cruise speed and fuel burn test on a 1 hour flight this weekend. I recommend the catto prop to anyone thinking of buying one. Seems like more thrust because I can barely keep the plane from moving on a full run up. Looks nice too. I will post a pic later.
  5. Me Too! Just got my Catto composite prop and it seems to have a bit more vibration. Also bites more air so it should perform well. Will try out this weekend.
  6. Well I just got my prop. Hell of a long time to wait. But man what a beauty! I got white with red tips. I will post pics later. Torqued it on and wired it up. Did a runup. Pretty sweet. Going to fly it probably this weekend. All the Vortex Generators are on too. So I'm ready to go.
  7. Well i'm in the process of putting on the VGs now. Got one side done. Got a call from Craig Catto today. The prop will be done by September 6th or so. 8. Well, I got through to them. Thanks. So it looks like I will be getting the VGs around the same time I get the new propeller from Mr. Catto. Anyone found any threads or documentation on the placement on the canard as well as any other locations that would help aileron responce and possibly other spots that may help with drag.
  9. Well they did not return my email but I sent payment out anyway. (Fingers Crossed)
  10. Anyone know another place I can get this kit? http://www.mywebco.com/cci/
  11. Well I emailed them several times with no reply. I dont think I will be mailing them a check. Anyone know another supplier for a similar kit? Also anyone here buy a prop from Craig Catto? He went quiet on me as well. I sent a $400 to start my prop around the end of june. The prop is suposed to be done next week and still no work from him. I was wondering if anyone has had a similar expierience when dealing with him. If its normal i'll just keep waiting.
  12. Great! Thanks for the info. I will order those today. But I was wondering.... Should I add some to the mains as well? if so, how many should I order? 50 or 100? I will use silicone, goog idea. Looks like I have one last project to do while I wait for my prop. I just finished glassing in the new fuel sight guages. The fuel level will be easier to see with the little bubble floating around in there
  13. Thanks drew. BTW I think I read on EZ.Org the story where guys were studying the airflow by taping pieces of yarn on the wing. I think they were trying to improve aileron response. Anyway I also read that the same guys were fabricating their own VGs. Do you have any info on placement? I see it above the lead edge. But when I look at diffrent applications I see them at odd angles. I will do some research and see what I can scratch up. Ideally I would like to do this mod before the plane leaves the garage for the airport. So much easier doing work on it here in the garage. I'm thinking of going with these. http://www.mywebco.com/cci/
  14. Vortilons...Even a better idea. I will research it. Thanks for the info & links. I did a lot of reading before buying. I even went to San Diego to meet and speak with Dan Patch. Dan was a great guy. After talking to him and another canard owner he shared his hangar with I was sold. David Orr helped me find the plane and the rest is history. Flying is in my blood. Dad was a crazy crop duster pilot and taught aviation at Mesa College In S.D. I'm a member of the Canard Club in San Diego but just have so little time to go to meets, read new letters, and such. 10 hour mandatory work day. ;( Thanks again. Lloyd
  15. Well I posted on the thread a month ago. Seemed like an easy question to me. Anyway I just looked around more and realized that there was little activity on this forum. Thanks for the replies Marc. I will try the canard-aviators mailing list. I have had my VEZ for just over a year. It’s been a fun plane. Longest flight was exactly half way across the country from Kansas City to San Diego. That being said I did not know about the rain issue until just a few months ago. I’m glad I did not have to find out the hard way on the way home on my first flight in an EZ. I just plan on keeping the plane and flying a bit more often. Will be doing some light IFR. The plane is in for an annual overhaul. Putting in Plugs, wires, EGT probe, Oil Temp Probe, 2nd RPM sensor for the digital tach (only read one magnito), new Atkins gauges (my old ones began to leak), Switches on the panel were replaced for the (strobes, radio, and nave lights), new outside temp gauge, a new composite prop from Craig Catto, and a bunch of other stuff I’m sure I forgot to mention. I wanted to get a new canard in the works so I would be OK if I ran into any rain.
  16. Everyone loves people with a sense of humer like yours.
  17. does anyone ever participate in these forums ???
  18. I have the hand crank assy off my Varieze. I upgraded to electric LG. It comes with the crank, shaft, wormgear/gear assy. Mounting brackets, shock dampner, Etc. Any reasonable offer accepted plus shipping. Lfrers@adelphia.net
  19. I just bought one from http://www.cattoprops.com/. Price is right and Craig is a nice guy and has a good rep. He just started mine last week. Said I'd have it in 5-6 weeks. That's OK since the Vez is down for maint. I got a fuel leak at the bottom of my two sight guages in the back seat area and I'm replacing most of my switches for the main power + radio, strobes, trim, etc. The Composite prop will replace my Sensenich wood 56" The wood prop has a few small cracks showing in the hub plus some minor but scary looking dents that penetreated the clear laquer coating in a few spots. The wood prop has a 3.5 hub and the composite has a 4" hub so i'll be getting new prop bolts as well. But at least it will match this nifty white kiss type spinner I got. I would go 3 blade just for coolness factor but I dont want to have to buy a new spinner as well. I think I'll be happy with it.
