  1. I'm still researching what I want to fly. I tried to acquire add'n info on Al's a/c and failed. It may turn out that the Aerocanard is the best choice and I'll then follow up if that is the case. I'll not spend time chasing that option unless it is optimal and his lack a feedback is an input as to if it is. all the best, John
  2. An element that is critical is service. John Olin [owned Olin Corp] went into a small brokerage firm one time [in the 40's] and bought 100 shares of his stock with cash to see how the firm treated 'regular' people. They served him well and he gave them tons of business [i heard this from the founder of the brokerage firm [who didn't serve him that day, just one of his regular employees did]]. A better question would be, if Al wants to mfg. a/c kits why is he ignoring potential customers. Cheers, John
  3. Hmmm... that doesn't give me any warm and fuzzies about considering his kit. I live in StL and it'd be convenient to have the mfg. in my back yard but not if he isn't responsive. thanks for this and all the info you share Marc - John
  4. I sent Al an email about a month ago but didn't hear back from him. I asked how many Aerocanards are flying and being built as I don't 'hear' or see anything about them in any of the forums. Does anyone know the #s? Thanks, John
  5. You are building a Cozy IV for $500? Kwel! ... How ya doin' that? I love the canard design and many of its attributes but haven't yet settled on it or an RV type craft. The Cozy is a little cheaper to build. The RV can use unimproved fields. Both can use similar engines [alternative]. The RV is a little more conventional and not as 'nasty' to build. A canard looks kweler [but I truely believe form follows function]. It is truely still a jump ball for me. Many more RVs in the air. Each can match the other for speed. John

    shipping?

I'm a newbie [joined a couple of weeks ago] and I thought I saw a reference to someone using a web site where freight lines 'bid' for shipping large items [in essence, I can get it there for $xxx [less than than the earlier bid]]. I'm sorry but I thought I saw this in this forum but I could be wrong. If anyone knows of the post I'm seeking please refer me to it. thanks, John
  8. I'm a newbie with a noobe Q?... what is the dihedral effect? thx, John
  9. Wouldn't buying the plans from TERF for $295 mitigate this particular 'problem'? isn't the only item being 'copied' not purchased are the templates? Isn't Jon's observation about the templates having negligible value in and of themselves true? I'm leaning more and more to a non-canard [for a couple of reasons] but love the design and would like to see it kept alive in all its forms. Seems to me that Jon has a strong position if the plans are purchased. Seems stronger still if the plans are modified to not be identical, is only done for self and non-profit and if not referred to as a Rutan design [re-named] but as a Rutan inspired design. John
  10. Jon - thanks for the excellent explanation... LongEZ2006.. .sorry you are pulling out. I'm not in the market but it is a shame to be threatened into submission... All the best to you both... Happity New Year John
  11. wouldn't the debris problem still be greater for a pusher than a tractor tho?
  12. I'm as dumb as a rock newbie... but would this not be true of a tail dragger? The engine would be 'lifing' away from the field not 'driving' down into the field. The one additional item I wished a canard could do was use unimproved fields. The little bit of research I've been able to accomplish indicates that even tricycle gear BD-4s have more problems [and unless 'modified' can't use grass fields] unlike trail draggers. Merry Christmas, John
