  1. Their big selling point relative to a three lobe Wankel is that there is no elliptical motion on a centerline crankshaft. The distance from the lobe connection points to the centerline of the engine is constant.
  2. An interesting concept. I do think there comments about their being no crankshaft are somewhat misleading. True, the design does not have a centerline crankshaft going through the engine, but they do have to connect the rotating assembly to the external pully to transfer power. So, instead of a solid shaft the rotating assmembly is connected by either multiple shafts or a conical flange to the rotating pulley on the outside of the housing. At it's current state of development, it's probably 10-15 years away from being a viable powerplant option. (provided it actually works).
  3. Instead of gull wing, could a gull wing type opening with a two piece door (top and bottom half) work and allow for reinforcement where the two halves meet to retain the torsional stiffness in the frame? I think the connection points around the door opneing would need to be heavily reinforced to support a tensioned load from the locking mechanism. Pardon my extremely crude drawing, but overlapping the door half and using a tension type locking mechnism similar to how a five-point restraining lock (hook and loop) could allow you to pull tension against the fuselage across a wider area still in line with the leading edge of the wing, and allow for a wider load bearing area within the door structure itself. I'm not sure about the weight considerations, but a pretty simple single lever locking mechanism could deploy the locks between the top and bottom halves as well as deploy the links to the fuselage connect points.
  4. There are a bunch of guys that built a system for RV-6's that included the PSRU, Belted Air Power Belted Air Power Website Has anyone looked at these for a Cozy/Aerocanard?
  5. I have followed the different threads about the legal issues (limited rights/exclusive rights) and the mocing of the company ownership. I wanted to be sure I am stating this correctly that the Aerocanard FG is essentially the Cozy Mark IV. The concerns about company ownership and legal issues not withstanding, it would be nice to have someone that has experiences making some of the pieces and can sell it in kit form. When (if) I ever get started with my project, it will be my first airplane build and the first composite work I've ever done. I'm sure that I could learn it soon enough and build completely from the plans, but saving a little of that time might be nice. (Who knows how old I'll be when I can get started ) Rick Cazenave
  6. I wish I had the cash, but the Christmas spending is draining resources right now. Good luck
  7. I've been interested in aviation and kit building for a long time but have not yet pulled the trigger on either a piltos license or building a plane. Just a bunch of flying in other folks planes over the years, annual EAA membership and some fly-ins. First it was work, then buying a house then kids... Always something delaying the dream. I've always like the canard designs (Velocity, Cozy, Long EZ, Berkut). Recently my scheming to get started on a project as escalated. I'm pretty close to the point of pulling the funds together to start on a Cozy Mark IV. (at least get the license and plans to start reviewing). I saw the eBay listing of the partially completed project a day too late. Finding the support groups and builder web pages is all part of my buidling plans. Hopefully I'll be around for some time, just hope that mine isn't a 15 year odyssey to finally get one built.
