  1. Well, while my home is only a year old, I got a huge jump on cleaning out the garage when I had to get to the plywood to board up for Dennis. Most of what is left is boxes and plywood, which are going into the attic with a few other bits an pieces. I was figuring I'd pick up a door and some sawhorses to get started, so I have a flat surface that isn't the floor. Now that I've heard this, I'm definitely going to go this route! It will also give me time to get plans and/or materials to build a good workbench that will be airplane-only. I was lucky when I was house-hunting - I found one that has a 2-car garage with an additional 54"x132" work area on one side. I think I'll wind up building a workbench in that area, put the glass cabinet/etc. in there, and have one entire 'car slot' open for the aircraft. (I'll move the other car when necessary!) Now to get home so I can start! daniel
  2. Well, it finally happened. I ordered the plans and DVDs from Al @ Aerocad, so I guess I've now moved from being a lurker to being a builder. I have a garage that needs about 1.5 hours' worth of cleaning out and then I have to build the workbench, glass cabinet, etc., and yet even with all of that "work" to do, I can't wipe the stupid grin off my face. As I do more research I'll likely look at following what Jon and others have done, i.e. purchase the plans from AS&S for comparison/CYA, but I'm still not sure of the necessity. I know the arguments about a few hundred vs the price of the aircraft, but those few hundred can buy some tools up front. Anyway, I didn't mean this to become a discussion about Aerocanard/CozyIV, I just wanted to share the stupid grin. So: daniel
  3. <Bump> Just bumping this topic. I haven't heard from anyone else, and am hoping to find a Cozy somewhere around here so I can at least sit in one! I am (very unfortunately) unable to make OSH this week - even though I'm in northern IL - so I can't even peek there. Anyone have a Cozy in the vicinity of Mobile, AL that I could visit? Or how about Peoria, IL? I travel there occasionally on business and could try to meet up after work sometime... Many thanks, daniel
  4. I wish it were easier to prove that I am serious! I'm looking to spend money sometime this summer, and not just on a set of plans. I'm still trying to decide which route to follow, but at a minimum, I'll purchase and fly. (At best, I'll purchase and fly as well as purchase and build.) I'm hoping that I can meet up with someone either in St. Louis or Peoria, since I travel up that way extensively. Thanks for the reply, though, and best of luck with your bird! daniel
  5. (I debated using the subject line, "Canards in LA?" but figured that the vast majority of people around here would think it trolling, having never heard those letters used to mean "lower Alabama". ) Hi, there. I'm daniel, a new guy on the forum. I've been lurking for quite a while, but have finally decided to join the fray and start asking questions, the first I have is this: Is there someone with a Long-EZ or Cozy near Mobile, AL that might be willing to offer a ride? I'm cursed with the dual afflictions of "engineer" and "potential buyer", so I'm looking for help making a decision. At the moment, I'm leaning heavily towards a buying a Long-EZ and building a Cozy, but the engineer part wants more data before committing resources. Thanks in advance for any and all help! daniel
