I purchased a used VariEZe less engine and panel a couple of years ago. Engine mounted ( Continental 0-200 ) and running great, but I am tired of Hand Proping. Because the panel isn’t complete, I have limited my activities to tinkering on the panel the rigging, and running the engine periodically. I was taught how to hand-prop by a very experienced pilot, and I haven’t experienced any accidents, or even a close call for the matter. The issue is after the engine warms up. You end up with one arm looking like Popeye the sailor from swinging the prop over and over again. As most builders already know, weight is the primary concern when considering a starter on a VariEZe project. This can be offset with a Light Weight Starter, and then cost is added to the decision equation. I have accepted the cost, and need to decide on a starter. It’s my understanding that the 2 light weight starters on the market are B & C, and Sky-Tech. Can anyone provide any feedback on either one of these? Thank you.
  2. Herc, This is a question I had when searching for my 0-200. There is a Tractor and a Pusher version of the Continental 0-200. As I understand it, he pusher has a reinforced flange on the crank. In one of the News Letters, Rutan posted an article that contained load data reveling no measurable wear on the Tractor version of the 0-200. The Tractor version is: difficult to find, more expensive, and popular in amphibians where the loads a significantly greater. Good Luck, Ghost
  3. I have decided to put a ROTAX 912 on my Varieze project, so I am selling my Continental 0-200 ( Needs to be re-built ) with Brand new Prop, Aluminum Spinner and exhaust pipes. I don't know what it's worth, but I am willing to entertain any offers. Send me an E-Mail if your interested.
  4. Nat, If your going to be in San Antonio, Lookup the EAA Chapter at San Geronimo Airpark. This is a very active group of builders with a sub-group of canard builders. Last time I was there they have 3 Cozys' in progress and 2 flying.. they also have a guy with a Velocity one with a Long EZ and one with a Varieze. Great group of guys. Let me know.
  5. Canard Zone Members, I purchased a VariEz project that came with a New Ted Hendrickson propeller. I am trying to get some information on the prop as it pertains to the performance. Can anyone point me in the direction of a web page or a phone number? The Prop is a wooden 56 inch prop with the following markings: H56G70 102579 Thanks.
  6. Congrats on your new bird. Have you taken a test flight yet? I am currently working on a 40% completed project I purchased this month. All the main structures have been built ( Thank God ) so I am hoping to have it in the air in about a year. I wanted to know if your 0-200 had any HP modifications? A Friend of mine has a VariEz with a 100 Hp Rotax 912 ( 45Lbs lighter ) that looks great and cruises at about 160Kts. I think with the right mods to my 0-200, I should get that, if not better. Please advise any thoughts. Ghost.
  7. Jon, Thanks for the info on CSA, that looks like a newsletter worth joining. FYI, I looked at your web page, and I am looking forward to following your progress. I am taking a class on FrontPage, so I can create a Web page of my own because I have been told that if it’s detailed it can serve as a log when it comes time to register the aircraft. Do you have any info on this? Thanks, Ghost. P.S. If your wondering, Ghost-Rider I was a boat.
  8. Jon, Thanks for the info on the other builders in my area. I found a fellow Varieze owner in Ft. lauderdale via EZ.org, but I was hope to find others closer. Thanks again.
  9. Just purchased a 40%completed VariEz project. Never done any glasswork, but looking forward to the challenge. If there are any So. FLA Canard builders out there, please let me know.
