    Cozy Jet

For all those who want a little more power than your typical Cozy Cozy Jet Link
  2. Have any of you seen this new program? Sure looks interesting. From what I've read it doesn't look like they have a broadcaster in the U.S. yet. Here is their web site The Aviators Here is one of their trailers Looks pretty good.
  3. The more I read about this Davenport guy the more he reminds me of Wiley Coyote Another Forum excerpt -------------------------------------------------------------- From ttj at Live ATC......... Hi guys,I hang out at SMO for 20 years,I know Bill davenport for that long. Quite a charecter.Besides the 2 crashes he has numerous gear ups, fuel starvation no telling what else.Today 8/10/09 bill is going to have his Pelvis put back together. He has broken ribs, had slight internal bleeding, they were concerned wiith that. I took his wife to UCLA there that day, I saw it crash.I was there for the first one as well. This guy don't get it.I like him as a friend but stay clear of his very talkative ways.He changes his stories many times.I really hope they pull his Ticket. Knowing him he'll keep going. He has blader Cancer ,has his bladder scraped at times.
  4. Another interestng bit of back ground info from the Live ATC forum "A plane trying to make an emergency landing crashed today on the runway at Santa Monica Airport, authorities said. The single-engine Long-EZ departed on what was described as a local flight from the airport about 2:45 p.m. and lost power almost immediately..." Plane crashed and skidded off the runway. No fire. Pilot survived but was extricated from the wreckage by responders. Condition unknown. * William Davenport had a previous crash in 1995 with property damage which led to lawsuits. He felt his insurer should cover these. His insurer balked at his insurance claim. He had made alterations to the design of the fuel system which he failed to have recertified by the FAA. extract: Because Davenport made several modifications to these plans, he refers to his hybrid design as the "Davenport Long EZ." District court agreed that they were not on the hook. So he appealed. And he lost that too. Here is the decision on the appeal: http://www.ellison-fluid-systems.com/homebuilt_court_decision.htm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1995 Accident: Pilot Badly Injured as Light Plane Hits Garage http://articles.latimes.com/1995-05-08/local/me-63717_1_santa-monica-airport Crash Raises Neighbors' Concerns on Flight Safety http://articles.latimes.com/1995-05-11/news/we-64969_1_santa-monica-airport
  5. Here is an excerpt from someone who replied to an online article on the crash. "Anonymous said... I was there and witnessed it. The Long EZ took off and seemed to have a seriously high angle of attack as if attempting to climb over the clouds at about 1000'. The engine sputtered and he turned left into the crosswinds which were at the time about 5 knots. he proceeded into left downwind and over the soccer field that sits on the southeast corenr of SMO as the engine kept on revving and then sputtering he turned into bast very abrubtly about 75' off the ground onto runway 21 where he bounced and skidded right off the runway to his right and it seemed the plane broke into a few peices but bunched together. there was no fire. Pilot/patient was transported BLS about 30 minutes after the incident. No IV lines had been started and only 2 EMT's were pushing the gurney meaning that it was probraly a broken bone(s) or similar. Did not seem ALS."
  6. Not to poke fun at an awful situation but from what you say it sounds like he has his crash landing down pat!
  7. In case your interested. Apparently there was an accident @ KSMO in Cali. Live ATC has the audio, although it doesn't indicate much. Here are a couple links with info http://www.velozia.com/?p=2335 http://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/wiki.php?id=66781

    Occupation

I am just curious what everyone does for a living to help finance their building desires. I guess I will start. I am Regional Sales Manager for a Fixturing and Automation company. The territory I have takes me all over Michigan and Ohio as well as all of Canada since since I call Toronto home.
  9. Btw, who is the guy sitting next to Burt Rutan?
  10. Here are some pics in no particular order. Also, I sat in on Mark Z forum. Excellent job Mark!
  11. So how LEZ and Cozys will be at Osh 09? I have never been to this event and have always wanted to go. This year a buisness trip that is taking me from my home in Toronto to South West Michigan so I have decided to take the last part of the week (Thusday Fri) and go. I went to Sun N Fun about 4 years ago but I am really looking forward to this one.
  12. Thanks Steve. That is exactly the type of answer i was looking for. I know build time is dependent on the commitment and speed of the builder, but all things being equal I wondered how much the larger size of the Cozy, or other parts or changes incorporated in its design, added to over all build time. You have answered the question and then some.
  13. Which takes longer to complete? And for those that have had the pleasure to build both, did you find one more difficult then the other? Since the techniques are the same so I am going to guess there is no difference but I thought I would ask anyhow.
  14. That'll work!......she may even pay for the plans!
  15. I was wondering how many people out there currently are building a Cozy or other homebuilt that have not yet received there Private Pilot License (PPL). I have always wanted to fly but never pursued it because of the usual excuses.... no money .... no time...... no money. I use to go to Air Shows every once in and around where I live in Toronto but they mainly Commercial, military or acrobatic type shows. While in Florida I had an opportunity to go to Sun & Fun 2002. It total changed my dream of flying into a goal. Before going there I had heard of people building and flying there own aircraft but I assumed they where very capable aeronautical engineer types. Until I met and talked to people at S&F I really had no idea of exactly how possible it was for the average person to build one of these. In 2003 I began my PPL training and while I have only completed the ground school and about 8 hours dual I am excited to begin the next stage of my goal which is to build and fly my own aircraft. So like my question at the top I am wondering how many people have started their projects before they got their license and determined if they will be capable and comfortable enough to fly. My other problem getting started in the build process is the wife. While she is very supportive in most things I do she thinks wanting to build my own plane is simply nuts. When I bring up the subject she lays the guilt trip on me about widowing her and my 4 and 5 year old. She came to Sun& Fun with me and did get to experience the same thing I did and she did seem to enjoy it, but she still is reluctant. So…..for you guys out there who faced similar resistance what tactics did you use to get the spouse on board? I have read a ton since I joined this forum a few days ago and I think you guys are doing a great job sharing info and giving new comers something exciting to get involved in. Look forward to your input,
