  1. John slade poors the oil into the fuel tank. For a 1 gal to 1 oz ration add 20 gallons fuel then add 20 oz of oil (I don't know the ratio he uses though). The oil mixes immediately with the fuel. No need to do anything else. He carries a gallon of oil in his plane for fuel up time. For in depth answers join the rotary mail list. http://lancaironline.net/lists/flyrotary/List.html
  2. David Staten gave a much more thorough (and better) answer than I did, but missed Nathan's question. 2 stroke oil is designed to stay in solution with gas. It won't mix out.
  3. Quick answer to the oil thing. This may not be completely acurate but close enough. All engines need oil on the compressions seals. Piston engines put oil on cylinder walls when the piston is up from the big oil reserve below it. When the piston comes down the oil on the cylinder wall lubricates the ring to wall interface. The ring also wipes most of the oil away so that little is burned. Rotary engines don't have the ability to apply oil to the wall. The backside of one combustion chamber is another combustion chamber. The engine needs oil for the apex seals (equivalent of rings). The only way to get oil there is to have it come in with the gas. Car people don't want to add oil to thier gas so Mazda has an injection system that injects crank case oil into the gas. Rotarys burn more oil than piston engines. Now one the faults of the rotary is poor apex seal life. The reason is crankcase oil doesn't mix well with gas, and there isn't enough oil injected. (too much injected hurts emmisions and oil consumption). 2 stroke oil is designed to mix with gas. You can improve the engine life and reliability by removing the oil injection and adding 2 stroke oil to the gas. Rotary race cars and planes typically do this. There is also a add on oil injection system that will inject 2 stroke oil from a seperate tank. But it doens't make sense to me. Its just as easy to add oil to the gas tank as the oil tank. And adding oil to the gas eliminates a system could fail.
  4. I have only been in a small plane once. It was about 15 years ago. The plane had no paint, a vee tail, and had a top speed around 90 MPH. Not exactly Cozy like. I don't need to fly in a small plane to know if I'll like it. I know myself. I know what I enjoy. I know that I would love flying a cozy. I do plan to go up in Cessna a few times this year, but its not a big priority right now. I plan to begin flight training about 2 years before finishing the plane and train hard till I get a instrument rating.
  5. This is the AeroCanard folder so I assume Paul is referring to the AeroCanard RG. The aerocanard RG is the same as the Cozy MKIV with a slightly wider backseat and a retractable main gear. There are several Cozy's being built with retractable gears. Check out Phillip Johnson's site. He's is one the biggest supporters of RG. http://www.maddyhome.com/canardpages/pages/plmjohnson/index.html But the designer of the plane Nat Puffer and many other builders are highly against retractables.
  6. John, Why is the Defiant a "nightmare to build"? I realize it is bigger than a cozy, so build time would be longer. There are two engines instead of one. So extra engine install time. But the basic construction techniques and level of difficulty should be similar. What makes it more difficult?
  7. Also the seller used the following email address when he wrote to me to tell me the plans were on ebay. nukeguy06@netscape.net
  8. Renee, The winning bidder uses a the profile of dendranina on ebay. I think there is a function to contact someone on ebay. The plans were sold on ebay item #2471765415 for $382.77. (I remembered it being higher than this). There is no info on the plans number.
  9. Nope no video. I looked through chp 3 and 4 last night. They don't seem to be too hard. If I focus on one step at a time I'll do allright I think. If only I could. Yep, when the weather is good I try to work on it. Main fort is done just need to finish the swingset. Should be a weekend's worth of work. But with just 4 days this month without rain it should take me another month to find that much time. For the boat I just move the cars out of the way once in a while or work in the yard. Its a D4 dinghie from www.bataeu.com. Plywood coated in epoxy with fiberglass reinforced corners. I'm nearly done. Another days worth of work probably. Take should take hmm.. 3 to 4 weeks. A ya, but because I didn't have room for a hummidifier I had to cover the dust pad with a duct. Now to clean the pad I have to remove the hummidifier. Once down I might as well try to attach better than I did the first time. I hate flowers, but I hate weeds worse. The bed is so badly weeded that I need to dig it out and place in weed barrier fabric. My wife could care less about weeds or flowers so the only way to get it done is to do it myself. Without the epoxy and fiberglass cabinets, where do I store this material? I thought I should get these done first. Okay currently taking donations!!! Thanks
  10. Hello, My name is Mike, and I am a Cozy addict. ... uhhh... sorry wrong forum. Well the plans arrived. I am plans #1294. Thumbing through all of that material sure is intimidating. Just one step at a time right. Anywho I need to get serious in finishing my sons playground, my rowboat, replumbing the hummidifier, and finish up the flower bed. Then just clean up the garage, build a table, build a epoxy box, build a fiberglass box, and figure out where the money for the first set of material is going to come from. I'm 28 now maybe I should make a resonable goal for a first flight on the .... day I retire!! Ya that sounds resonable.
  11. I didn't bid on the e-bay plans. I figured at $400 or more I wouldn't be saving much over buying them from acspruce. And I would have to deal with getting them registered, and wouldn't get my free catalog. I just bought my plans last week. They should arrive tomorrow. I think I made the right decision.
  12. AV PRO, He sold the plans on Ebay about a month ago for about $425.
  13. "Don't just read this and go on... stop in and give me an "AMEN" or something...c'mon!!! benchwarmers! builders! lurkers! engineers! (break code) honk if you love......????" Congrats on getting started! Its a big first step. Just keep moving those feet and keep posting and maybe someday you'll be one of those great shadows that guys like me will try to emulate. Well for my status. After visiting Dust and coming home all smiles my boss (umm wife) gave the approval to start. I had thought she would get the plans for my upcoming b'day. But alas it has passed and no plans. Now she states that I need to wait until after closing on my home refi so that we have extra cash if needed at the closing. Thats scheduled for the end of next week. Maybe soon!! Unless I get the job I was looking for in Arizona. Then I'll have to move my family across the country to move in with my brother in law. Then wait for my wife to find a job. Then find a new house with a big enough garage. Then ... Then ... Then ... Damn, I just need to take a step and get started!!
  14. Clifford, I lived in Phoenix for 18 years then Tucson for 5 years. I moved to Michigan 5 years ago. I love the Michigan weather compared to the Phoenix. In Phoenix its too hot to go outside from May to the end of September. 5 months of the year are lost for outside projects unless you wake up real early. In Michigan you can't go outside from December through the end of March because its too cold. Thats 4 months of the year. Michigan gives you better weather for outside projects. But maybe my memory is jaded. Spring in Michigan is assume. Also I didn't have an air conditioner on my house for the 18 years I lived in Phoenix. There was no escape from the heat. We used to go for car rides when it got too hot during the day to escape the heat using the cars air conditioner. I do miss the mountains in Arizona though. Michigan is way too flat.
  15. I am also interested in these plans, but if you sell them to Steve that's fine too. If there are still available you can e-mail me at mtorzew@hotmail.com.
