  1. Yes! That was once available here, but was a casualty of a software upgrade. I'll look for an option to make that happen. In the meantime, try selecting the Forum menu, then New Posts sub-menu to bring you here: https://www.canardzone.com/discover/7/
  2. A top priority will continue to be a click away from seeing the new posts stream. There isn't much content at times, so everyone, stop being so shy! 😉 I had offered and tried to do that for years, but was met time after time with rejection. Unfortunately the better of those two forums appears to have failed and the data may be no more. I am certainly open to that if it's even possible.0 There's a two-part answer for that: 1) Easy = just login to the forum and ads go away. 2) Requires work = I would love to replace the Google ads with proper aviation-related sponsors, but that's for another day. Until then, the few $ received from the Google ads helps keep at least 1 of the lights on. What else?
  3. Hello everyone, In order to keep current with the latest capabilities for the forum, I am planning to upgrade from version 4.4 to version 4.6.6 of the forum software. Version 4.5 introduced major changes 1 year ago, and the software is now mature and stable. Benefits include a refined user interface, and improved means to manage all of this stuff (which I will most appreciate). In addition, I am looking to improve the overall structure of the site to simplify its presentation and navigation. Mainly, this will be the top menu system, but may also include refinement to the forum/sub-forum structure. We have a lot of sub-forums here, and sometimes I get confused as to where I should post something. I am asking for input and comments from anyone that would help make the Canard Zone a better place for building and flying homebuilt canard aircraft. What do you want to see new or improved at the Canard Zone? Jon
  4. It wasn't entirely clear to me at least. Sure, the context included filler but nothing was as clear as this for example: Do not use the 635 Thin Epoxy Resin System from uscomposites.com for anything structural. With that said, I would imagine this 635 system would be much better than Bondo for filling. Purists might want for only an "approved" epoxy system, but the only at-risk item here would be paint falling off.
  5. I assume you're using this for fill only? Just so others reading this are aware, there are only a few epoxy systems suitable for structural usage. This 635 system is UScomposites.com's own, and there's no information available regarding its mechanicals to compare against the other epoxy systems that are used, and it's an unproven system in terms. @slk23 you may be the first. All I could find on it is that UScomposites.com does say that it's for structural use (boats, kayaks?) and this MSDS sheet.
  6. I suppose I need to be more visible? I'm looking to pick up the pace 🙂
  7. An obstacle in my progress on my Quickie and Cozy has been building two Glasair doors for someone else. I'm sure it could have gone more quickly, but I took the long way to learn how to do it. Glasair uses premolded door shells as part of their kit, and the process for fitting the canopy, locking it in, and then sanding and filling taught me a bunch of new tricks on this 2nd door. The picture below makes it look easy. I suppose it would be if I had to do it yet again, but the hangar being ~30+ minutes away doesn't help either. I'm nearly done, just needing some metal work and a few trips to the hangar. I am looking forward to getting this project out of my shop and promising myself I will not take on any more projects until I get one of my own done!
  8. The HEIC file format is relatively new and is catching on, but not fast enough for the forum hosting service to keep up with it. It will happen eventually, but until then JPEGs work. 🙂
  9. Kent, that is a nice looking cover! What was the inside material of your cover? "Raw" sunbrella fabric as well, or some sort of microfiber? Did you notice any scratches?
  10. From Nick Ugolini's blog, he builds a copy of an off-the-shelf tool that I'd want to use for long sanding. Nick Ugolini's Blog » Search Results » flexisander
  11. Owen, welcome to the Canard Zone. Your shop looks great. Interesting plane for your son... I was considering the KR2 myself. Feel free to ask anything and share any progress along the way.
  12. That should all be working, but... the store and forum at Quickheads.com are being moved to the Canard Zone. In the meantime I suggest discussing Quickie builds here.
  13. This particular post scrolled past my view... please message me here on how I can help you.
  14. That would be an adventure getting those to the U.S. Here someone would take you up on your generous offer in a heartbeat.
  15. Gents, what do you need? The store/cart at www.quickheads.com is currently having issues, so all purchases can be made here at the Canard Zone. Let me know whatever you need and I'll get it resolved.
  16. I was trying to use ACS' online search with mixed results. I found the search and results to be slightly better using www.skybolt.com. I would have purchased from them as a 'thank you', but their minimum quantity is 100 pieces which I didn't need yet. Otherwise prices seemed on par with ACS'. Here's their catalog page with search: AN-MS-NAS Hardware Catalog - Skybolt Manufactures Camloc, Dzus and Airloc Compatible Fasteners Thanks. I have what I need now.
  17. Hey all, does anyone have a link they can share that can translation each of the above specs? Mainly AN and MS. For example, what are the particulars and MS equivalent of a AN507-8R8 screw? That's just one example of many I need.
  18. Phil, welcome to the forum. Here are some additional responses to the numbered items in your mega-question 🙂: 1) Foam. The plans specify the foam to use. 2) Alternates to foams. Not worth the consideration in my opinion. I wouldn't even consider changing the foam material as the cost/effort-benefit would not be worth it. 3) MTOW vs Max Ramp Weight (and Max Taxi Weight). I just learned something trying to figure out what these two new MRW and MTW terms were. Most (all?) small airplanes only care about MTOW as the maximum weight the aircraft can be, whether in the hangar, or about to take off. I have never seen someone thinking about subtracting the 1 pound of fuel they might have burned from the hangar to the runway. 4) Round the World. Nobody is going to give you meaningful and specific advice on how to plan a round-the-world trip in a public forum, so expect that. Be prepared to deploy all your cash reserves here. Get in touch with Damon Meyer who was planning to do the same in his flying Cozy III, which he had fitted with a huge fuel tank occupying his entire back seat. After years of planning, campaigning, and real work, he has not been able to get off the ground though. It's a massive undertaking. 5) The Cozy plans include the Roncz canard plans (modified for the Cozy). 6) Engines... round-the-world... diesels... turbines... oh my. Build a Cozy IV with a Lycoming 360-type, take yourself to some places, and then your family when you trust everything. It's massive accomplishment considering the success rate of those intending to build and fly vs. those that actually do it. Once you've built and flown in standard configuration, look at your plane and revisit whether it's the one to fly around the world. At that point you will know enough to answer your own questions here. Your first step is to buy the plans.
  19. I am guessing that the fuselage parts are the upper and lower fuselage shells for an AeroCanard, unassembled and without bulkheads installed. I could be wrong.
  20. I split this into its own thread. Jim, as I mentioned in your private message to me... post a list of what's in there and attach a few pictures. You'll have tire kickers and serious buyers in no time.
  21. Not sure, if by "expired", you mean that prior thread is too old or actually expired, but it's still available here: https://www.canardzone.com/forums/topic/40245-cad-update-2/
  22. Here's an example of a beautiful Defiant with what appears to be equipped with dual C/S MT props: VH-OOU | Rutan Defiant | Private | Jarrod Swanwick | JetPhotos
  23. @A Bruce Hughes reminds me of another I left off my list: ERacer = a motorcycle w/side-by-side seating Cozy III = a motorcycle w/side-by-side seating and travel storage
  24. I agree with everything Kent says, which makes me question my own analogies... VariEze = a motorcycle that's a touch too small, but still a motorcycle. Long-EZ = a motorcycle. Cozy IV = a sports car. Velocity = a sporty SUV. These are relative to traditional aircraft, not aerobatic aircraft or actual racers. The Long-EZ is the evolution of the VariEze.
