  1. WD0ETH in Sioux City, IA but not active. Cozy 1145 Chapter 5 Denny
  2. Well I am a non pilot builder and was going to get my license at the same time I started but was told by a flight instructor the best practice would be to build first learn to fly later. His logic was, and it sounded good to me, if I learned now I would spend all my money and time staying current and would not have enough time or cash left to build the plane. Besides the way I see it building a plane is sort of a life long quest and even if I never do learn to fly it I will still have the enjoyment my just building it. As far as the wife thing I can’t answer as I am not married but maybe you can approach it this way. It will take at least 6 years to build the plane and perhaps several more depending on how much time you can devote to it. Tell her by the time you get finished you will be old and gray and she won’t want you around any more anyway. That and just tell her about all those wonderfully hours you wont be bugging her as you will be out in your work shop. Good Luck Denny
  3. Thanks for the plug Rick I am glad you liked it. I didn’t want to plug up the band width with funny stuff on any of the forums so I thought I would just make a spot on my page. I have more stuff to add keep checking. Thanks Denny
  4. Marc may I suggest you record a small wave file of your proper pronunciation and post it on your web site. Denny
  5. Well guys I am reluctant to post a reply to this as I think very highly of all of you and hate to take sides. But I guess I have to go with Marc on this one to a point. Since the primary purpose of any of these lists is to support fellow builders then to repost a strictly technical issue for the purpose of helping a fellow builder should maybe be allowed. However since many of the discussions brought up here are some times more controversial and can at times border on the edge of flaming or bashing. I would hate to see any thing I may have said in haste possibly taken out of context and used in a message that I am totally unaware of. I “try” to be non confrontational, and am sometimes disgusted by some of the useless and unproductive bickering that passes back and forth. But maybe that is what makes it interesting. I do believe though that we should, as Marc suggested, refrain from quoting a person in any non-technical posts. As far as the Wicks issue. I to have had a bad experience with ACS and have also had nothing but excellent service from Wicks. I have also since placed a small order from ACS and received everything ok. I am glad to hear and see they are doing better but I still have a slightly bad taste in my mouth that will take a while to pass. I also fully support Wicks in their decision. Their arrangement was with Nat and any transference of that contract in my opinion would certainly need to be renegotiated. They made a legitimate offer to ACS and were rejected. They also seem to be ok with not being listed on the official web site. I see no reason why any of us should change the way we do business over this matter. Just because you may own a Ford don’t mean you can’t buy a new oil filter at NAPA and I’m sure they don’t bother to send a royalty check to Ford for you. Sorry for the extremly long post and you may fire at will. Denny
  6. Hi Mark, I love your motivation, me and you have a lot in common. Check out my web page at www.redeagle1.com Keep building and let us know when you have a web page up. Denny
  7. That is a very interesting viewpoint and yes it does make sense. I guess I just haven’t developed my full faith in fiberglass and gasoline yet. I presume that will come, as I am totally amazed by the “strength” of the fiberglass construction. I have serious doubt that the vent in my idea would work anyway. I think the injector return would just dump it all over board. Not being a pilot yet I question one of the fears of a single tank configuration is vulnerability to contaminated fuel. Just how often does this happen in the real world and how serious is it? Denny
  8. I have been reading some of the threads floating around about fuel sumps in the back seat area and I find that a bit scary. Seems like it would open up lots of opportunity to take a gasoline bath in the event of a forced landing. However I can see some of the benefits to a sump type of system. Please keep in mind that I am just a new builder getting started and not even a pilot as of yet. But I was thinking, how about if a person fabricated a small tank say half gallon or so out of maybe Thick PVC pipe with end caps. Route fuel lines from the two wing tanks to a left, right, or both fuel valve. From there route the line to this small tank tucked in whatever available space. From this tank run a feed line through the fuel pump and into the filters, ext. You could run a return from the fuel injector rail back into this tank. You would need to vent both wing tanks and probably this sump tank. You could also put water check valves in it as well as the wing tanks to check for water in the system. I am thinking if this works it would allow a person to feed from both tanks or in the event of a bad fuel load they could switch to only one. It would also allow the injector a place to dump the over flow. I’m not sure about the vent line on the sump tank would the injector just cause it to dump the extra returning fuel back out the vent? I am a newbie to this group and I hear that it is not as heated as the other groups so please limit the size of ammunition. Fire at will. Denny
