  1. After practicing law for nine years, I "went over the wall" and entered law enforcement. Much more satisfying than my last career. My co workers keep telling me I did it backwards. Some of my lawyer friends think I am nuts, others are very jealous.
  2. If a Long Ez page interests you, http://mevans28.tripod.com Matt Evans
  3. I started in my garage. I have a two car and my car went in the driveway, the wife's van stayed in the garage, and I starting building in the other half. I got the fuselage on the wheels, canopy mostly on, spar built and mounted, and wings built. I then moved into a workshop area in an industrial park. I share the space with another EZ owner who is retrofitting his bird. I built the strakes there. It was easier to build with the extra room, but I found construction actually slowed because I could not walk out into my garage and work on small jobs as often. Good luck.
  4. Due to design and other changes, I am no longer in need of the rotary implements I have collected for my Long EZ. As such I have for the sale the following. 1) 1988 Mazda 13 B normally aspirated engine. Engine had about 75,000 miles when removed from vehcile. I met the person who removed the engine and I am confident it does not need rebuilding at this time. Thermal Pellet and tension bolt modification have already been performed per RWS suggestions, will include Tracy's Mazda for Aviation manual. $600.00 Includes Mazdatriz stainless racing header exhaust, and lower manifold, fuel injectiors, fuel rails, water pump. 2)Real World Solutions RD-1A redrive. Purchased July 2002. It has been unpacked and bolted to the block, but otherwise has never been filled with oil or turned over. $2200.00. Includes all manuals etc.. 3) Real World Solutions ECU, also purchased same time as redrive. Never even removed from RWS box, including manual. $700.00. I have emailed Tracy my plans to sell and he has no objections, so if you know anything about Tracy, I am confident he will provide support for your intallation of these items. Please email mevens@tampabay.rr.com or call 727 535 4226 with any questions. You can look at my project page at http://mevans28.tripod.com for picuters of above. See engine page. 5. As an item for reference, I am also putting a 13B on my canard. I am building a Long Ez so my installation is simplier than John's. My mill is a stock 1988 2nd Generation motor, normally aspirated. It is on a custom welded design motor mount. Conversion concetps does a mount for the Coxy so that removes a big hurdle. My exhaust is a Mazda racing header that will get cut down and a muffler attached. Stock lower Mazda manifold, stock injectors, stock fuel rail, slightly modifed upper manifold, aftermarket auto style throttle body. Tracy Crook's redrive and electric ignition. Tracy's tells me I should be in the neighborhood of 180 HP. While this is more complicated than bolting up a LYC. It is less complicated than writing a $7000-$10000 check for an overhual. 6. I am mounting the engine to the mounting plate and I know I saw someone giving the bolt sizes so I can go to Lowes and get longer bolts to go through the pan , the plate and into the engine. Thanks in advance. Matt Evans Clearwater, Florida
  7. There was an article in Sport Aviation about he and his Subbie VEZ about four months ago. The EAA web site has a search feature which would help. I am putting a 13B in my long ez and tinkered with the direct drive issue for a bit. I settled against it due to concerns about the thrust bearing taking the additional load, and the inablity to get the prop RPM up into the 4000 range on the motor. Perry Mick has a direct drive Mazda 13B in his bird. Best of luck. Matt Evans Clearwater, Florida
  8. In an attempt to answer the original question; I like the "look and feel" of this site better, easier to go to threads that are of interest. However, too many people seem to dump it all in coffeehouse. I am building a rotary powered Long. It seems to me this forum is more open to alternative engines. I asked a question on the CA once about where to find Rutan cloths other than Wicks and Spruce, I was lambasted for wanting to alter the plans. I am sure those people attacking me had 100 percent "stock" aircraft, (I think not) That is certainly not Marc's fault. This forum seems to have less people on their soapbox, again, not Marc's fault. I would never ask a question concerning my rotary on the CA, but I would here, but that is a unique situation, and probably would not apply to many others. I still read both, but I would not post on the CA because of reasons previously stated. A pet peeve for both sites, people ought to only be able to post under a real name. Best to all; Matt Evans Clearwater, Fl.
  9. License agreement, paragraph 2. Jeff is on this board, ask him.
  10. I agree with John. You know what they say about free advice from a lawyer, it is worth what you pay for it, but the license agreement I read on the Aerocad website appears to give Jeff the right to sell certain plans of the cozy IV and their derivatives. At any rate, I am glad I am building a LEZ. Note to John Slade, I also spent the good part of a day in Jeff's hanger and you are right, he does answer the phone a bunch from cozy builders. Matt
  11. Being as I am a lawyer by trade, I will certainly agree there are many sides to any disagreement, certainly more than two, as you stated. I was only gviing an opinion as to Jeff's quality of workmanship on his products he sells,at least the products I purchased, and his customer support, which I found to be positive. Good luck with your "ungrounding" Matt Evans Clearwater, Florida
  12. Group; While I have no opinion on the Cozy vs. Aerocanard debate because I am building a Long, I do have an opninion on Jeff. I built the molded spar style wings and canard for my project. I purchased all pre cut cores, spars etc... from Jeff. I can only say the craftsmanship of these items was excellant, and Jeff was always more than willing to answer my questions whenever I called him.. Not meaning to start a debate on this subject, but I feel the molded spar method is much easier and just as strong as the spar cap layup, with much less room to make errors. Chose whichever plans you like, but Jeff is a standup guy who provides a quality product. My .02. Matt Evans Clearwater, Florida
  13. Hello; Glad to see more rotary discussion. I am still working on the airframe. Tracy's ignition and redrive are sitting in their boxes in my computer room unitl time. A friend is welding on my second engine mount design, dubbed the Mk-2. I am building a Long so conversion concepts does not have my mount, they do seem to do nice work however. Still debating my intake manifold design, probably use the stock lower manifold, a racing style wrap over, and then build a composite runner with an automotive style throttle body on the end. I ran this past Tracy up at his place and he said that sounded like it would work well., (Good enough for me) Exhaust will be a pretty straighforward welded pipe with a muffler added. I plan on using the John Slade method of gobs and gobs of pour foam and then sanding for an original shaped cowling. NACA scoop and aftermarket aluminum radiator, with a Mazda or lighter aluminum oil cooler. Still debating the radiator cooling fan idea for cooling during taxi, I am in Florida so that is a concern always. Keep up the good discussion here. 14. Slightly Clearer now; I think will install a facet pump running left to right, The one in Spruce runs at about 30 GPH. "T" the return line. Switch tanks as normal throughout flight. Last stages of flight would always include right tank "ON" facet pump "ON". Whatever fuel is onboard is being directed into the feeding tank, regardless or where the return is sending it. I like that better than a motorized method of switching the return line, but that would also work. Thanks for the input fellas.!! Matt
  15. John; I was up at Tracy's last week picking up my redrive and EC2 and we talked fuel systems. I am at the same point in my LEZ as you regarding fuel systems. I have a question. By your last post, are you saying you are going to put a T in your return line? Is it your thought that the return flow will naturally go into the tank being drawn at that moment? I agree worse case is you vent extra fuel out of a tank. It would seem the return would flow into a less than full tank before it would force a full tank to vent overflow. A simple T with the return choosing its own flow would be simple, I like that. You will be flying long before me. I might rig mine that way and wait for your experiance. It would be fairly easy to change the return later if not working. Keep building, one day we will fly! Matt Evans Clearwater, FL>
