Hello, I am new to this forum but just recently bought a Speed Canard (S-29) out of California and am searching for a little advise. This plane has not flown since late 2019 but seemingly runs great and is in nice condition. We are working through your typical annual inspection checklist... but would love to have a better type specific checklist to go off of.

Does anyone here have any additional documentation regarding updates and or maintenance that is not found in the POH?

Much appreciated and I am hoping to get it back in the air in the next few weeks or so.

You might reach out to Rutan Aircraft Flying Experience--they use a Speed Canard for transition training.

Thank you for the quick response. I have reached out to them but cant find contact info other than an email., I will try again and see if I can reach them through social. Much appreciated.

@Ron D That is exactly what I was searching for! Thank you very much.

Second question - Since you found that... are there any other maintenance documents or manuals that you would feel a new Speed Canard owner should have? I have the POH in both english and German, and all of the maintenance records, but thats about it. Here are a few pictures from the first week of ownership.

Much appreciated.

Hi Jesse,

I have a complete maintenance manual, just took me a while to get it down to an acceptable size. The quality is a bit iffy when it comes to pictures, but I only have this scan, don't even know from where to be honest. I also attached the Service Bulletins, but I'm not sure they're of much use to you. Not sure they're complete either, FFT went bust in 1998 I think.

Love the last pic. Seeing it next to a Long-EZ makes the SC look more pudgy than it actually is. Is that an Inline-4 on the EZ?

Seems like you still have the old nose gear where the ball screw is used for both actuation and locking - from what I've heard, those start to get problematic after about 1000 landings due to contact surface wear, so maybe get that checked. FFT/Gyroflug actually had designed a new nosewheel mechanism, adding a drag brace, but never got it certified due to bankruptcy. Roeder Praezision then managed to get it certified as an STC in Europe, but I'm not sure it was ever FAA-validated, nor do I know whether they still make or sell the parts. If you can figure out how to use this mod legally, Google found a guy claiming to owning the parts and plans: https://www.speedcanard.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=147

Wow, Rob. This is hugely helpful. I will look into the nose gear. At the moment, everything seems to be in good working order but I will look more closely after knowing this. Thank you for the maintenance documents. These things seem to be pretty hard to find.

As for the long-EZ, that is my brothers and he has made fun of the SC being pudgy since the day it rolled into his hangar. But he is jealous of the construction and room inside. Yes, that is an inline 4 on the back. A Honda waverunner motor with a rotax gear reduction. The EZ has been modified to hold the radiator in the nose. This provides two unique features... Cockpit heating and the sleek look of no cowl cheeks. It should be flying again in a few months.
