This one has been posted several times on Barnstormers over the past few years.  15 knots from a pair of wheel pants seems...optimistic.  Am I off base?

Generally, a well designed set of wheel pants will pick up 10 - 12 KTAS over unfaired wheels tires, depending upon the tire size. 15 KTAS is optimistic.

This is actually kind of a famous early Long Ez.  It was built by Debbie Iwatate who incorporated a bunch of mods that later became standard.  She used to sell a little book with these mods.  I last saw this plane in the Carson City area.  I hope someone buys it and saves it. It's got great bones.

It certainly does have good bones. Well, somebody did buy it; and drug it 800 miles home to begin saving it. It was sitting outside at K0A3 for about 6 months and hadn't flown for longer. I don't know how extensive the corrosion is inside the motor, but it will get fixed. It went for considerably less than $27k.

I don't plan on changing it much, except for losing the vacuum system for G5s and ADSB out. The caretaker role is a little more my speed.

I've seen another for $95K - was told that he was offered $90K, but decided not to sell. I'm skeptical, to say the least, although there might be some fool out there who doesn't know enough not to pay that much for a Long-EZ. I've heard of show quality (like, OSH award winning show quality, not Marysville, CA Fly-In award winning) going for $75K, but even that's a stretch, and only for the very top of the line.

This plane is interesting - it's old, the interior is beat, the IP is old, the red on the winglets is contraindicated, the contouring (to the extent I can tell from the reflections on the winglets) is passable, but no more, the cowling needs repairs, the nose is way too long and (IMO) ugly, there's silver tape covering what are probably pod mounting inserts, and lastly, it's unregistered (at least to the extent that the FAA database is way out of date by 3 - 6 months).

Could be worth $45K, depending upon actual engine condition.

Oh, and BTW, of course it's illegal to "lease" or rent E-AB aircraft. I have no idea what it would even mean to "lease" an E-AB aircraft for a $95K price - for what time period? Not a meaningful question, in any case.

Other than that, sure - $95K - sign me up.

Actually, I recently was told of a scam method unscrupulous people use to steel money....  they post a picture of an airplane (not theirs) - and get a response and ask "what is your best offer?" and they get lowballed (like maybe offering $30k (15k under Marc's spitball thought based on the limited info given).  Then the "seller" says, I NEED to sell this (aka first sign of scam - heightened urgency) - and says if they velmo or cash app $5k he will hold it for you to review all the paperwork and come pick it up with the balance in cash or bank check... (even offer 100% refund if not everything they desired!)

They spoof the phone number so the real owners name pops up (it is a short lived phone number of course) - and even an email account for the velmo/cashapp that kinda sounds like what an owner of an airplane like this would maybe have "longandEZ@hotmail.com" (again short lived for the duration of the scam.  One transfers the deposit thinking they just got a FANTASTIC deal - a $95k plane for ONLY $35k...  To never hear from "the seller" again after the $5k transfer is complete.

an example that my friend showed me (he is a cop interested in aviation and he said there is little that can be done).

PLEASE be careful out there - these bad actors are becoming more and more clever and frequent.  They obviously have no moral compass.

(not to say THIS Long-EZ is not built to perfection and the photos are just not very good and this person actually believes it is worth this much....   but, I feel this might be one of those scams)

It’s only worth 35000 if it has decent low time engine. It has defects in the exterior and old tired panel and interior. It looks like this seller bought it really cheap and has done NO improvements. Plus he’s out of Las Vegas?  That in itself is a RED FLAG.

Yeah, the unregistered part makes it really shady to me.  I mean, it has N56EZ on the instrument panel, and it sure appears to have been well-used, but never registered?  Or maybe it was deregistered once upon a time?  And the owner is in NC, but the seller is in NV?

Yeah, there's something fishy about it.
