Sales I've seen

The listing says it needs an engine and there's no mention of the avionics

Quote

is the Tri -Q still available?

Quote

I bet there are a LOT of the EZ that have just sat and neglected to reregister - so the number from BMC could be off a bit.

Quote

I am not flying because (1) I used ALL of my time working on the Longeze and am not current

Please indulge me:  (1) The Tri-Q above was originally posted with a Craigslist link last year.  The poster was not the seller so I doubt anyone knows anything more about this airplane.  If you really want to find it, go to this page in the FAA Registry  https://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/Search/MakeModelInquiry    and enter Model "Tri-q".  Leave the Manufacturer blank.  Try different spellings.  The stupid FAA does not identify the N-numbers in that result or accomodate a search by Manufacturer Code but for any aircraft that looks likely, do a Google Verbatim search  [  https://www.google.com/webhp?tbs=li:1    ]   for a result like James Langley Tri Quickie  and it will usually bring up the N-number.  Go back to the Registry search and search for that N-number if desired which will show you some ownership history.  If you knew the county of location for sure, you could search by state and county in the Registry.

(2)  oftentimes, the best way to ask a poster about an old post is to send him a direct message which will go to his email address.   Do that by clicking on his name and finding the link "Message".

(3) If you just want to comment about the state of aviation or your own condition, please start your own topic.  The topic of this thread is "Sales I've seen".  Let us stick to canards for sale or sold.  Or how to track them down!

Your cooperation is appreciated.  🙂

A bit pricey for the high-time engine and somewhat elderly VFR avionics.

Compare:  I saw this very nice Mustang-II (pic) for sale in Utah by a widow.  Giveaway price of $12,000.  The ad is on Barnstormers.

Seen on the National Fake News website today (pic):  The seller lists it on the Ft Wayne Craigslist for $3750.  More pics there.     https://fortwayne.craigslist.org/avo/d/ossian-racer-project/7327125355.html

I don't have the patience to troll Craigslist for good stuff but I saw this aero engine (pic 2) listed in Columbia, SC.  A little small for most of us but maybe you Quickie folks . . .

Saw this one day:  Ad says "Dave Hanson built" but it seems more accurate to say "Dave Hanson built & re-built".  That could be OK but something you'd want to know.  I found the history below on this site which shows it has changed hands once before since Hanson worked his magic.   http://aviationdb.net/aviationdb/AircraftQuery    Hanson has been mentioned before here.  AFAICT, he was the builder/operator mentioned in the accident report.

BEAUTIFUL RUTAN VARIEZE • $30,000 • ACCEPTING OFFERS • Dave Hanson built Varieze N220ez 2005 134 TT 105TSMH high compression pistons, Hal Hunt exhaust, Silver Bullet prop, Ram Air, Fast. On September 4, 2005, at 1754 eastern daylight time, a homebuilt VariEze, N220EZ, was substantially damaged during a forced landing near New Cumberland, Pennsylvania. The certificated private pilot incurred minor injuries. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and no flight plan had been filed for the local flight, which originated at Capital City Airport (CXY), New Cumberland, Pennsylvania. The personal flight was conducted under 14 CFR Part 91. According to a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) inspector, the airplane had been airborne about 5 minutes when the engine lost power. The pilot then force landed in a field, and the airplane nosed over. During a post-accident examination of the airplane, the propeller was replaced, and the engine was started and operated for about 5 minutes at 1,700 rpm. The fuel system was also examined, and the fuel screens in both fuel tanks were found to be covered in a "fine muddy silt." A subsequent fuel analysis revealed that "particulate contamination and gum levels [were] very high." The fuel tanks had been open during the airplane's construction, and the airplane had about 30 hours of operation at the time of the accident. The pilot held a private pilot certificate. On his latest application for an FAA third class medical certificate, dated May 1, 2003, he reported 70 hours of flight time. Despite multiple requests and a verbal assurance that he would do so, the pilot did not return a NTSB Form 6120.1, as required per 49 CFR 831, which may have provided additional information regarding this event.

I have examined multiple aircraft that Mr. Hanson has "built", "rebuilt" or just worked on. Suffice it to say that if anyone ever comes near a Hanson aircraft, they should run away as fast as humanly possible. I have a list of people who also know Mr. Hanson's work and ethics and feel the same way.

Here ya go, Q1 fans.  Today's B-stormers (3 pics).  I found 3 Q1s in Utah but they did not seem to match.  Seems too far along not to have been registered.  Be sure you get prove chain-of-title from the deceased former owner and can ID the prior airworthiness certificate, otherwise it is just a nice backyard toy for the kids.

2012 RUTAN QUICKIE Q1 • $4,000 • AVAILABLE FOR SALE OR TRADE • 2012 Rutan Quickie Q1, Comes with turbo diesel engine. Turns freely but not sure if it works. Out of registration. No paperwork. The builder has passed away so I don't have much info on it. The previous owner sprayed primer on all the scratches (hanger rash) thinking it would protect the fiberglass. Needs repaint obviously. Kent, I am wondering if this might be the 2001 LongEZ that you reference in the above post.

https://flightaware.com/resources/registration/N2617Z

If so, here are some pictures, funny enough pulled from this thread.

https://www.canardzone.com/forums/topic/21972-sales-ive-seen/page/22/. #Comment 67261. This post references the western slopes of Colorado. Grand Junction would be on the west slope of the rockies along with the western part of Canada.

I'd have to agree with Marc on being aware of Mr. Hanson's work, I can speak from personal experience.  That said, we have worked very hard of the last couple of years getting our Varie to a dependable and safe state.  It's been a mission to say the least.  From my point of view, I would look at how much recent time has been put on any of these aircraft.  We've logged around 180 hours or so in 24 months.

On the one he crashed, that would be up to someone who is willing to invest in that airframe knowing that history, just like any other plane that's had extremely significant damage. I'm hesitant to comment on anyone's airplane, but IMO I would think there are some better options at that price point and that is just my opinion, take it for what you paid for it.

Just because Mr. Hanson worked on an airplane, doesn't mean it's a bad choice, just get someone knowledgeable to look it over very well.
