Over $8,000 in materials!!!!   Free shipping!!!  No tax!!!!  Details below.

The list of items is attached and also below my signature block in the body of this email.  For the items which I haven't listed a price for--I simply got tired of researching them.  All other prices are directly from Aircraft Spruce's website as of today.

Obviously, the big ticket items are the foam, fiberglass, and plans.
I have most of all the Section 1 kits.

All the nuts, bolts, screws, etc are still in their original packaging.

I did start a few bulkheads in Chapter 4, so some materials are used--but that $8,000 total doesn't include all the items I listed which don't have a price next to them.  So you're easily still clearing over $8,000 in materials and tools and saving roughly $1,000 in taxes and shipping, especially HAZMAT charges.

The reason I'm selling?  I need the space back in my garage for a side business as I received news from my primary employer this week that they intend to furlough me due to the drop in market demand from the COVID-19 pandemic.  Selling these materials will help us pay the  mortgage and household bills for a few more months.  We have 3 boys that must have black holes in their stomachs.

I will pack and drive a one-way rental with all materials to anyone who buys it all anywhere in CONUS.  I'd prefer not to part it out.  I will take very good care of all the materials, as I know how important they are.  You can't ask for a better transporter.

Asking $6,000.00 or Best Offer.  I will take a cashier's check, cash from a bank, a Zelle transfer, PayPal, or even a credit card payment.  Buyer must pay half up front before I truck it to your location.

Send me any questions you may have.

I can tell you having "A/W" is a BIG requirement when looking at these planes!!!  Along with a GOOD inspection by someone that knows what to look for (no matter how many hours on the plane!).

Ask me how I know!

Berkut today:  fully priced!   The nose gear mechanism is interesting (pic 3). With a little planning I bet you could substitute a Wilhelmson noselift for the hydro unit.  It would let you seal the NG box a little easier.

Seen on FB.  Poster lives in Cleveland TN.   Couple of things:  The Matco brakes should be mounted so the bleeder is at the bottom.  I suppose the bleeder fitting could be swapped to the other end.  It is a whole lot easier to service things in the armrests if they are made removable.  Also make the seat removable.  On the whole, it looks a little crude

The sparkplug wires are just lying on top of various things that will saw them into pieces.  What does the rest of the engine look like?   The son needs to find an experienced builder to look at it before he takes pictures.

Note the empty weight of 773 lb. That's an INCREDIBLY heavy O-200 VE, particularly since it's got manual nose gear and an ancient (probably original) panel. With 26 gallons of fuel (full fuel) a 181 lb. pilot (no baggage or passenger) will put this plane at the extended MGW of 1110 lb.

This is a single seater for a relatively (given the size of US persons these days) small person...

This EZ on Barnstormers.  I don't trust a seller who lists in miles-per-hour.  🙂   I.E. 174 knots.  He must be a used car dealer.  However, a nice airplane from the shop of Eric Cobb, the Enzo Bugatti of canard-builders.  N86JP   https://registry.faa.gov/AircraftInquiry/Search/NNumberResult?nNumberTxt=86JP         Contact JKillin for more details  [That's a joke for Marc and Voidhawk]

This on B-stormers today :  Pretty fair deal if you have the patience to resell all the props and materials he is offering.  Panel needs updating.  Rebuilding strakes would not be such a hard job: take a Sawzall to the old ones, clean up the overlaps on the fuselage and centerspar and start rebuilding--a nice winter project.  The cowl mold is interesting.  More pics in the ad

I've read several posts about people looking for a Vari/Long/Cozy.  At any point in time, there are usually a few listed on Barnstormers, Facebook, Craigslist, etc.  Aside from Kent's list here and a few other canard forums, there is not an abundant amount of these being advertised.

The reality with our canards is that most were likely built in the 80's or 90's, and the original builder was in his 30's, 40's, or 50's when he started/finished. Today in 2021, many of these owners have passed away or are no longer flying, and their plane is sitting in a hangar or garage.  A good portion of these completed or close-to-completion planes have never been offered for sale.  Some may tossed out for scrap.  Many younger pilots today have no idea what they are.  I flew my VariEze from TN to MN in November, and at each stop, a minimum of 5 people came out asking what I was flying.  They had never seen a canard before.  They were all shocked when I told them it was a 40 year-old plane.

Over at the EAA forum, someone posted an FAA listing of registered experimentals over the last 9 years (2012-2020):

From 2012 to 2020, 104 Long-Ez's, and 192 VariEze's have disappeared.  Some may have been destroyed, but I would guess many are still sitting in a hangar or garage, collecting dust.

When I started my research for a Rutan design in 2019, I used the FAA website and aviationdb.net to find Vari's/Long's that were within a reasonable distance from me.  These sites do not list phone numbers, but do have the mailing address of whoever registered it last.  I sent out several letters by mail to research the non-active models.  I had at least an 80% return of an email or phone call from my list.  In some cases, they no longer had the plane, selling off as parts or having destroyed it.  Some still had the parts and were still planning on some building activity, and some had a complete non-flying plane, sitting in a hangar.  In all cases, I met a person who was once involved in Rutan designs, were still excited about them, and in many cases gave me another contact of someone they knew who may have one or had other contacts.

In today's world, we tend to think we can find everything on the internet.  I was guilty of that concept as I have been working in a technical field for 30+ years.  What I found was that old-fashioned USPS mail was the key to finding information that led me to owning a very nice VariEze for a great price.  It takes time, but I learned more in the process.

As a side note, you never know what you will find at your local airport.  Get to know as many people as you can and ask about other tenants.  I have been at my local airport  for 12 years. It has roughly 90 hangars.  I have never seen a Rutan design on the field.  In recent months, I learned that the hanger directly next to me had a Long-Ez in it up until 2018.  I never saw it, but it was sold and is now located in Missouri.  I learned of several other hangars on the field that once had some sort of Rutan design in it.

The number of "available" canards will be growing each year.  Keep digging and keep these great designs flying!

EDIT: As a side note, it is good to see that the Cozy is holding strong!

Yup,  I think you had a good strategy for finding them.  I know of three near me that are sitting.  One nice long-ez that the builder flew for about 15 hours but it has been sitting for almost five years,  Another older EZ purchased 10 years ago from an estate by a biz-jet pilot.  He never got it put back together as far as I know.   I do not know why people let a $20K+ airplane sit there.  That reminds me that I have watching a Zenith CH650 parked on the ramp at my airport.  It looks pretty good but has not moved in  2-3 years.
