Sales I've seen

BMC,

Was there anything in particular that swayed you away from this particular bird and toward the one that you ended up buying?

Rainey

The one I bought was in better cosmetic condition.  Both were in good mechanical condition as far as I could tell.  The JetGuys gave it a decent review as they did the CI.  His son-on-law had put some recent hours on it, so it was known to be a stable flying VE.  Mine had not flown for 6+ years.

I was able to get mine at the right price which allowed me to put a little into it for upgrades.

A couple of VariEze's on Barnstormers:

https://www.barnstormers.com/classified-1602493-Varieze.html

I sent a message asking for pictures but no response.

https://www.barnstormers.com/classified-1599238-Varieze-Project.html

This one is fairly close to me so I went to have a look a few weeks ago.  Looks to be in decent shape from a construction standpoint.  I couldn't check the main gear stability. Could be a good base, needing engine, panel, electrical, etc.  Registration is N6411Z.

Today's B-stormers.    A good test of the "you guys sell these airplanes too cheap[ly[" theory.  N70HA, O-235, very tidy.  The refurbisher put a lot of effort into it.

https://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/NNum_Results.aspx?nNumberTxt=70HA

SUPER NICE LONGEZE • $75,000 • AVAILABLE FOR SALE • This aircraft is beautiful. I bought the aircraft from the original builder and proceeded to to do a ten year top to bottom nut and bolt refurbishment on it to create a truly modern up to date beautiful machine. By the time it was finished I was not able to get my medical...verys ad but I truly enjoyed working on it. You can now benefit from the hundreds of hours and many thousands of dollars in new equipment. This is a turn key airplane...everything is done to ensure a truly modern amazing flight experience...please look at the photos with the equipment list and descriptions! • Contact Craig Roberts , Owner - located Aurora, OR United States • Telephone: 503 318 3351 • Posted October 12, 2020

Seen on FB today:  A really nice example--beautiful finish and wiring.  Nicer than mine for sure--but it has some things I question.  All the leather and padding is beautiful but it adds weight.  For example the extra stuff around the canopy lock levers (pic 4):  nice but heavy.  Lining in the footwells?  A lot of the wiring looks like large gauge.  The prop with those wide draggy tips is not used these days (pic 5).  Check out a Catto or a Hertzler; thin tips, less drag, more RPM, more HP.   I am surprised that his top baffles fold the wrong way.  IO-320.  You can see why it was a grand champion but the price seems ambitious.  Man, I gotta get out my buffing pad and do some spiff-up.

Seen on the canard-aviator's list today:  Most of the structure done and has an engine.  Looks like it could be finished.  $8K "flexible"  but it has to move.  Offer $3K

Craigslist link: https://salem.craigslist.org/avo/d/salem-rutan-varieze-2-person-push-plane/7208316256.html

I looked this one over, and asked Gil to also have a look. I was hoping it was further along, but my Long is likely to be done sooner so I'm hoping someone on the list will be interested.  The project was started by two gentlemen in 1979.  One of them, the seller Leon, carried on until 1986. He got tired of modifying it and ran out of money, and stuck it in the barn. It was covered, and really is pretty clean.  The property is sold, and the airframe must move by the end of November.  Asking price is flexible.    Structure is complete and painted. Fiberglass work looks decent, finish work could use some massaging.  All metal parts are present and in good shape. Cowls present and in good shape.  Engine is present, O-200 GPU. Gil was able to turn over by hand, but it was not really pickled.  No instrumentation, other than the mentioned airspeed indicator which was purchased by Leon's wife as a gift (her dad was an avionics tech).  Please forgive my lack of specific VariEze knowledge... the wings have the cuffs on (may need to remove and put on fences?), the bellyboard is in place (but could be faired in a bit cleaner), the nose gear is the original slide control (it is in upside-down, will need work), the elevators are the short-chord originals (these need to be replaced with the long-chord?). instrument panel is cut for gauges and radios, but I think that was just based on the plans depiction. No wiring of any sort.  Overall, I think it's worth putting the time in to save this one. Gil thinks there's about 1,000 hours to put in.  The contact is Michael, a friend of the owner; his number is 509-879-9389. Leon is not much for technology, but Michael is very helpful getting things in line if you want to see it.

From the Cozy list yesterday:

I have a Featherlite Main Landing Gear Bow and Nose Strut, untrimmed, in as-shipped condition.  I’m looking to sell them.  I’m located near Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, but am willing to ship them within reason.  I also have Matco brakes and the MCR-100K remote reservoir kit, however, I have not been following design changes or such, so I don’t know that the brakes from back then are still correct, but I can however provide more details if someone is interested.  Finally I also have a whole bunch of glass on the roll (most of a roll of both UNI and BID) and peel ply and other consumables.   I don’t check this address that is subscribed to the list very often, if you are interested, please contact me off-list at craig.kossowski@icloud.com.

Odd that the FAA has changed it's search so it does not generate a URL link to a particular airplane.  You have to jump through hoops like below.  Oh, well, it's like my Mom used to say "If we can't do it one way, we'll do it another"

This Cozy 3 in Barnstormers today:   A "3" was my first homebuilt, purchased from a chap in Mississippi.  Fun airplane but not for big people.  Price sounds a little ambitious but a lot depends on who did the overhaul.   No pics in the ad.  😞

Also this Quickie.   Looks pretty good.  N80771    QUICKIE Q2 • $14,000 • AVAILABLE FOR SALE • Revmaster 2100-d, 65hp. 165.5 hrs. TT airframe and engine, about 10hrs. on new mofoco heads and cyl. Annual completed 7/1/2020. New tires, new elt battery. Dual rudder, dual toe brakes. Dittel radio with intercom, Narco transponder with encoder, standard gauges. No ads-b out. Ready to fly home. The only reason it's for sale is that it was intended for me and my son to fly to places like Oshkosh, expensive burgers, family and friends on occasion, and discovered were too heavy for 65hp.
