Kent Ashton
I remember seeing this one under construction about the time I was building my Cozy IV. N654EZ http://www.aviationdb.com/Aviation/Aircraft/6/N654EZ.shtm Builder built some interesting intakes and I took a pic (#4). He lost his medical and had to sell. It was well built and has had a nice cockpit upgrade since those days. I copied the gray paint and his nose-shape on the EZ I built. 🙂 I figure a good EZ can be had for $40-45K then add $20K in avionics so the price seems ambitious. Jon Matcho
Steve Velovsek built that airplane (who happened to be Wayne Hicks' hangar mate). I recall seeing his airplane just months/weeks away from first flight and being utterly impressed. Dug up these old pictures from 2005. Gorgeous airplane is right! Kent Ashton
This is a little more like it : An older EZ, N3223P, (you can tell by the P-51 scoop) but priced about right. http://www.aviationdb.com/Aviation/Aircraft/3/N3223P.shtm I am not a fan of the silver paint, though. It seems to add about 15 deg to the skin temperature https://www.canardzone.com/forums/topic/31195-its-been-12-years-since-someone-started-a-can-i-paint-it-x-thread/?do=findComment&comment=59015 I suppose the surface temp will stay below the Tg but why heat up a plastic airplane? Kent Ashton
Good catch. For reference, the EZ above is N675JL https://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/NNum_Results.aspx?NNumbertxt=675JL Being sold by the builder's son, it appears. I know of two EZs near me that are languishing. One is almost new, has been sitting nearly four years. The builder is a friend but he didn't even finish Phase I. I talk to him a lot and say "Let's get that baby back in the air" but so far, no go. Another EZ was bought by a biz-jet pilot, I flew him over to the western part of the state to see it. It was a pretty good airplane but non-flying after the builder/owner died, the biz-jet pilot trucked it home 4-5 years ago but has never flown it. Last I heard, he was trying to get someone to put it together and get it flying for him. People! 😞 Quote -KentCozy IV N13AM-750 hrs, Long-EZ-85 hrs and sold
Quinton Oliviero
Hopefully I'll be editing this space with some details soon, but a friend of mine from my time in Quebec is selling his beautiful Cozy III, C-GDSB. He had a few ads up for a while, but mostly in French-language or Canadian/Quebec specific publications. All I can remember off the top of my head is that it's got an O-320, Catto 3 blade with nickel leading edges, dual EFIS/EMS. I'd buy it myself, but I need every spare cent to get my Cozy IV build done, and I'm afraid that my wife will definitely enforce her threatened "Plane to Pony ratio" if I get a third plane! Wow, Jon, someone is actually building from the Open-EZ plans, huh? https://registry.faa.gov/AircraftInquiry/NNum_Results.aspx?NNumbertxt=871CG Wow!!! I figure those that are building Open-EZs register as Long-EZs, which -- based on a recent discussion on the Cozy Builders list -- would make sense for insurance purposes. Regardless, this is quite interesting. The timing is good too as I am halfway into the Open-EZ Revision 6 update. The FAA registration also brings up a few pet peeves of mine: It's 'Long-EZ', not LongEz, LoneEze, Long Eze, etc. Long-EZ. It's VariEze, with the same points to be made. EZ and Eze are pronounced as if you were to pronounce the letters 'E' and 'Z' individually, or "easy" as a shortcut. </rant> Awesome find Kent! Kent Ashton
Here's a tip worth repeating: You can google-search a particular website by using the syntax "site:craigslist.org long-ez" (leave off the quotes). I saw this California EZ project today with that. The workmanship looks very good. Don't let the dark-colored epoxy bother you; Ez-Poxy does that after a while. The centerspar was placed in the wrong orientation for the pic. Comes with lots of do-dads; the price is reasonable, I think. Left hand stick? Kent Ashton
No Reserve! This Texas Cozy project on Ebay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Cozy-Mark-IV-Aircraft-Project/202673159561? Here is his website http://www.ez.org/pages/mattstecher/index.html It looks very nice. The only thing I would question are his fuselage antennae which are oriented for 3/9 o'clock. He probably has $4-$5K in materials, not to mention 300-400 hrs labor. The Lightspeed Plasma III mentioned above did not meet the reserve. High bid $1075. Ebay is good for a quick sale but I think you do better having a little patience on Barnstormers. tfulwider
Saw this one pop up on the Pilots of America forum. A gentleman that has terminal cancer donated his project to an EAA chapter in Georgia. Here's his description. Quote Our EAA Chapter had a Long-EZ donated by a gentleman that has terminal cancer. Our job now is to sell it. I'm looking for some idea of its worth. From what we can glean, it hasn't been flown since 1988 or there about. Not entirely sure as to what engine is on it, but it has not been run either. Engine TT is over 2100 hours. Personally, I don't expect we can get much for it at all, just not sure what range it would be in. Not much to go on but if someone's interested I'm sure I can get the contact info
