Kent Ashton
Do you know of any builders / ware to get parts? I do not need anything, but always looking for contacts. Thanks Kevin I see that David Hanson who built the one above advertises in Barnstormers for mods and repairs. Search for his name or "EZ MODS". There is also an SQ2000 google group but it seems to be inactive. A search in the FAA registry for SQ2000 brought up nine of them. With a little more sleuthing, you can probably figure out where they live. http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/acftref_inquiry.aspx Heck, just drop into Chino for the saturday gettogether and those guys probably know. :-) Quote -KentCozy IV N13AM-750 hrs, Long-EZ-85 hrs and sold
Kent Ashton
Seller relisting N87CZ. Was asking $59,900 in 2015! Special good deal for you G.I., $45K. There are some pics in an earlier post http://www.canardzone.com/forum/topic/21972-sales-ive-seen/?p=52604 Also saw the Davila EZ in post 165 relisted at $27K down from $28.5K http://www.canardzone.com/forum/topic/21972-sales-ive-seen/?p=61358 Edited June 14, 2018 by Kent Ashton Quote -KentCozy IV N13AM-750 hrs, Long-EZ-85 hrs and sold
Kent Ashton
I see that Craig has reduced his Cozy IV project discussed here http://www.canardzone.com/forum/topic/31643-cozy-iv-project-for-sale/?p=59701 to $12K. It was a pretty fair price at $17.5K. See ad on Barnstormers. $40K in materials and 1000+ hours of labor. Craig, I would post a photo every month on the Cozybuilders and Canard-Aviator's lists. I put one on a FB page today for you, pal. I think many people do not know anything but Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. Newbies see an EZ or Cozy and are interested but do not know anything about Barnstorms, Trade-a-plane, or "Kent's Sales I've Seen". :-) Heck, I would put an ad on the Aviation section of Craigslist-Atlanta. That project should sell if you get more eyes on it. How about advertising "trade for a Harley". Geez, how depressing to think that project is going to sell for less than a stupid Harley. It just goes to show the state of aviation these days. Craig
I have been a bit lazy on the marketing. Thanks for the help Kent! I'll post to the email lists again, and "My"list-Atlanta. Kent Ashton
This Long-ez today which appears to be N460LZ. The owner has built another cosmic EZ for scaled (N90EZ) so he probably knows what he's doing. I think I saw it in the A.F. Museum a few years ago. http://stargazer2006.online.fr/aircraft/pages/borealis.htm This one "As seen in Kitplanes" :-) No other pics I could find. https://newsline.kitplanes.com/2015/12/30/tim-binders-rebuilt-long-ez/ http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/NNum_Results.aspx?NNumbertxt=460LZ Quote -KentCozy IV N13AM-750 hrs, Long-EZ-85 hrs and sold
Kent Ashton
This O-320 EZ today. Mystery seller. No EZs registered in Mendocino County, CA, AFAICT so I could not pin down an N-number. I remember 10 years ago when you could put a phone number into Google and all would be revealed. Now you gotta pay. It's not much but I would have to get advertising in my thread before digging that deep. :-) Seems like a reasonable price. Nice 3 blade prop, old 4-into-two exhausts, going to need ADSB and a transponder soon, I expect. A lot depends on what the seller means by "SMOH". Kent Ashton
I see that the SQ2000 in post #198 is marked "sale pending" today. --------------------- This Long-ez today built by the famous Debbie Iwatate. N455EZ with an impressive 2270 airframe hours! I first heard of Debbie's little book of mods (pic) years ago before there was even dial-up internet. People still ask for it but I could not find a source. Good to see these airplanes outliving not only their owners, but their follow-on owners. It'd be interesting to know the EZ which has changed hands the most. I bet some of them have been through five or more owners. Here is the transformation of the Cozy III I used to own that is now with it's third owner. http://www.canardzone.com/forum/topic/18661-kents-long-ez-project/?p=61054 http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/NNum_Results.aspx?NNumbertxt=455EZ Edited June 19, 2018 by Kent Ashton Quote -KentCozy IV N13AM-750 hrs, Long-EZ-85 hrs and sold
Kent Ashton
Craig sez his Picaso-on-the-curb* in post #203 has sold--or at least, sale pending. Way to go! * "Picaso on the curb" - (slang, American) a valuable or rare item casually or inadvertently given away, i.e., as placed on a street curb or beside a Dumpster for passersby to take. Kent Ashton
That looks nice. A good start on an airframe. You offering plans with that? A lot of folks want the plans, too. -------- Saw this Vari on a FB page. Richly priced, I would think. That Russian Mig-green cockpit color has never been my cup of tea either, otherwise looks good. Kent Ashton
Today on the Cozybuilders's list: Essentially a fuselage with engine, prop and materials to finish. Decent price. He probably has at least $35k in it at this point. It cost me about $40K to build my Cozy and that was at turn-of-the-century prices. Factor in 3% inflation over 18 years--$40K becomes $68,000 in today's money! It's a sad state of affairs: money inflating, airplanes and projects deflating. I am selling my Cozy Mk4 project. This includes the following Tub completed through chapter 13. Eureka cut wing foam. Todd's Texas canopy Jigs for construction of center section spar and turtle back. All foam, glass and epoxy to complete plane. Complete firewall back package from a flying Cozy including Lycoming IO-360. Sensenich 2 blade prop. Everything needed to complete this project is included except avionics. But that is the last thing to buy which is why I don't have any.Project is located in Austin, TX. Please email or call me @ 512-294-8966 for more information. Kent Ashton
This new ad today for Cozy N42CZ, serial number 26--an early one! No price I could find but it looks nice. Very clean. See another pic or two on seller's website https://siegels.us/Cozy.html http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/NNum_Results.aspx?NNumbertxt=42CZ And this Cozy III seller hoping for a "SERIOUS" buyer is beginning to get serious about his asking price--$9.5K down from $15K. Still not a "Picasso on the curb" though. :-) http://www.canardzone.com/forum/topic/21972-sales-ive-seen/?p=60860 It is interesting to me that a buyer could have bought Craig's complete Mk-IV (less engine, wiring) for $12.5 or a half built C-III project for $9.5K . That tells me the C-III seller might reasonably expect $4K-5K in this market and even that seems like a stretch. Don't start projects unless you can eat the whole schnitzel. Kent Ashton
Saw this deal on a FB page. The poster has previously posted a lot about his project on CanardAviators; should be easy to find there. I dunno about the 10" stretch. I presume it was to balance his engine but these airplanes are somewhat finely balanced. Anyway, lots of stuff for the price. His website here: https://sites.google.com/site/garagerocket/ Significant to me: "I don't have a pilot's license yet." There is a natural order to things--fall in love, get married, have children. Violate the natural order and bad stuff happens. Voidhawk9
This is where one gets good deals on good hardware. The modified fuse and so on probably isn't worth much unless you find the right buyer - someone looking to do something similar. Bit of a needle in a haystack. The 10" stretch isn't a major problem, provided one realizes that the plans CG limits will not apply, and a new range will need to be calculated and proven. Phase 1 will consequently be a bit higher risk than for a per-plans Long. You are right though - disrupting the natural order of things is takin' a might big risk! Kent Ashton
The 10" stretch isn't a major problem, provided one realizes that the plans CG limits will not apply, and a new range will need to be calculated and proven. I think there is more to it than that. I'm thinking that if the location of the axles isn't correct for the new CG (if the CG changes), the airplane may have more or less weight on the nose and be more easily tipped-back, or slower to rotate on takeoff. Locating and readjusting axle location can be a lot of work. A forward-canard could have more leverage and more easily drive the wing into wing-stall or at the very least the ideal incidence might be different from a standard EZ which is a lot of testing and adjusting. If the canard lift vector is more forward, the aircraft center-of-lift might be more forward even if the CG is balanced to the standard location. I would think that if the distance from the center-of-lift to the CG gets bigger (the aircraft C-of-L is forward of the CG) the airplane might be less responsive in pitch and the canard-size might need be greater or smaller. I might be overestimating the effects but I don't think it's a trivial change. Voidhawk9
Seems to work fine for the stretched Cozies, Longs, and the Berkuts. Not saying its trivial, but it can certainly be done safely. Again, though, it will need to be the right buyer, probably a rare breed for this sort of thing. I'm of the opinion that a non-plans airframe has essentially no value until it has flown and been proven. Kent Ashton
Nice clean Q-200 today. I don't know much about them but I have read that the main gear at the end of the canard is a bit problematic and you will see some built with gear mounted closer to the centerline. Cool little airplane though. Quote -KentCozy IV N13AM-750 hrs, Long-EZ-85 hrs and sold
Kent Ashton
I just shake my head when a seller posts no pictures, gives limited details and then says "no tire kickers". Can you imagine a car dealer with a sign out front saying "no tire kickers"? I shouldn't even post this. Don't ask any questions, just show up with a trailer and cash. ?
