Sales I've seen

Recommended Posts

I just noticed that Craigslist has an "Aviation" section!  Seems to be a great place to buy a GPS-195 with 10 year-old database.  :-)   However, with a little browsing I saw this EZ project (pic) nearby in Charlotte and a prop-struck Lancair for a pretty cheap price

This Long-ez today:  Seller says in an EZ.org post that N72HM is his, bought 90% complete, but I see that N72HM is registered to another owner with a different manufacturer so you sort it out.  :-)

Matt Stecher selling his Varieze and Cozy projects in Texas.  His Cozy build log is here   http://www.ez.org/pages/mattstecher/index.html  Looks pretty good so far and the price seems good.  Less than the cost of materials.  Heck, a MLG strut and Matco brakes and wheels will just about cover the asking price and I would guess around 400 builder-hours to get to this point.  His antennas on the belly are probably not optimum (VOR needs to be oriented perpendicular to the station) but that's minor.

Matt Stecher selling his Varieze and Cozy projects in Texas.

Looks like he stopped building in 2011... ah well, thats too bad.  Gary Hunter inspected some of his work and his comments are on that web page... sounds like good quality work.

I hope he is able to sell both projects.... agree they could be good deals.

The Defiant here  http://www.canardzone.com/forum/topic/21972-sales-ive-seen/?p=60804 reduced to $125K or offer.  This copied from a canard aviator's post:

I would like to sell my Rutan Defiant. It is a great machine, but one which I have not been able to enjoy due to a long string of unfortunate events ending with my youngest daughter’s passing a week ago. Needless to say, I do not feel like flying anymore, so I am looking for serious cash buyers only who are ready to buy. Aircraft is currently at KMMU (Morristown Airport, NJ). Asking price is $125K or best cash offer.

It includes:

- Professionally rebuilt and flight tested by Freeflight Composites (Burrall Sanders) for day VFR.

- Possibly only one built with right rudder/brake pedals

- Built with winglet rudders instead of Rhino rudder

- Both fully certified standard O-360 engines rebuilt by Don George Aircraft (both < 40 hrs) with dual Emags P-114

- Newer Silver Bullet Props (<40 hrs)

- Fully Electric Dual Dynon 10" Skyview Tochscreen with backup batteries, Seattle avionics lifetime maps, GPS, AHRS, ADSB, Auto-pilot, Heated Pitot, Wi-fi, Dual Dynon EMS integrated into PFD (1 engine per monitor), Dual Fuel Monitors. Dynon Radio. PS Engineering Intercom with Canopy open alarm.

- Infinity sidesticks with buttons for radio, Pitch Trim and Autopilot disengage buttons

- Canopy Open warning

- Logbooks rebuilt, including manuals for new equipment

- Recent Annual inspection by an experienced A&P (Mar 2018)

- Recently test flown by one of the most experienced Rutan Defiant Builders/Pilots

Accessories included:

- DHS Spinner - New

- Custom Spinner to Spinner cover

- Custom pump jack dollies and portable winch rig system to maneuver aircraft in/out Hangars, even sideways.

Sincerely,

The Berkut here reduced $10K today to $165K.  Aba-dee-aba-dee-aba, anyone?  [been watching "Auction Kings" on our new Quest channel.  How do I sound?  :-)   ]

Boy, not having an airplane project is leaving me bummed.  I have a peeling rental house to scrape and a BD-5 to do something with.   Neither of those options are very exciting.  I have a couple of Cozy ideas to pursue:  make adjustable louvers for the oil cooler; a panel upgrade.  It is too early to commit to ADSB.  I was thinking this morning I would give the BD-5 to anyone with a genuine interest just to get the space back.  It's probably not pristine-enough to make a nice jet from but the shaft-drive version is a headache that doesn't justify the effort.  Sounds like a candidate for Craiglist's Aviation section.

This Cozy today was asking $50K, now $35K.  N40TD with just 50 hrs on the airframe.  I could not find why it hasn't flown in six years but it looks like a good deal for a could-be-flying-again airplane.  Maybe do a little work and fly it home if the engine is not rusted up too badly, eh?

N6VL, an '85 Varieze on Ebay today at a "come get it" price.  The owner-builder must be getting on in years judging from the pics and the handwriting.  The airplane's been hangared so maybe it'll be free from the dreaded wing-fitting rot.  His narrative is somewhat confusing: 1493 TTAF, engine 1401 SMOH but the engine was replaced with a rebuilt in 1996 so maybe it is only 92 SMOH.  The engine looks nice, anyway.

Selling point: blue shag cockpit lining.   Ummm, snuggie.   :-)

  • 2 weeks later...

This Varieze today.  I see that the seller David Hanson has restored several EZ types.   http://www.ez.org/feature/F0503-1/F0503-1.htm  and   http://www.longezpilot.com/PG10%20Nose%20Extension.htm    Not sure which one this is but the N-number, N440EZ was orginally a 2003 build by Ronald Gray according to the FAA registry.  Very fast-looking!  He certainly does a nice job with the paint although I am not crazy about the heat rejection of dark red paint.

Couple of EZs today:  First one with no pics: N88LE an '86 vintage.

http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/NNum_Results.aspx?NNumbertxt=88LE

Second one is N757T a 2006 mfg.  Owned by Lance Hooley who is now flying his new jet EZ

http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/NNum_Results.aspx?NNumbertxt=757T

Here's one that is more affordable.  Sort of a practice build before the real thing  :-)

Saw these Varieze plans and parts on a FB site.  Seller's email is in the pic.   The Vari appeals to me as a very thrifty, long-range airplane that sips gas but I sat in one once and it was a little small for me.

SQ2000 today.  We don't see these very often.  Nice looking airplane. Former N440DH built by David Hanson, his 3rd build, apparently.

http://registry.faa.gov/AircraftInquiry/NNum_results.aspx?NNumbertxt=440DH

I wonder about the crash-worthiness of this kind of fuselage with big open doors.  It does not seem to be as sturdy as a Rutan tub but what do I know.  Easier to get in and out though.

Good price.  Seller could probably get a lot more if it was flying with registration and log books but those can be resolved.

There are some pics of the build here

Kent I saw your post on the SQ2000. I have one that I have flown 34 hrs in. Flew it across the United States from Florida to California. I am bases in Corona CA (KAJO). Great flying airplane, when you land to get fuel don't think your going to leave anytime soon. When people see the plane they stop by and want to see it. Do you know of any builders / ware to get parts? I do not need anything, but always looking for contacts. Thanks Kevin
