OT here, but why do you think that installing HC pistons is a major change?

Thanks for your input. I thought I remembered something about a significant change in performance being a major change. I will have to go read the nebulous language again. Everyone defines “significant” differently. Maybe I can hold off and wait until I want a new prop?

Walsh Cozy III projects reduced to $5K today on the Cozybuilder's list.  Previously discussed here  https://www.canardzone.com/forums/topic/21972-sales-ive-seen/?do=findComment&comment=61273

A long-EZ builder could probably buy the wings and centerspar.  The C-III wings are the same as an EZ.  I believe the centerspar is also the same, or close but check me on that.  Seller just wants to get his hand out of the jar.    [Old joke: Little boy crying, hand stuck in a jar says, "I don't want the prize, I just want to get my hand out of the jar."]  Yep, I would like to get my hand out of a BD-5 jar.  🙂

I'll save you guys the hassle regarding 44TJ. Enclosed Oil Report.

Lots of metal in the engine; Titanium and Tin which could be the babbet sleeves and  crankshaft, which = Complete Overhaul

The Owner knows his engine has a problem, but is still selling at too high of a price. Will only sell as De-register. Will not remove engine, etc.

Be careful.

Can't see the PDF. Any other info on this one?

I tried to attach the PDF but I am byte-limited for some reason.  Anyway, it comes up OK for me.  This airplane, N44TJ, mentioned back in April '18  here.  No recent  news AFAIK.  https://www.canardzone.com/forums/topic/21972-sales-ive-seen/?do=findComment&comment=61483

Thanks. I'm going to look at it this weekend. It comes highly recommended, but I'll be doing my own assessment.

Also, I was going to buy that 80CZ. I met the seller, agreed on his asking price, and he was going to fly it to me in a couple of days. A couple days later, I contacted him to lock in the meeting point, and he had sold it to someone else. Someone else must have made him a higher offer than his asking price.

Sorry you lost that one.  Let us know what you think of N44TJ but when a seller is demanding de-registration and you know the engine has problems, it better be pretty danged cheap.  I wouldn’t drive very far to see such an airplane unless the seller understands that.  There will be others—lots of old EZ builders are aging-out these days.  Wait for the estate sale!  🙂

Well, I've learned that writing on the internet is easier than writing on a bathroom wall. The previous commenter may be 100% correct with his assessment and claims, or may be completely false and inaccurate. His oil analysis does lend some credibility, so I'll definitely give it a close look. Not buying it immediately, but will give it a good look.

From the Cozybuilders list yesterday.  A tub on the main gear

The build proceeded in order and I have completed the Canards primary construction, but it has not been installed yet.  You can find everything you may need in my online build log at http://www.ez.org/pages/mattstecher/index.html  I am hoping for $3500 and don’t have anything for future chapters other than the canard elevator cores.   You can reach me by email if you want further information.

Today on ebay:  Pretty good price at $7000.  Listed as a Cozy III but it's actually a Mk -IV    https://www.ebay.com/itm/COZY-III-Airplane/254091469553?    Seller says"

Quote
This is an unfinished Cozy airplane that I bought from a man who was presented a completed airplane while this was under construction and he took it. This was constructed very professionally and with the guidance of EAA member support and, of course, any and all PCB's (production change bulletins) from Cozy. I have one hundred percent confidence in the integrity of the project and would love to finish and fly it. However, I had serious cardio vascular surgery and the doctor made it clear that my flying days are over.   Included in the base price of $7,500 is a Cozy 3 with almost all the glass work done. Canard (Rontz with 2 VOR antennas installed),  Fuselage, Hardware such as torque tubes, landing gear hardware, brackets, etc...basically the entire aircraft structure is done with little additional hardware to purchase. The strakes need to be built and few other small glass projects but the "biggies" are done.   Needed to complete, engine, canopy, engine mounting, avionics. interior...  My assessment is that it would require about ten thousand total to complete and result in a fifty thousand dollar airplane... just add "sweat equity" which is a labor of love for people like me

"10K to complete".  That's pretty funny but if you got it for $7K, it would be a danged cheap Mk-IV.  It all looks pretty good.  I don't see any canopy or winglets stacked around but still . . .where were these deals when I wanted to build  😞

There are only two reasons that anyone lists aircraft that are worth $35K - $50K for $75K or $117K. And those are that they're hallucinating, or that they've told their spouse that they're going to sell the plane but don't really want to. Because there is zero chance that either one of those planes (or a few of the COZY's that are for sale) will sell for anywhere near their asking price. This MIGHT be a $45K plane, but I'd have to see it to know.

I met a guy who had a very nice RV-6.  He said he went to Oshkosh, picked out the niceist RV and kept offering more money until the owner agreed to sell it.  So all you need is the niceist Long-ez and a motivated buyer!  🙂

Today on Ebay:  Wing cores in Canada.  Item   132940500989.  I see that Eureka says it is no longer stocking foam.  It appears they may be getting out of the business; I would not surprised given the dismal level of building these days   http://www.eurekacnc.com/Home.htm   Anyway $3000 for cores does not sound that cheap to me and cutting cores is a fun exercise.  I recently saw foam at a nearby insulation company (pics 2,3).  This stuff, I think:  http://www.qualityfoam.com/docs/trymer-2000-xp.pdf   The gent said he would sell it for about $100 a bun vs. $218 at ACS.  I love a gouge like that!cores.png.767cfdb19de2b2b85a4d7810f4d7054b.png
