JTest
G'day I am having some problems getting the hinge pins to insert into the canrd elevators with the NC-3s & NC-3a and center control rod connector attached. I have tried and been able to insert the hinge pins with the center control rod not installed, but then I can't install the control rod due to the insert overlap.... The problem is the hinge pin rods miss the guide holes. I welcome ideas... Thanks in advance.... Jeff
Kent Ashton
It helps if the rod has a very slight curve so you can rotate it to find the next hole. Wax it up good before inserting. If it's hard to go in, spin it in with a low speed drill. If the holes are too tight, slather fine valve-grinding compound on the rod and run that through the elevator holes a bit to loosen them up. Don't cut them off flush until they go in and out fairly easily. Quote -KentCozy IV N13AM-750 hrs, Long-EZ-85 hrs and sold

Limo EZ
Try inserting the pin with the canard right side up. You might try sharpening the point of the pin and chucking the end in a variable speed drill and push i slowly. Joe Berki Limo EZ

Joe Berki Limo EZ I also sharpened the pin, but not symetrically - IOW the "point" is off-set. This, in combination with a very low-speed drill is what worked for me. Here's a hint for getting the little washers in - put little release-tape tabs on the washers so you can hold them in place while your helper guides the pin in. I'm not sure I would recommend the use of a compound that has grit in it, though. Not sure how you'd get the stuff out so as not to cause excess wear on the hinges. For lubrication, I put Marvel Mystery oil on a rag and ran it over the hing pin before inserting it. Quote Phil Kriley Cozy #1460 Chapter 13 - nose Right wing done - working on right winglet. Limo EZ
Super glue is good for holding the washers in place. Joe Berki Limo EZ

Yeah, scotch tape works too. Remember that when you put your nose strut on.

You bad. Now, Marvel Mystery Oil is great, in the shop....and in the BDRM. My bad. I didnt hear the scotch tape/ nose strut one. That is how I held the washers on my pivot. Is that what you are referring to? That noselift assembly is a bugger to get in for me. Quote Self confessed Wingnut. Now think about it...wouldn't you rather LIVE your life, rather than watch someone else's, on Reality T.V.? Get up off that couch!!! =) Progress; Fuselage on all three, with outside and inside nearly complete. 8 inch extended nose. FHC done. Canard finished. ERacer wings done with blended winglets. IO540 starting rebuild. Mounting Spar. Starting strake ribs.

While the canard was upside down with the elevator in place and ready, I draped the two washers over the elevator brackets (plates? L-shaped things) to dangle them in place on each side lined up with the holes.
